I have to say that I love ‘A Late Delivery from Avalon’. It’s very ridiculous and moving at the same time. It was wonderful to see Michael York, who was fantastic, and the interplay with “Sir” G’Kar was a real pleasure to watch.
"Ivanova! Did you tell him that you'd throw him out an airlock??!!" "Yes. I did..." "I'm shocked. Shocked and appalled. You know how short we are on supplies--especially clothing! What she meant to say was STRIPPED NAKED AND THEN THROWN OUT AN AIRLOCK! I apologize for any confusion this may have caused...!" roflmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ivanova was the main reason to watch B5 if you ask me. That's why Marcus's sacrifice was so powerful. Because you had Susan for all this time and a character such as Marcus comes along and youre like "man, I like this guy too!"
"Comes an Inquisitor" was one of the only Babylon 5 episodes I caught during it's original run. I had no idea what was going on, but Mr. Sebastian was so excellent I couldn't stop watching. It stuck with me.
One of my favorite episodes is "A View From the Gallery." It had all the elements of the normal B5 episodes and then adds the view point of the normal guys just trying to make a life. I found it to be just different enough to remember and it was a great way to remind the viewers that Babylon 5 isn't just some military post or political meeting place, it is home to a multitude of everyday people--it is a city in space.
I watched this in the original run on tv in the UK. The wait between seasons was always bad, but when Babylon 5 returned it was a moment of joy and excitement. God I miss that feeling.
In case nobody mentioned it yet: The actress who played Anna Sheridan is the actual wife of Bruce Boxleitner who played John Sheridan. The wedding picture they used in the show was their actual real-life wedding picture. Just adds another layer of delicious irony to their scenes together. It's fruther enhanced if you've red the Technomage trilogy of books since you get a look inside the being that once was Anna Sheridan.
Even though... As well as it turned out, I would have LOVED to see Catherine get lost and later return from Z'ha'dum - and also wait until the friggin. end. of. the. show. to see Sinclair go back 1.000 years... *sigh* Oh, well. ;)
it's feels pretty weird taking pleasure in Reefa / Rifa's gruesome demise to the juxtaposition gospel celebration, as a musical accompaniment though nothing has ever been more fitting.
I'm a Christian myself, and I happened to be watching that episode with some Christian friends (we liked it because it was the only show at the time that treated religion in a mature manner) and THAT scene had us hooting and punching the air. We also liked the black Southern Baptist preacher a lot, even though none of us were Baptists.
As one of those who watched these episodes when they aired, I appreciate your empathy with us about that last one. It was a tough time to wait for the season premiere. So many good episodes. So glad you could enjoy them.
Z'hadum is a classic. I watched it live on channel 4 when I was about 15 I think it must have been. I was in shock! Glad someone else likes and now for a word and illusion of truth, I have seen some negative feedback on these but again I really liked them. Perfect description by yourself as to why they work. This show really did turn my world upside down on what good TV sci fi could be. For my money it's a show thats still not been beaten.
You can never go wrong with the Narn bat squad episode. One of my favorite parts of B5 in comparison to a lot of other scifi is its examination of religion. The Minbari being invited to a Baptist service on the station, while Brother Theo argues with the pastor over making a joyous noise unto God, and the use of the various human religious leaders as a passive form of resistance against Clark are great themes. The same goes for the Markab in early season 2 who seal themselves during a plague to see if they will die as a commandment from their deities. Or the argument over scientific treatment vs religious rights in season 1, with the Alien kid who has a growth that will kill him if not removed, and the parent's struggle vs the doctor's hippocratic oath not to interfere. Another favorite of mine is a View from the Gallery from Season 5, where the repair and maintenance crew watch as the major characters respond to an attack from species 2558, helping Delenn to stay on the station and fight against alien boarders.
