Hello everyone, first of all, it’s good to be back after a year of this channel sitting dormant. I’ve been working on this video in particular since early 2022, and now it’s finally done. I never really expected it to be this long, but as I wrote the script it just became longer and longer. If a video of this length isn’t your thing, then that’s totally fine - it’s understandable as 11+ hours is a long time to sink into one video. However, if this video does interest you, feel free to watch it at your own pace, and remember to use the chapter select and time stamps in the description for easier viewing. If you endeavour to watch the entire video, thank you so much! It’s really appreciated, as this video has been a huge passion project for me over the last year. As a disclaimer, this script was finished in around November last year, so some of the things I talk about may seem outdated. Especially when I say "In February of this year" in reference to the release date of Horizon Forbidden West right at the start of the video (a complete mistake that I left in by accident). Another example is when I talk about the Horus Titans during the Open World Overview section of the video, I wrote the script before the Burning Shores was even announced, so some of the topics I talk about may seem outdated given the events of the DLC. This is only because I didn't want to alter my original script too heavily, as this video is meant to be from the perspective of playing Horizon Forbidden West for the first time without prior knowledge of what happens during The Burning Shores Expansion. Just thought I'd clear that up. Anyway, let me stop rambling! I hope you all enjoy the video, and I hope some of you stick around to see what other content I have in the works for the future. Thanks everyone, take care :)
WOOOOOOWWWW YOUR A GREAT GUY. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 you go to alot of effort and trouble to make these Vids. We know its not easy, with all the editing and bits and pieces here and there,, etc etc. But in the end it's a incredible story. ,, i can only say 1 thing,,, YOUR THE MAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I loved watching this video. I've played through the entire game 4 times already, and the Burning Shores twice. I didn't watch in one sitting, but 5. I cannot wait for the 3rd installment to come out. Looks like Guerrilla will be releasing a multi-player title before the next main-line Horizon game (according to job posts on their site)
its sad that its so hard to find passionate fellow fans of this franchise, though im sure it will gain more following when the trilogy is completed, but i gotta say, thank you for this content, we need stuff like this to turn more heads into this amazing world Guerilla made
Yeah it is a shame that a lot of people tend to write this series off before giving it a good go, but there are also plenty of dedicated fans! I've come across many people in this comments section that are very passionate about Horizon, and it's great to see. Thank you for watching!
It's always nice to have more people like the stuff you do. I also think it's hilarious that people were talking about Burning Shores coming out before a big game again and then the star wars game comes out and is badly optimized and buggy while Burning Shores played perfectly for me at least
3:30 the fact that the entire aesthetic, clothing and architecture of the Tenakth is based around the shapes the glitched holograms create is just amazing, the worldbuilding in this game is unline any other I've ever seen, everything just feels alive, it makes sense, it has so much personality! anybody who cares about worldbuilding and character creation should be looking at this game
Finally finished this video. What an absolute banger, can only hope the algorithm pushes it out more than it already has. This really was the Ultimate retrospective of Forbidden West and feels like such a complete journey and analysis of the game that I'm sure any fan of this game will deeply appreciate. A true banger!
Honestly I'm so inspired by your dedication to make this video as complete and in depths as you feasibly could. You, @LazerzZ, and @whitelite are my favorite minds in the video game community when I comes to full in depths analysis of all of my favorite games. It makes me love games so much more than normal because I know I'm not alone in the details i notice during my playthroughs. This video is hands down one of my favorites I've ever watched in my 25 years of life. Thanks gamer.
I think what made Varl's death sadder is realizing how he viewed Beta, and why he fought so hard for her. Beta didnt just represent his close friends sister, from some dialogue in the game (I dont remember which section) it was implied that Beta made Varl remember Vala, his younger sister who was killed at Aloy's proving ceremony. He already saw one little sister die, and he fought like hell to make sure another one didnt.
On the bright side, his death allows Beta to start her trauma recovery process by showing her that there are people out there that truly care about her as a person, not as an inanimate tool used by a narcissistic society
It's a shame, because I haven't pick up any of that when I've played, and Varl could really use that context more explicitly because he's such a plank of wood in FW
@@dreamy_error It's obvious that's where they were going not only when Aloy spoke to Beta about Rost, but also how Aloy saw Rost when Varl came to rescue her from the Hades proving grounds. From now on, if he shows up in the next game, I'm going to see Rost as a death omen.
