Banana Bay is a great restaurant on one of the most beautiful beaches. Kayak Nature Tours has many options. There’s West End Eco adventure. I’m disappointed that the taxi driver wasn’t more educated on what is available. The nearby local communities have many options as well.
There are way more excursion options than what was listed. I don't know if I'd say your cab driver was being honest. Yes, there's not much to downtown, but tourists never go downtown. He could have taken you to see some highlights of the island.
Grand Bahama is definitely not how it use to be. That is mostly due to the economic down turn from 9/11 and lets not forget we are directly in the pathway of hurricanes. The last hurricane , Dorian, nearly took the island out. Many are still trying to recover from the damage it caused. Shortly after cam the plandemic. So it's been a rough road for this island. Happy you were still able to enjoy and look on the bright side.
I am from Freeport born and raised 25 years finally had enough and left to Canada a few months ago..that place is as dreadful as it looks, sad to say cause I’m from there ! Glad you seemed to enjoy it and found a few little things there is to do 😉

Freeport was so boring before covid and looks pretty much dead now. Why would the ship even bring you there. I feel bad for the locals. Thanks for letting us come on your trip
Well I have had 2 persons buy a home and a condo here and they love it. Many new investments are going on. Grand Bahama is a safe and great place to visit and to live.
We are going there this summer! My family and I have been going there almost every summer for the past 25 years. From what I have read Freeport is starting to open up more. We love Freeport, the people, the nature especially! We just spend time going to the parks and beaches!:)

I'd suggest the Garden of the Groves on your next visit or the caves in East End.

i was there during the pandemic (jan 2022).. and cruising wasn't fully back yet!