@@-JustHuman- That's actually a pretty good comparison: Both wish to be well liked, both consider themselves patriots, both were initially viewed as foolish clowns and (at least potentially for Trump, history will decide) both were the best outcome from an awful situation. (I think in the expanded fluff Vir talks abotu how even when he became a tyrant controlled by the drakh Londo still tried to do what was best for the Centauri
Due to the weirdness of tv schedules, we had to wait a YEAR AND A HALF for season 4 to drop in Australia. And we were watching the tv guide every week because it was broadcast at midnight and never advertised. The resolution was TOTALLY worth it though.
B5 is the best sci fi ever for me. The great acting and emotion from everyone, especially Londo and G'kar. The costumes and makeup were top notch, the space battles were epic, and of course one of the best stories ever told! Its hard to pick a favorite episode, they are all so good. The Geometry of Shadows was pretty good though, I do always laugh at the purple and green drazi fight.
Two additional episodes you should look at: The Coming of Shadows: Outbreak of the Narn Centauri war and the death of Emperor Turhan. In the Shadow of Zha'dum: Morden's backstory is revealed and Sheridan is told the truth about the Shadows.
The best part of the Z'ha'dum episode, imho, is G'Kar's monologue/voice-over at the end. "There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain."
To my mind, though there may be better looking, and in some cases better acted SCI-FI series, none can beat Babylon 5 as the best SCI-FI story yet told. There was so much thought put into the series, things which seem a throw away story line in one episode, 3 years later are a pivotal plot point. It's this level of story telling which I think many (and I hold the newer Star trek series accountable here) programs lack so much of.
People say this about the acting and often says DS9 was better produced acted etc. I'm rewatching Deep Space 9 for the first time since it came out and the acting is terrible! Far worse than B5, but again, DS9 stories are enjoyable. I think B5ers beat ourselves up to much when comparing to the goliath ST franchise.
I found the acting in *Babylon 5* to be outstanding. Particularly Jerry Doyle as Garibaldi. . .. primarily since he was previously in finance before diving into acting. His acting was so natural. What I felt *was* atrocious were the _extras_ and background characters. When they had a line, it was dreadful. The regulars were always spot-on, IMHO. While I noted Jerry Doyle because of his ease with the character, I was endlessly impressed with Peter Jurasik as Londo and Andreas Katsulas as G'Kar. Just phenomenal. I could watch them -read- argue a phone book.
@@CaesiusX Don't get me wrong, most of the core cast, Peter and Andreas in particular are just awesome. Any episode with them in is just a delight. It's the new character of the week actors which could be a bit rubber at times, and many shows have this.
@@Hokum_Paints I had thought as much. I didn't mean to sound as though I was arguing the point, I just wanted to note the distinction. Some were outright _cringe-worthy._ I am thinking back to _Shadow Dancing_ from Season 3. . . Dr. Franklin was on walkabout in Down Below and he interacts with a little girl when her ball bounces near where he is sitting. The actors playing the parents just cause me to facepalm every time. __ Given the legendary efficiency of the production, I am not surprised. The directors may have been forced to use their best take, regardless of how bad it was. In fact, in the same episode they reused shots of Ivanova and Marcus talking on the bridge of the White Star with quick cutaways only with the dialog removed and only the battle music playing while they were fighting the Shadows. Ugh. If you're going to do that, at least you scenes from a different episode, not ones we just saw 10 minutes prior.
Great work! Thank you. I wonder if you would be interested in doing "Best Episode for a Character" There are some amazing character episodes for characters that get lost because of their A or B plot lines. Day of the Dead for Lockley for example.
I remember watching Z'hadum when it first aired. Due to the weird way the US networks screened the series, we in the UK actually got to see it first anywhere in the world. This was in an era where we were always behind, so it was quite a coup.