Finally, a video that analyses the skill trees in depth. I glossed over the skill trees so hard in my critique because I got so bored writing about them on my first go of the script and I got so many comments that wished I'd gone in depth I nearly lost my mind 😭 I'm gonna be honest too, I had no idea there was this much complexity either, I think I really paid little attention to the skill trees when I actually played the game itself, and once I found a Valor Surge I liked, I just stuck with it rather than messing around, this was really interesting to listen to.
I actually really enjoyed writing about the skill trees! They are the foundation that makes the end-game play so well once you get all your skills. There are for sure a ton of useless ones that serve as filler, but the active skills are impactful. The Valor Surges in particular were things that I really enjoyed playing around with -- there's just so many to choose from and they all fit in different circumstances. Although, I'd be lying if I said I didn't just use Overshield like 75% of the time.
I think most people don't really care because towards the mid to end of the game you're already almost overpowered so the extra skills don't make much of a difference
@@mikehurt3290 With different skills and valor surges, there are just too many options to keep track of in your head. Especially if you also consider the melee and want to memorize a few combos of that system. You end up with six different weapons and 18 selection options in terms of ammo and stuff. Then you add the different skills for all of the weapons and it's just way too many options. I also ended up just using my six weapons and that's it. Just an easy set-and-forget valor surge, no melee and never used the skills after entering the true Forbidden West.
Not only have I found an amazing video & channel, I found a _second_ new channel I love, yours! Thank you for commenting bc you just made my day. You two (oop and comment op) are now my fav channels, thanks!!!!
I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of effort put into a project this big. Absolutely incredible, just wow! I look forward to watching parts of this every day
10:19:01 I also love this scene because it has always made me wonder how Guerilla managed to get 2 of Keanu Reeves’s favorite people to work with in the same room. It also reminded me that Angela Bassett is in this as Regalla & it’s insane how they got these big names in one game.
Just watched the intro montage and I already know this'll be an utter gem of a video! Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are up there in my list of favourite games and to see someone express that same passion in a video of this magnitude is nothing short of gratifying.
@@LongEaredFox_ Reached the end and I can say with absolute certainty that it did indeed resonate with me! You've outdone yourself once again, thank you so much for making this.
after 3 days of watching I've finally finished this masterpiece. I fell in love with the Horizon series in 2017 when my sister started playing HZD and I can't wait for the last part of Aloy's journey. This world is incredibly well crafted, and there are so many diverse characters it's hard not to love it. On top of that, the stories of the Earth and Aloy are captivating and beautiful, truly amazing work from the Guerrilla team. Thank you for this exhausting analysis of one of the best games out there, your passion is beautiful and I hope there will be more Horizon content in the future.
To add to my other comment the NPCs in this game are amazing. The lift operator who at first wouldn't let Aloy down ended up coming to her side when the priest tried to go back and the Oseram soldier who was escorting the priest was tired of his nonsense up to the point he was gonna leave him behind cause Aloy told him to escort the priest to Chainscrape. Then the guys in Las Vegas specifically Morlund who showed such passion for his craft and the legacy his grandfather left him. T.J. Thyne did a fantastic job voicing him. Let's not even forget Kotallo who was my favorite of the new group that is a badass and Zo who gave erend a run for his money strength wise which was wild and Alva who geeks out when discovering new info. There's just so many NPCs who added so much to the story. I don't see how anybody can say that the NPCs in this game aren't better than Zero Dawn by a mile. I also like how Erend called Aloy out on her nonsense. She was acting so cold towards him and everybody else. I get that she has to do her thing but she was unnecessarily rude to him. She didn't even really apologize to him. She said I'm sorry YOU couldn't handle me leaving. That's not an apology at all. The least she can do is say I'm sorry I left but there's something literally only I can do. I think she changed after this moment. Cause after that she agreed to help Zo and let her tag along and she did the same with everybody else that joined her. Really nice development for her
4:10:00 The AETHER mission was my favorite out of the three sub functions search, as gorgeous as underwater/underground Las Vegas was (with adorable* Oseram companions) or getting to The Greenhouse and learning of the Ted Faro plague and the Quen. Finishing AETHER and listening to that speech calling for Unity (also the name of the song that plays in the background) further cementing Hekarro’s call for union and peace. Plus Kotallo looking at Tekotteh like scorning him. It just gives me chills every time. I feel as inspired as they are.
