What was your first ever title for the C64? Did you have this back in 1982? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1982: tinyurl.com/1982-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I had it included as part of my C64 when I bought it. I always found the concept fascinating but never really knew what to do with it :D They also released a version for the Vic20 as well.
Good to know they had the whole universe running on both Commodores at the time, hehe! I can imagine there were many that found this one pretty educational when they were kids 😇🕹️👌
Ya it's funny eh, as a kid I played 100s of c64 games, thought played them all, and as it turned out, I've only played about half the games covered on this channel.
As a very very young kid at the time, this one truly fascinated me - being able to learn details of the planets in our solar system was great! 1982 was the year of innocence on the Commodore 64 I guess 😇🕹️👌
Theres a whole lot more to come too, hopefully some of these titles you've not seen before will encourage you to fire up the Commodore 64 once more 😇🕹️👌
Ahh cool I just checked that out... 'Redshift 4'! - looks pretty interesting! I still listen to Neil DeGrasse Tyson's Star Talk on RUclips here... mind you, I was a fan of Carl Sagans narration too as a kid, the cosmos 😇🕹️👌
Great little program still, I let me nephew play around with this one years ago... I remember the constant barrage of questions about space that followed, so it definitely still intrigues some youngsters who enjoy anything to do with space 😇🕹️👌
We actually had this at school but never really found it that interesting as it wasn’t a game. As a kid, if it wasn’t a game, I couldn’t see the point 😂
Was pretty boring as a very young kid for me too but it was pretty interesting a few years on when we were looking at the solar system at school. I used to show off that I had the solar system on my computer at home 😁🕹👌
This could be useful for my Commodore 64 game / program collection 😺👍. And if i see it at some game store, website, or flea / thrift markets, i better buy it immediately 😺👍🕹️. The old Commodore 64 cartridges are still legendary and inspiring 😺👍🕹️.
I never had this. I was fascinated by The Haley Project though. Where you could fly to Haley's Comet, and various planets and moons in the solar system. I believe it was supposed to teach you to recognize constellations as part of your navigation, but I was never any good at that. I just used the solar system view to figure out what angle I needed to aim at. I was really impressed by the planets having day/night sides to them, and the sense of scale.
Being on a cartridge is, I suspect, the reason that some elements had to be removed (such as three of the planets), since C64 carts could have a maximum size of 16K. I think there is a tape version of this program which MAY have the missing elements.
This looks pretty interesting. I'm not familiar with this title. I remember a title called "Sky Travel" that I played with as a kid. It's the only astronomy software that I can remember using on the C64.
Ahhh yes! A Window to Our Galaxy!! There were hundreds of educational games for the Commodore 64... all of them need to be covered, over time - probably once all the games are done! 😇🕹️👌
Didn't come across this one back when I was a kid -- but not sure it would have held my interest anyways. But Cheeky have you played Project Space Station? That was a great simulator that'd be a good one to cover, ahead of its time.
You're right, great simulation game... HesWare made a few pretty decent games, I must get to covering some soon. In the meantime, check out Accolades 'Apollo 18'! ruclips.net/video/fBmXGENJmbk/видео.html 😇🕹️👌
i had a similar program on my pc, those solar system explorer tools are real time sinks! same with fractal creators/zoomers... hours and hours of time 'lost'.
Yeah, it was probably the same for all micro computers at the turn of the decade in the 80s... this was the birth of the gamers I suppose, I am so glad I was part of that generation 😇🕹️👌
The game is named "Visible Solar System". Uranus and Neptune are not visible to the naked eye from Earth. (For that matter, neither is Pluto which was considered a planet at that time.) I would assume that's why they weren't included.
Didn't think of that! I was also thinking that, since this is on a cartridge and carts have a max ROM size of 16K, they may had had to make some cuts. Could be a combination of the two. I think there's a tape version of this program that might have additional features. I don't think they ever made a disc version, or at least I could find no mention of one.
Only ever seen this on cartridge here in the UK... even then it's tough to get hold of a decent quality copy nowadays without paying big bucks for it visible solar system

Surprisingly I loved this back in the day. Thanks for the memories, well done son
Glad you enjoyed it - a massive taste of nostalgia when I fired this one up after all these years 😇🕹️👌

Wow, I've never seen this before, I would have loved this in the olden days.