We also had to wait 2 years for the resolution of Babylon 4 plot line. But the cliffhanger of season 3 was pretty brutal to endure, but on the other hand also a good training for the entire season 4 as each and every episode left me hanging for another week to pass to see how the story went on. I have never been graped by a show that much where I could not imagine having to wait for excruciating 167 more hours to see the continuation of the show because it was so gripping .... in that the cliffhanger of season 3 was a very good preparation. Also, what makes the Inquisitor episode so profound is the morale with which Delenn finally proves her worth. Most shows that go deep into this meta fail to come up with a satisfying solution to the plot - yet B5 on this occassion delivers one of the best moral teaching. Though I would consider "Intersections in real time" just as good as an episode.
@@RowanJColeman The special effects parts are lower quality (read resolution) than the rest of the show, and I'm not sure if there is original footage which would be mixed with higher quality re rendered special effects.
Marián Čuprík the original sfx footage wasn't in letterbox format, whereas the live action stuff was shot in letterbox, but broadcast in the old tv ratio. Thus, when they run the fx shots, they have to physically expand them to fit the new space on the screen in the dvd versions. As a result, the fx on the dvds are a little worse than they were when the show was actually on tv.
You should do a list of best Babylon 5 episodes by character, e.g. Z'ha'dum for Sheridan, War without end for Sinclair, Objects at rest for Lennier, etc. Just suggestions👍
As much as I agree and love this suggestion, you must be joking about Objects At Rest for Lennier. That episode and honestly season 5 in general completely butchered his character.
@@generalspinobi1442 while I see where you're coming from, I feel as hard as it was to watch, it was the only possible ending for his character arc over the series, and is very effective at delivering that sense of betrayal and tragedy.
Kim Zimmer who played the news corespondent was already known for Reva Shayne on Guiding Light. She has won four Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for the role in Guiding Light, i watched that soap opra with my mom from grade school to high school so seeing her on B5 was a real treat !
Actually, Babylon 5 had a very strange release schedule. I looked it up on the Lurkers Guide and Z’ha’dum was aired on October 28, 1996 and The Hour of the Wolf (first episode of season four) was aired on November 4, 1996. The same thing happened with season one finale Chrysalis where it aired one week and was a cliff hanger and then the first episode of season 2 (Points of Departure) aired a week later. I originally watched the series on DVD as it was released. So for me, I had to wait several months to find out what happened next after each season, the hardest wait being between seasons 3 and 4. It felt like a year.
I can't find a bad episode from season 2, 3, and 4. I wish the guy that played Sabastion should have gotten an award. He was amazing. The lighting the sound of the click click of the Cain. Even though Strazinki is an NPC he made the best show that will ever be made.
@@RowanJColeman his mannerisms, phrasing and delivery as Lorien was also brilliant acting. He was good in all his smaller parts - such as G'dan as well.
Rowan. Nice selection of episodes you chose here. Some more notable for your future viewings. # Passing Through Gethsemane. # Grey 17 is missing. # Sleeping in light. I have the entire seasons/films & extra shows not shown on tv in my DVD collection. I hope you approve of my selection of episodes. They don't make shows like this anymore. Babylon 5, rocks.
If possible I'd recommend putting links in your description to previous videos. I want to watch the previous top 10 episode and I now have to go find it on your channel. Most people are lazy and won't go looking for a video but this is Babylon 5 and I need to watch more. I'm sure I've already seen your previous video but again, it is Babylon 5!
In the U.S., we didn't have to wait for months after "Z'ha'Dum". PTEN (the network that aired B5 first run episodes from seasons 1-4) had a crazy way of airing them. They always held back 4 episodes from the end of the previous season and showed them for the first time in the weeks leading up to the next season starting (Except for season 1 when they only held back "Chrysalis"). So first time I saw "Z'Ha'Dum" one week later I saw "The Hour of the Wolf"... AND IT WAS STILL TOO LONG TO WAIT!!!