I also really enjoyed the final scene of The Kulrut, it's an inspiring moment for sure. The Tenakth really are an impressive tribe, and the concepts of their culture and beliefs are so well implemented into the game's world and story.
Also the scene where Kotallo questions Aloy’s authority for trying to bring down the Bulwark & Aloy giving one of the greatest roasts ever in gaming. Aloy: “Hekarro ordered you to help me. You gonna defy him like that arrogant shit up there?” Kotallo: “That was an unkind comparison.”
@@Phanthief95 I love Kotallo’s body language and expressions so much. Looking back to the Bulwark in disbelief and then turning back acknowledging his bad behavior to ultimately say “that was an unkind comparison”. It had so much flavor.
Man Tekotteh was such a tool. Dude the whole time was hiding behind the bulwark like a complete coward and had the nerve to talk all kinds of noise. It took something as simple as a cannon to bring it down. What if an actual Tremortusk had come by? Or a Slaughterspine? The logic behind that just blows my mind with how somebody could be that shortsighted and he's the leader? Oof
I could just listen to this video while working as background noise. It’s nice to see someone else have as much love for this world as I do, this series is seriously underrated. This is why I love having a PlayStation, for games like and Ghost of Tsushima, whose focus is telling a compelling story. I know Horizon 3 will likely be the end of Aloy’s story, but I just don’t want this series to end just yet. Looking forward to your Burning Shores video!
I agree! The horizon franchise is totally underrated, it baffles me that people think it’s boring! It’s one of the most fascinating stories I’ve played in an open world game.
@@LongEaredFox_ I've found that a lot of people are unfortunately and wrongly put off by the tribal look/aesthetics of the games. Based on that look, they think the series is something it's not and don't bother playing it. They're always surprised when I tell them that it's really a post-apocalyptic sci-fi story. One of the best out there too imo. It's an absolute shame it's underrated because SO many of the themes and messaging of the series are relevant to today. And it's just an incredible world and story and character and I wish more people could experience it.
@@morgan0223 I've had several people put off by the looks alone. I'm like okay sure but it's not what you think at all. It's sad that people see tribal stuff and think something else
Stanley's story in Vegas reminds me alot of the vantage spike story in zero dawn. It's really astounding how gorilla tells these small but amazing stories that people can miss easily if they ain't looking
It's a lot like the Boris and Ish stories from the TLOU series that are told through collectable notes, except turned up to 1000 since it's a sci-fi epic. love it
I’m only 2 hours in and I can’t stop watching this video, you have done an amazing job with this video and really know how to capture someone’s attention!
I was watching dozens of behind the scenes and gamemakers’ videos about this franchise. The love and passion the staff puts into these games can be felt. The tiniest details they can focus on (like butterflies appear only below a certain height to sea level and to close proximity to rivers, e.g.) is truly amazing.
I really love and appreciate this. Just finished burning shores. I completely forgot about the beginning of Forbidden West, so I much appreciate watching this analysis. Thank you!
George, you’ve outdone yourself!! This is one my new favorite franchises lately that hasn’t given up on tighter storytelling focusing on leaning on their strengths in character and world building. Looking forward to this vid and the next game ❤️
What a fantastic and heartfelt production this has been to watch. I’m so glad there’s people out here like you to show the Horizon franchise the love it truly deserves! Amazing
This must have taken many weeks if not months to put all this together between playing the game, getting all the details of the story, writing a script, editing etc. Thank you for this. I've been watching an hour each day and it's brilliant.
