The Subaru CVT is much better than any other CVT in market. It shifts like a normal automatic. A lot of people who drive it have little complains unless you want performance. In that case go buy the STI
Wife and I just bought a new 2016 3.6R Limited about a month ago and we're loving it. We chose it over the 2016 Honda Accord Touring primarily because of the AWD.
Great Purchase , i am in Australia and the only difference i can see between the 3.6R over there to here is we don't have an option for rear heated seats. It doesn't bother me as i will rarely have anyone else in the car but it is an odd ommission over here all the same. Great car though. I bought it as soon as i test drove it.
Does it get great gas mileage I can't decide between the 2.5i and the 3.6r I know the V6 has way more power and I love having power but gas mileage is also important too me
@@jstersmithson get the 2.5 its gets much better gas milage there is no V6 option all Subarus have horizontally opposed boxer engine the 3.6 is a 6 cylinder boxer
This is what a Boxer engine sounds like. It sounds fantastic. The people that are saying a Honda Civic or Toyota camera sound good, are absolutely misguided lol
Everyone complaining about cvt doest realize that most people a cvt is better. Some people don't even know the difference. As long as the car is smooth and fuel efficient, then its a bonus for most people.
+MrNick98 The problem with CVT's is they don't really have any crisp responsiveness if you need to downshift to pass a slower moving car or pull out into traffic or something like that. The revs just slowly rise over time. Good for off the line acceleration but in every other area it is lacking. The only vehicle with a CVT I would consider is a Honda product. It feels more like a traditional auto. But even Honda's CVT is not perfect as the revs can still take forever to rise and get the car moving in some situations, when in a normal automatic or manual you could have just downshifted and blasted your way out of there in a fraction of a second.
+bokkey45 I have to agree. Now that i remember driving a nissan altima with a cvt. That was a disaster. my mother owns a 2015 CRV with a cvt, and it is very responsive. Once you punch it, vtec kicks in and it flies. Had to pass a truck once on the highway, had no problem. Depends how it is executed. But the 30 mpg we average is also a huge bonus.
***** You can't possibly tell me that a Nissan CVT will downshift as quickly and effortlessly as a regular auto or manual. Even in Honda's CVT if I get a little hard on the gas it takes like a full 5 seconds for the revs to finally get up to where the throttle is telling them to be. Sometimes it will raise revs like a regular auto, but at least half the time there is this annoying delay. And Honda makes the best CVT on the market.
Most people who drive CVT aren't car enthusiasts either. All they want to do is get from point A to B and be fuel efficient, leave no carbon foot print, etc.... same type of people that will go for self driving cars if Ford/Google make it happen. They also don't watch Winding Road.
I love the Lineartronic CVT combined with the 4cylinder boxer so much. It really drives super smooth and makes the boxer sound nice when pushed. Under normal conditions the rpm's seldom get above 3000 in my Forester...but the power is instantly there when you floor the pedal.
I like that the door handle is lit. I rather it be red, though. I think the interior door opener should also be lit. I've been in friends cars or others been in mine and we run our hands all over the door looking for the door opener at night.
Almost bought this car. Was highly impressed with the responsive engine, braking performance, radio/sound system, safety features, ride quality, quietness, fit and finish but the seat cushion didn't seem big enough for all-day comfort and I was worried about leg/back pain on a long road trip. Also, you cannot get the HID headlights without getting the 3.6 liter V6 which isn't much stronger than the 4 cylinder. Additionally, while the idea of all-wheel drive year-round wet weather stability is a huge plus, a flat tire on an all wheel drive car requires all 4 tires needing to be replaced due to possible damage to the AWD system, a huge negative. Ended up buying a Hyundai Azera which has a huge front seats, HID headlights, Premium Sound, Ventilated Seats, and a very quiet interior. Honestly, I will admit that the ride quality of the Legacy Limited is nearly as good, possibly slightly better than the Azera's ride.
lol isn't isn't much stronger? The 4 cylinder is 126kw the 3.6R is 191 with 350 torque. It is more than you need . I just ordered a lapis blue 3.6r got it with front and rear sensors as part of a package deal. It's a beautiful car. I wouldn't drive a hyundai even if i was paid to. I would take the AWD Liberty over a Korean car any day.
My father used to have a 2000 Legacy. I didn't get a chance to drive it but he said it was a much more involving car than the Accord & Camry in the day. Sad that this new Legacy looks abut the same as any Accord & Camry nowadays.
+Trades46 it looks all right la..for a family car, awd is the point of subies, maybe thats why your dad said it feels more involving than accord, civic, camry
Hate the way the steering wheel looks, and hate the front grill. Otherwise this is a really nice car. Test drove one awhile back and the ride, visibility, and handling are excellent. Just really wish Subaru would ditch the CVT and go with a 6 speed automatic. They would easily have an edge in the segment then.
This was the 2.5i. I've driven the new 3.6R with the CVT and it sounds much better, but the CVT still diminishes the experience. Replace that with a 6 or 7 speed traditional transmission and you have a pretty sweet AWD sedan for under $40k.
+Экспертное Подразделение Диванных Войск! In fact, it's the only gearbox available for both engines. But, despite being a CVT, car testers say it's a great gearbox
it looks like premium model with 16" rims and with fog lights and hid and rear led lights ??? I heard the limited model have different suspension setup??? is it correct ? thanks
+2gud4umenglez I saw the year and I immediately thought. "Crap, it's a CVT." Though, they wouldn't be terrible for someone that's not like ,"VRROOM VROOM RACECAR" They should still offer the option for at least their 5MT. It's sad to see the sporty Legacy go.
Wankers sayin' CVT sucks don't even have Subaru with CVT. CVT is a lot better than manual or regular old automatic gearbox, especially whenever you got stuck in a traffic jam, and saying that CVT is slower than manual is an utter bullshit, acceleration depends on how much pressure you apply on a gas pedal, if you floor it like a madman then the car will go at its fastest.
@@SimplexSM absolutely not true. By the end, you use a little course of gas pedal to gain a good acceleration. Too good to be almost unbelievable with such low RPM.
I really wonder about the actual fuel savings with a CVT vs a traditional automatic. Neither are meant to add anything to the experience of driving, but the CVT is even more boring than a traditional automatic in my opinion.
I test drove the Subaru Impreza with the CVT and.. I can say nothing good about it, I tried the paddle shifters on it and it was so bad.. Slow as well.. I also test drove the manual Impreza and it's a totally different vehicle!
Honda has about the best CVT system on the market, and I was hoping that the Legacy would be similar . . . apparently not. The one in the Corolla is better than this one.
Driving 2016 Legacy now, 217,000 now, still drives like a dream, best bang for the buck on the highway in my opinion.
Hows the engine reliability?
The Subaru CVT is much better than any other CVT in market. It shifts like a normal automatic. A lot of people who drive it have little complains unless you want performance. In that case go buy the STI
Constantine Joseph The software for their CVT is definetly very good, and lets the rpms climb up to the sweet spot right off the line.