FYI Neil Gaiman did write for the show--officially day of the dead--but he was friends with the writers from the start--so there is a link between him and the show
Interestingly enough, we only had to wait 1 week after Z'ha'dum (Season 3 finale) to see the next episode. I remember because I was obsessively recording every episode onto VHS (editing out the commercials in real time). They had a weird schedule for the seasons. I just confirmed this on IMDB. I do, however, remember waiting a long time after War Without End Part 2 before the rest of Season 3 finished up, and later, waiting after the Sheridan interrogation episode Intersections in Real Time before getting to see the rest of the mission to take back earth. This was probably the hardest wait, as Sheridan is at such a low point having just been betrayed by Garibaldi and is now being tortured. Man those were magical times watching the story unfold. Great video! Desperately wish they would release a DVD or Blu-ray version of the original 4:3 aspect ratio without all of the special effect blur and awkward cropping. It's on Vudu but I want a hard copy.
If you go to “Z’ ha’ Dum” you will die. In Valen’s name always a great show, and you are right for us who had to wait for the next season, it took forever. The same way when the “Best of Both Worlds” happened.
Severed Dreams is #2 behind Z'ha'Dum for me. Watch the editing and try to find one second to cut anywhere. You can't. Perfect storytelling. Fantastic ramping of tension and excitement.
I was 12/13 when Z'ha'dum came out. We used to watch it on Channel 4 as a family and it was like torture waiting for the year to pass to find out what had happened to Sheridan. As much as I liked Space Cadets before it, I wanted to get it over and done with to see the first episode of series 4.
Season 2’s “Confessions and Lamentations” always hit me, I feel like it’s one of the most underrated episodes, mostly because it doesn’t follow the main story, it’s kinda one-offish, but nonetheless, it shows that paranoia, fear, and one’s beliefs can utterly destroy you, and your civilization.
Absolutely agreed. I think it's the one episode I'd show to someone to get them a taste of B5 - doesn't spoil much but shows the spirit (i.e. this is not a place where things work out for the best) really well. I'm new to B5 and watched this episode in June of 2020. Saying it hit home would be an understatement.
Great list. I would have also included Messages from Earth, Point of No Return, and Severed Dreams as one episode. Let’s not forget the EPIC space battle and Delenn’s threat.
I think "The Illusion of Truth" is a bad episode, I don't think they could have convinced Sheridan that President Clark would allow any journalist out to Babylon 5 that he couldn't absolutely guarantee to come back with the right kind of story.
My 5 more Great Episodes from Babylon 5 are Number 05: A View From The Gallery Number 04: And Now For A Word Number 03: Shadow Dancing Number 02: Comes The Inquisitor Number 01: Signs And Portents
When one considers that Star Trek stole Babylon 5 to make DS9... it just shows how good B5 really was. We actually got two Babylon 5 tv series, it was that good.
been a dedicated b5 fan i still have to disagree.. it is well established that rodenbery wrote the main plot line for ds9 in tendom with tng. the studios gave the show a green line though only after they saw the impact of tng. so the jurey is out on who came up with the concept 1st.. id like to think that they both did unknowing of each other becouse while the base idea is similar (space station in space as a focal point for galactic events) the story and flow is completely different. between ds9 and b5 .. b5 wins hands down.
@@m.g.1371 I am sorry, my friend, but you are misinformed. Paramount settled with JMS on the matter out of court. It is a fact that they stole the idea for DS9 from B5. A simple goole search with result in the information you need to be aware of the facts. For example, Rick Berman is quoted as saying that he never discussed the ideas for DS9 with Roddenberry, for Roddenberry was near death at the time.
@@jnwestray78 to shed further light on this, the actors of DS9 and even Rick Berman were unaware of the B5 situation when DS9 initially aired. The folks over at Paramount were actually the ones responsible for rejecting JMS' idea for B5 and making off with what they could, guiding DS9 into B5-ripoff territory. And yes initially DS9 did start out as a B5 ripoff. Eventually though, it found it's style and became something different (still held back by an established setting but making full use of the existing lore). Even JMS said that he didn't believe DS9 ripped off B5 later in it's lifespan. Heck, even the original idea for the show was much different than what deep space nine became (the original idea for B5 was to involve strictly Sinclair in a 5 season long arc that ends with him on the run from both Clark and the Shadows and being forced to go into the future and allow his son to carry on his work in a second show).