Videos like this really show the dedication it takes to really go in depth with a game and I for one really appreciate it. These games are truly special and the care put into the world and everything in it makes me happy I gave the first game a chance all that time ago. I think honestly my favorite part about the game besides the usual stuff (combat, world in general etc) are the Datapoints you can find. Each one is a piece of the overall story of how the world came to be as it is and as somebody who enjoys world building and small bits of lore you get they really give you insight on the world as a whole. From the guy in the first game who went around before the end to the places that had an impact on his life, to the story of how one man revived a dead city in Las Vegas, the lore and the world itself is its own character. Sure the post apocalyptic genre has been done to death to the point of redundancy but Guerilla managed to spin it in a way I'd never dreamed of. I'm just about to go through Forbidden West again (had to finish the RE4 remake which was incredible) just to get all the data points and do literally everything the game has to offer after finishing the dlc. Seeing how the dlc ended and the info we got makes me excited for the next game and to get even more info on the world and see how the story unfolds as we explore the world Guerilla will make for us
Horizon is a very unique take on a post-apocalyptic story for sure. Most post-apocalyptic games depict a bleak and soulless world, but Horizon puts a hopeful spin on it that I find a to be a breath of fresh air. The worldbuilding is great too, and it's always fascinating listening to the audio logs and reading the data points to learn as much as possible about the old world. The sheer sense of exploration in Horizon is something that's rarely captured by AAA open world games. I adore this world, and I can't wait for more! Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
9:08:31 I also love this scene because it shows the classic nature vs. nurture argument, as while Aloy & Beta are genetically identical to Elisabet, their backgrounds are in a way similar & different to hers. It also reminded me of how Elisabet herself wouldn’t have been the person she became if she didn’t have someone who gave her strength & helped make her who she was similar to what Rost did for Aloy. That person was her mother Miriam, who taught her to use her talents to serve life, not death. After an experiment went wrong at her childhood home that ended with a tree with a nest of baby birds burned down & Miriam chastising Elisabet over the dead birds, that moment stuck with Elisabet for the rest of her life & Miriam left so much of a profound impact on her that Elisabet’s own company was named after her.
i am brazilian new fan of the franchise, i know this franchise tks to my boyfriend, and he send me this video of us, and wow this amplify my thoughts about the game a lot more easy, excellent work on this video, thanks for the time!!!
Haven't completed the video yet but from the 6 hours I have watched so far I love it. As someone who has been a big Horizon fan since Zero Dawns reveal and played and gotten the platinum for both Zero Dawn and Forbidden west this video was a very nice watch and honestly one of my favorite Horizon Videos. Great job and can't wait to watch the next 5 hours.
You’re crazy for making this be this long (in a good way of course). I’ll definitely watch this in parts for a days to come. I just started playing Zero Dawn this year and finished the story about 2 weeks later. Then played Forbidden West days later and already platinumed it after nearly 3 weeks. I’m already close to getting all the trophies for the DLC. Both are beautiful, beautiful games with a lore unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed. Of course the post apocalyptic/dystopian setting has been showcased time and time again but Guerrilla completely elevated the genre and made it unique with animal like machines instead of zombies. They quickly rose to my all time favorite games and I keep craving more content more than any other game. They’re already alongside Insomniac as my favorite game devs. It’s great to see others like yourself share the same fire passion I have and others do too. I can’t thank you enough for this video.
Thank you so much for watching. Comments like these make all the work worth it in the end. Horizon is a really special franchise for me, and it’s cool to see so many others that share that love for it. Glad to hear you enjoyed!
I can't believe how easy it was to finish an 11 hour video, I didn't even think I could! I consumed these in bits and pieces throughout my days and I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you put into putting something like this together. I can't even imagine the hours you dedicated to perfecting it. Can't wait to see more from you but also, as a huge Horizon fan, thank you so much for contributing to the community and giving it the kind of quality content it deserves along with the other Horizon channels!
I’m back after finishing the journey. This was amazing brother. Absolutely wonderful to sit through and just listen to you delve into detail that no one has gone into. I couldn’t wait for the next period of free time I had so I could get back to this video. This game was something special and you proved it, and you should be proud of yourself for being able to bring it all together. Thank you and the best of luck with your future endeavors :)
THIS is one of the best videos i’ve watched this year in addition to making me immediately plan to finish zero dawn AND buy forbidden west. Thank you for all of your hard work and effort in this video and into the future!
