The first SNSD member who got my attention was Tiffany, not from any MVs but from Sister's Slam Dunk ( the first Korean reality/variety show i ever watched)---I thought she was a pretty, but 'ditzy' celebrity-of-the month, with just a couple of hit songs to her credit, included mostly for her simple charm! By the 4th episode I realized there was more to her than that...and with minimal googling, that's how I found out about SNSD. But from that, I went straight to 'Girls Go To School' ( because I like to start from the beginning of a subject of interest) and learned about the members individually during their debut preparations. I have no "bias"---they are all, talented, hard-working, very funny and good people.

The bright vocal is what they forced her to do. Did you watch her appearance on ON & OFF? She revealed that she wants to sing but was told by one of their producer or coach that her natural voice is boring and therefore she was forced to use the aegyo voice. She classified herself as the MSG to her group someone who had to be tailored to match them. This was something I was saying for a longtime regarding Kpop forcing talented people to downplay themselves to balance out their group. It was so sad to hear her saying this and I thank God for BoA who encouraged her. BoA told her what us Sunshiners have been saying for the longest that her natural voice is beautiful and the best version of herself.

I've seen many line distribution videos where Sunny lines were given to the other vocalists. I always try to comment & correct this. It's sad that most of the public can't recognize her natural voice. It's so good. It's not wrong to call Lion Heart "weird', because it is. But among the many titles bestowed on LH is one of those performances that fit SNSD's "Queens of Concepts" title. It is notably different from anything their 'rivals' did or have-done, and it was also a really bold choice for a comeback after a 28-month performance hiatus. It has the gorgeous harmonies for which SNSD are rightly famous, it's charming AF, the members look gorgeous and it is fun and silly---another classic characteristic of SNSD. What you describe as 'retro' is correct, but it's a loose term used, understandably, by those of your age, as a reference apparently to anything and everything more than 20 or 25 years old. The MV specifically references American fashion, dance and popular entertainment styles of several 20th century decades: The silver dresses and columned, palladian set is 1920's, Busby Berkeley (a famed Hollywood musical choreographer) style. The other scenes, dance moves and outfits reference the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Love for you to give their song Catch Me If You Can a listen. It’s my go to cardio song from them. I guess it was officially their first without Jessica. Fun fact, the video was shot in Japanese with Jessica but then everything happened...then later on the reshot it frame for frame without Jessica in both Japanese and Korean (that’s the version I listen to). The real gag is that the Jessica video version leaked online and it’s also on RUclips. I love the song so much, I even have someone who spliced in Jessica’s parts in English from the Japanese version into the Korean version and that’s what’s on my gym playlist. Also probably one of the most evenly split vocal distributions they’ve had.

Sunny is well-versed in 'Trot' ( roughly the Korean equivalent of American 'Country' music), Seohyun is a classically-trained pianist and has a passion for musicals (she's performed as Scarlett in the "Gone with the Wind" musical). They all love movies and of course Yuri, Yoona and Sooyoung are actresses. I imagine all these characteristics play a part in the choices made about song selections, stage performances and music video concepts.
All this 'stuff'---for want of a better word---seems to make SNSD appealing to such a wide variety of tastes and people, and perhaps goes some way to explaining why the title of "Korea's #1 Girl Group" apparently wasn't quite 'good-enough' to describe their wide appeal and versatility; hence, I guess the coining of their "National Girl Group" and "Nation's Pride" titles.
Seohyun, Yuri and Yoona is called the "bermuda triangle" of KPOP especially during their GEE Era, because fans couldn't notice them since those three we're look-alike. No wonder you thought Yuri was Seohyun 😂❤️

Love for you to give their song Catch Me If You Can a listen. It’s my go to cardio song from them. I guess it was officially their first without Jessica. Fun fact, the video was shot in Japanese with Jessica but then everything happened...then later on the reshot it frame for frame without Jessica in both Japanese and Korean (that’s the version I listen to). The real gag is that the Jessica video version leaked online and it’s also on RUclips. I love the song so much, I even have someone who spliced in Jessica’s parts in English from the Japanese version into the Korean version and that’s what’s on my gym playlist. Also probably one of the most evenly split vocal distributions they’ve had.

Honestly whatever vibes you get from other groups is pretty much pioneered by SNSD, they were “the” group to set trends and experiment with new concepts. So a lot of the 3rd gen groups inherited much from these girls.
Lion heart isn't my most favorite song but it's definitely catchy and easily gets in your head. Lil touch was a grower for me and now I love it!