Great list. But you left off _Grey 17 Is Missing._ ─I'm kidding!😅 Actually, half of that episode is fine (although, given the lighting during the Marcus/Neroon battle, I think they could have [and should have] used some really excellent stunt fighters instead). That aside, I've always wanted to do a private edit of that episode. Where we see Garibaldi go down and investigate the missing worker. He gets shot by the dart, and then we cut out everything else involving him until the very end when he comes in and Sheridan asks where he's been. Then Goingbaldi. . . er, Garibaldi starts to tell us the story... I think even the ending, where he starts to tell us the story, would have been better if we hadn't seen any of that mess. I really enjoy your *Babylon 5* videos. Glad to see *B5* getting some love. It saddens me that we are also a whole generation removed from _Farscape_ too.
Something I've wondered about "The Illusion of Truth": it might be that the reporter wasn't double-crossing Sheridan, but honestly did what he could to portray the station's side of the story, and President Clark's censorship was so severe that the newscast produced was genuinely the best he could manage. It was possible for an observant viewer to tell the interview had been doctored.
"and now for a word" is the most important episode for me because I use it to introduce new people to b5 as an example of it's story telling cleverness, usual heighten tensions and "realism" of governments and politics both for earth and the aliens. Everyone wants to watch more... Try it it on those who have never watched b5 or think it is a ST ripoff.
Z'hadum WAS one hell of a season finale, but the final frames did allude to an expectation of what could come. But, waiting week by week and year by year for episodes was part of the excitement and anticipation, and needless to say, a good interval to discuss just what had transpired (after re-watching the VHS copy you'd made, just to make sure you hadn't missed anything).
I was a first run fan, if you think the wait for the pay off of the za'ha'dum was bad how about the 3 year wait for the Babylon squares / War w/o end pay off.
I remember being very annoyed after having watched Babylon squared during its original run. I kept thinking what shoddy writing, they left so many unanswered questions and dangling plot threads..... Then after seeing War Without End I was convinced Straczynski was a genius
the peak of good series writing, best sci fi show i ever watched, just behind it for me was the ever over looked space above and beyond and in 3rd space 1999 only because it was the starter for me at 7 years old. Why cant they write good stuff like this anymore.
The illusion of Truth is an episode of TV that I put in a very specific category. I call it the "Jurassic Bark" category, named for thee Futurama episode. This category includes episodes that are so good, but because how they make you uncomfortable or sad. But that's part of the appeal in a way. The end scene of Jurassic Bark where Seymour is sitting and waiting for Fry gets me every single time. The same goes for the broadcast of the propaganda piece on ISN. It is incredibly unnerving how well JMS captured the rise of fascism in B5. So much seems prophetic (It's not though), when you consider the state of current global affairs.
One more comment... Sci-Fi TV shows seemed to have a thing for Jack The Ripper in stories. Babylon 5 did it, Star Trek (TOS) did it, Twilight Zone did it, I remember a very short lived series based on the movie Timecop, but still in their limited run they managed to have a Jack The Ripper episode.
my favorite bit is Vir seeing Mr Morden for the last time. But I did like the episode that followed the 2 maintenance workers, also seeing G'Kar as a bodyguard XD
Quite simply .. other sci fi shows may think they are better.. but Babylon 5 was the best ensemble piece, the grand story, told episodically, the writing, the actors.. it's just epic.. okay the CGI now looks ropey but back in the day it was groundbreaking.. seminal show
B5 Is terribly underrated and as I grew up, WATCHING each episode come out, And sometimes watching on VHS Copys we made, I Loved the complexity of it, and how characters grew, G'kar, Is, and will always be my favourite, Next to Londo, Whom I saw Peter Jurasik at Toronto trek one of the final years the con was at the Regel constellation hotel, In FULL costume of the of Londo Mallory, The show gave us culture of Arranged marriage, and how Cats would peck at you with their powerful beaks! I can't choose what I love the best about it, The Characters where brilliant, I think we can say we all Hated and Loved Bester the Psy cop, He was so well Done. I am more of a fan of the show than Star Trek, and more of fan than Star wars, We saw plot lines than ran of into books, and plot lines than ran until the very end. G'kar and Londo Killing each other will always be the best symbol of the love hate relation ship they had, and that Damn Eye! Let the honeymooners have some privacy in their room Please!