It depends on the colour i got the Lapis blue 3.6R intend on putting something like Enkei SC22 wheels on it soon. Should jazz it up a bit.
I love subaru legacy.
CVT should've never became a thing
Everything should have stayed manual
If you don't like cvt then you probably don't like auto, which is okay.
what a friendly car

Just go for the manual.
+Simplex SM There is no manual model in the US.
They won't do that though , pretty soon there would be any conventional auto boxes left.
This car is pretty nice. But honestly, if Honda would just put an AWD system in the V6 accord, it'd be perfect for me.
Well you don't buy a CVT if you're looking for a drivers car or spirited sound and performance
You will receive performance, but not the spirited sound, unfortunately.
The sensation is to always underuse the engine.
Is it the 2.5 or the 3.6? I think it sounds like the 2.5

I like this car a lot
Sounded surprisingly noisy on the freeway.

Can you test drive a Crown Vic? If you can find one...
Yes please
+Swine Flu why does everyone want to see a crown vic? they're all over NYC. please explain! thanks.
+Maglia Rosa
Crown Vics are badass vehicles that were used for years by the cops because it is cheap, reliable and tough as nails.
Swine Flu cool =)
+Swine Flu Whats so amazing about them? There not even that fast. Sure there peppy but for a V8 its a dog. If anything drive a Mercury Marauder.
this model 2.5 or 3.6?
This is what you cal Manu-Shifting your CVT. It's still a CVT.
It will always CVT, even in manual mode.
The feel is the same.
I like the sound of CVT's said no one ever.
Nothing wrong with these CVT, better than some other autos.
There is nothing wrong with CVT's, they are economical but are just lazy typically noisy unpleasant transmissions especially at highway speeds.
No different than other autos, really. The Subaru CVT a lot better than the laggy VW DSG. Drove them both last week!
You can't hear the CVT in the 3.6R not sure about the 4 cylinder models though.
Wankers sayin' CVT sucks don't even have Subaru with CVT. I am thinking about buy a nissan qashqai. But I need a drive video. Please upload a nissan qashqai drive video.Thank you!
3.6R please
Can you sometimes pedal to the metal??
It's a CVT... You ALWAYS need to go pedal to the metal, otherwise you'll accelerate really slowly.
@@SimplexSM absolutely not true. By the end, you use a little course of gas pedal to gain a good acceleration.
Too good to be almost unbelievable with such low RPM.
I'll buy it