I would have loved this. Had Red Shift on my PC when I got older, this seems like a C64 version with it limitations, but so cool they made it.

Never seen it before, abgefahren for real! 👍😉

This is 1982, Surely you mean where are the last 3 planets? Uranus, Neptune and PLUTO 😁
Haha we all know that Pluto doesn't meet the International Astronimal Unions definition of a full-sized planet 😛😁🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer In 1982 they did!
You make a good point! Haha its there! It's that little tiny speck of dust on the screen 🤣🕹👌
Voyager 2 just flew by Saturn the previous year and it would take 4 more years for Uranus and 7 for Neptune
That's actually brilliant - now it makes much more sense ❤️🕹👌
We actually had this at school but never really found it that interesting as it wasn’t a game. As a kid, if it wasn’t a game, I couldn’t see the point 😂

CCG making the case that there is, in fact, life beyond Uranus. A gentleman and a scholar.
Well, it's about time someone probed this important topic! Hehe glad you enjoyed the video 😇🕹️👌

Still trying to collect them all! I'll get there eventually 😇🕹👌
Nice choice of music! Clever little Elite reference there...
Or 2001: A Space Odyssey
Goes with the program... I tried it without music and it wasn't working 😁🕹👌
@@hiidenlaulaja This is the original inspiration

Yeah I remember seeing that, from Mindscape? I must delve into more of the games from Mindscape as they were all quality releases 😇🕹️👌
Had this for my Vic 20. It was fun.
Ahh nice, the simpler times huh - I really miss those days of the early 80s 😇🕹️👌
"You Have Died of Space-Dysentery."
Interesting looking game.
Haha good old 'Oregon Trail' reference there... I like it 😇🕹️👌
On the upside, out in space no one heard them scream.
Being on a cartridge is, I suspect, the reason that some elements had to be removed (such as three of the planets), since C64 carts could have a maximum size of 16K. I think there is a tape version of this program which MAY have the missing elements.
It's difficult to keep up with the Commodore when it goes into space.
I'll be right back down to earth in tomorrows video 😇🕹️👌
It's like actually being in outer space.
If you put your nose right up to the screen you can almost smell Uranus 😇🕹️👌
This looks pretty interesting. I'm not familiar with this title. I remember a title called "Sky Travel" that I played with as a kid. It's the only astronomy software that I can remember using on the C64.

Yet again another obscure title. 👍🏼
Many more to come my friend 😇🕹👌
Pluto is also missing (this was considered a planet in the 80s)
A very early title when Commodore were still trying to push the C64 for business, home applications and education with games more as a side thing.
Yeah, it was probably the same for all micro computers at the turn of the decade in the 80s... this was the birth of the gamers I suppose, I am so glad I was part of that generation 😇🕹️👌

Thats deep... but maybe true! 😇🕹️👌
I was waiting for MA2 after hearing the soundtrack 😂
The horror movie?! Haha 😇🕹️👌
very cool
Back in the day I remember thinking this was amazing! Haha... how technology has moved on since! 😇🕹️👌
Well my guess is it's called the Visible Solar System and the other 'missing' planets aren't visible to the naked eye.
The sequel 'Invisible Solar System' was ok... but you had to play it with the CRT turned off 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Or it was just a black hole...
I never knew uranus was so big😂. My apologies 😋
So big it wouldn't fit onto a 16kb cartridge! hehe 😇🕹️👌
Pluto will always be a planet to me
I was born there 🤣🕹👌
We didn't have close up photos of Uranus until 1986 and Neptune in 1989 so maybe that's why they were left out.

No, I didn't fall asleep.... lol.
Yayyy hehe... I think I drifted off into space making the video! 😇🕹️👌