The thing about a show as heavily serialized as B5 is that its kinda hard isolate individual good episodes because it just felt one big story with chapters. Even DS9 at its most serialized is easier to pick out individual good episodes.
I'm going to sound very selfish now by demanding MORE!!!!! great job so far but as we both know there are soooo many more amazing episodes. I look forward to a possible third "5 Great B5 episodes" in the future.
Never say that ever! Remove your comment burn it and pray that never have thoughts like that again. Remakes suck. Hollywood sucks. A remake would have an all girls cast.

Reboots ruin shows and fans. Look at star trek. Enterprise is garbage universe wise, but was okay as a series on its own. It doesn't fit cannon at all.
I remember when B5 premiered on UPN (rember that?) I was quite skeptical, thinking it would just be a rip-off of Star Trek. I had picked up one of the genre magazines a few days before the premier, and looked through the articles on B5. As I read through it I couldn't stop snorting in disgust. Another rip off, no originality I thought. All been done before I thought. Waste of time, I thought. Then I saw the first episode. What the hell? The story line didn't neatly rap up. What the hell is "There's a hole in your mind." stuff? I'm confused. Then there is the lead character Jeffery Sinclair. He sure as hell wasn't a James T. Kirk. He quoted poetry for God's sake! After the first episode, I started to take notes! For a TV show? Wow. Totally blown away. JMS is a brilliant man. I wish Warner Brothers would reboot the series *Sigh*. I never understood the animosity Warner Brothers had for B5. So sad!
One of my favorite episodes was, is and will always be (sorry for the spock quote) sheridans inquisition after he was captured with help of Michael Garibaldi. "I always win when i say, *NO* !"
Good stuff, thanks for revisiting B5, great show. I always disliked Zahadum though, the episode was great but the end? Always hate it when the super advanced, super intelligent species do something dumb. "Hey Bob that half Vorlon ship he left in orbit should we scan it or keep an eye on it?" "No Charlie I'm sure it's not loaded with incredibly destructive bombs or anything".
I agree with a lot of your opinions on B5 and the various Star Treks, but I have to say, the Jack the Ripper episode, while wonderfully acted and directed and written, it was lame to have it be the actual Jack the Ripper. It just never sat well with me. Not a knock on the episode, only that one aspect, I felt it was sorta cheesy and not as brilliant as JMS usually is/was/can be..
Part of the worse build up of the zahadum finale is that Delen told him not to go or bad things will happen in an earlier episode where he was time traveling. And then he goes.
But Sheridan was hit by the vision of Centauri Prime and reasoned that he may have listened to Delenn and not gone. So he was in a catch 22 on that one.
Why would she say “don’t go” if he hadn’t gone? One thing B5 handled remarkably well IMHO was time travel and avoidance of paradoxes. The warning itself means he will/did/must go. It is history already written before Anna ever shows up.
Nice list, thank you. Personally I never like "And now for a Word". It's probably my least favorite episode of the show. Which is actually my favorite televison series. It probably didn't help that I really dislike that reporter-character for some reason. Totally agree on the rest of the list though. Keep it up.
I know it is hard but have you considered a Worst Episodes of B5. I've seen your worst episodes of Enterprise. It's easy to pick apart a series that is bad or we just don't like. It's a hole nother tasks to honestly look at a series that was good and we loved and find it's flaws.
If you go to Z'ha'dum, you will die. Waiting a year to find out what happened to Sheridan was murder. So maybe JMS was talking to the audience too. I really wish Warner Bros would look at rebooting B5, with JMS and BSG quality production, or even just put a remastered B5 on Bluray... Oh well!! 😔
I have to say that I love ‘A Late Delivery from Avalon’. It’s very ridiculous and moving at the same time. It was wonderful to see Michael York, who was fantastic, and the interplay with “Sir” G’Kar was a real pleasure to watch.

Theo was an underrated character who should have been in more than just one season
Babylon 5 was a rundown on what is happening nowadays, that is what is so perfect about it.
@@MKUltra_Baby Well more Lando in a way, he is seeking past glory, has weird hair and make some questionable deals.
lol funny comparison.
I'm okay with B5ing all the time.
Z'ha'dum is the only TV cliffhanger that I ever lost sleep over, and yes, I watched it during its original run.
Two additional episodes you should look at:
The Coming of Shadows: Outbreak of the Narn Centauri war and the death of Emperor Turhan.
In the Shadow of Zha'dum: Morden's backstory is revealed and Sheridan is told the truth about the Shadows.
Don't forget Vir's dialogue with Morden in the latter episode
Turhan asking Kosh. How will all this end?
In fire...
I think Star Trek Discovery is great :)
Given the legendary efficiency of the production, I am not surprised.
Good choices. I'd have added "Confessions And Lamentations" - the episode where the entire Markab species died. I tear up every time I re-watch this.
Great work!
The Illusion of Truth was the first episode that came to mind making my top 5 episode. Maybe not #1, but def top 5
I wish there was a way to get a 4K version of this great 90ties sci-fi show I was watching as a kid
Marián Čuprík it needs remaking in the modern era. drop all the filler episodes and give it the full BSG treatment.
Babylon 5 is sorely lacking a remastered edition.
@@RowanJColeman The special effects parts are lower quality (read resolution) than the rest of the show, and I'm not sure if there is original footage which would be mixed with higher quality re rendered special effects.
They can get the film rolls into 4K (although 4:3 aspect ratio) but the special effects have to be remade/reconstructed :/
The Rock Cried out is an awesome episode. Definitely one of the best
"What are you waiting for!?" "This" ...yeah, I punched the air when it became obvious just how hard Londo was about to f*** Reifa
I wonder which might be the best G'Kar episode ... because there are so many to chose from.
God this show really does deserve a remake! One of my favorites.
Believe me, I noticed and also wondered how you could’ve left out Zhadum on your other B5 top10 list!
I was genuinely shocked to learn he wasn't an English actor. He had the gravitas of some Shakespearean stage actor.
@@RowanJColeman his mannerisms, phrasing and delivery as Lorien was also brilliant acting. He was good in all his smaller parts - such as G'dan as well.
Then he blows it out the water with Lorien!
Sleeping in light was in the original top ten!
I loved watching this show as a kid back when it first aired and oh man that year of waiting was so hard
Shadow Dancing is very cool as the first engaement between the forces of the light and the dark
I remember that wait between seasons after Z'ha'dum was torture.
I am one of those original viewers, and yes the wait was agony.
Apologies, I completely forgot to sort out the end screen. I've put links up to 2 previous Babylon 5 vids now. Thanks for the reminder.
Refa is the Dolores Umbridge of Babylon 5, and got precisely the ending he deserved.
What about Severed Dreams? The "If you value your lives, be somewhere else" threat of Delenn is the highlight of season 3...
I just watched that. Excellent episode.
Severed Dreams is #2 behind Z'ha'Dum for me. Watch the editing and try to find one second to cut anywhere. You can't. Perfect storytelling. Fantastic ramping of tension and excitement.
Previous top five list. Check it out.
The Rock Cried, what a song at the end as well. The symbolism. What another great episode.
My 5 more Great Episodes from Babylon 5 are
Number 05: A View From The Gallery
Number 04: And Now For A Word
Number 03: Shadow Dancing
Number 02: Comes The Inquisitor
Number 01: Signs And Portents
True,I love both equally!
I really don't think star trek stole the idea of Babylon 5 at all
ISN under Clarke is B5 version of Modern day CNN.
Nice prediction of the future IRL "news" :)
Absolute best science fiction show of all time.
Sleeping in the light.
Great list. But you left off _Grey 17 Is Missing._ ─I'm kidding!😅
Actually, half of that episode is fine (although, given the lighting during the Marcus/Neroon battle, I think they could have [and should have] used some really excellent stunt fighters instead).
Not sure who the better movie villain guest star on B5 was, Chucky or Freddy?
@@donaldpaluga 😅 LOL!
Babylon 5 was the greatest science fiction TV series yet made.
Thaaaaaaaaank you VERY much.
the peak of good series writing, best sci fi show i ever watched, just behind it for me was the ever over looked space above and beyond and in 3rd space 1999 only because it was the starter for me at 7 years old. Why cant they write good stuff like this anymore.
It's currently showing on digital TV, 7 days a week. It's a great show and I just watched Severed Dreams which had a rather thrilling fight.
Love it . Thanks for posting this👌
my favorite bit is Vir seeing Mr Morden for the last time. But I did like the episode that followed the 2 maintenance workers, also seeing G'Kar as a bodyguard XD
Who else still watches the show? I do
Nice, but STILL no mention of And the Sky Full of Stars? Still, good list.
Quite simply .. other sci fi shows may think they are better.. but Babylon 5 was the best ensemble piece, the grand story, told episodically, the writing, the actors.. it's just epic.. okay the CGI now looks ropey but back in the day it was groundbreaking.. seminal show
It was absolutely NOT easy to wait for not only the next episode but the next season.
It was a hard damn year...
Passing through gethsemane, Hour of the wolf.
Nice List!
You got it right
The thing about a show as heavily serialized as B5 is that its kinda hard isolate individual good episodes because it just felt one big story with chapters. Even DS9 at its most serialized is easier to pick out individual good episodes.
I'm going to sound very selfish now by demanding MORE!!!!! great job so far but as we both know there are soooo many more amazing episodes. I look forward to a possible third "5 Great B5 episodes" in the future.
Wish we could get a re-boot of this show, it was the best ever.
Never say that ever! Remove your comment burn it and pray that never have thoughts like that again.

Look at star trek. Enterprise is garbage universe wise, but was okay as a series on its own. It doesn't fit cannon at all.
@@nicoj84 I agree with Crusade, as the AOL Time Warner bean counters made it DOA before it even aired
So sad!
"And Delenn, I heard what you said when I left..."
One of my favorite episodes was, is and will always be (sorry for the spock quote) sheridans inquisition after he was captured with help of Michael Garibaldi.
"I always win when i say, *NO* !"
I was one of those who had to wait for new episodes around 1998
I remember watching the death of Sheridan on that episode on TV.
“Za”ha doom. one of the best in the series
What are your thoughts on whether bester ever fiqured out ivonava was a latent telepath
Good list
The picture quality of your clips are amazing. Where you finding this footage.
Sarin Highwind And kosh said "if you go to zahadum you will die"
ruclips.net/video/jdoZvo8j6tc/видео.html
But Sheridan was hit by the vision of Centauri Prime and reasoned that he may have listened to Delenn and not gone. So he was in a catch 22 on that one.
He was a bit stuck.
Why would she say “don’t go” if he hadn’t gone? One thing B5 handled remarkably well IMHO was time travel and avoidance of paradoxes.
The warning itself means he will/did/must go. It is history already written before Anna ever shows up.
The background music...is it from Skyrim?
No
Nice list, thank you. Personally I never like "And now for a Word". It's probably my least favorite episode of the show. Which is actually my favorite televison series. It probably didn't help that I really dislike that reporter-character for some reason.
Totally agree on the rest of the list though. Keep it up.
what music are you using in the background of this video?
Oh well!! 😔