Wow, I just finished watching the Horizon Forbidden West | The Ultimate Retrospective on RUclips and I am blown away! This 11-hour video is an absolute masterpiece, providing an in-depth exploration of every aspect of the game, from its stunning graphics and immersive world-building to its captivating story and engaging combat mechanics. I was impressed with the level of detail and analysis presented in this retrospective. You did an excellent job of breaking down each element of the game and explaining the thought process behind it. It's clear that a lot of care and effort went into creating Horizon Forbidden West, and this retrospective helps viewers appreciate that even more. The presentation and editing of the video are also top-notch. The pacing is just right, and your enthusiasm and knowledge of the game make it easy and enjoyable to watch for the full 11 hours. I found myself completely immersed in the video, eager to learn more about the game and its development. Overall, I highly recommend this video to anyone interested in game, or simply to fans of the game who want to delve deeper into its creation and development. This video is a true testament to the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into making a video game, and it's a joy to watch from start to finish. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for this amazing video. I couldn't help but notice you at the end of the video, and I must say your haircut looks fantastic! 😅
Thank you so much for your comment! It's great to hear you enjoyed the video, enough to watch the whole thing and then comment your thoughts afterwards. I really appreciate it! Also thank you haha, I think I had just gotten my hair cut before recording that snippet -- glad to see someone notice it! 😂
I've had basically a hyperfixation on Horizon for over a year and I think that despite how well it's done, it's CRIMINALLY underappreciated for its characters and gameplay and I AM SO HAPPY FOR THIS LONG-ARSE DEDICATED VIDEO
Amazing work! Watched the entire thing and got to relive the story all over again before jumping into a new game plus now I’ve played burning shores too. Thank you for putting in all this time and effort to make a video worthy of this incredible game!
Honestly I'm so inspired by your dedication to make this video as complete and in depths as you feasibly could. You, LazerzZ, and Whitelight are some of my favorite minds in the video game community when it comes to full in depths analysis of all of my favorite games. It makes me love games so much more than normal because I know I'm not alone in the details i notice during my playthroughs. This video is hands down one of the best i've ever watched in my 25 years of life. Thanks gamer.
I appreciate your support so much! I am glad this video was able to highlight some of the reasons you personally enjoyed Forbidden West. Thank you for taking the time to comment, your engagement with my content is much appreciated :)
This video is quite the feat of dedication and passion, can't imagine the sheer amount of work that went into this. Forbidden West didn't gel with me as much as Zero Dawn did, but both games have such an interesting premise and story that I'm always drawn to videos on them. I'll likely never finish this game myself but with this video I suppose I don't really need to. It's interesting to be able to see why someone enjoys something I didn't, so to have such an all encompassing overview of Forbidden West is quite something. Honestly just an amazing job on this one George. Looking forward to whatever you do next, but hopefully it won't be as long as the extended edition of LotR
The video is probably TOO long, but I didn’t want to compromise this time haha. I’m glad you’re deciding to watch even though you don’t necessarily like the game yourself too much, I hope maybe you’ll come out the other side with a new level of appreciation for it! Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it 💙
@@LongEaredFox_ Well after finishing the video I can definitely say I've a newfound appreciation for Forbidden West, you really didn't compromise and I think it was the right choice. Even though I didn't enjoy playing Forbidden West I had a ton of fun watching this video and I just love the passion you have for it, thanks for sharing that passion
God I loved this game so much I just finished 100% all content in Forbidden West and Burning Shores I think I’ve put about 102 hrs in this game I absolutely adore it. The characters, The combat, The Atmosphere, The music God its not even funny how much I admire the effort put in this game
It took 3 days buy I watched all 11hours and 16 min! Thanks you for making this video! I have fallen in love with this series since HZD. I hope more people can experience the amazing story of Horizon.
Thanks so much for watching all of it, it means a lot. The Horizon franchise is pretty big already, and growing all the time as more people buy Playstations to get into the PS Exclusive library! It's only gonna grow more from here :)
I absolutely loved this video. Thank you so much for your hard work on this incredible project. It's great to see other people share this much passion for the Zero Dawn games.
Wow, this helped me immerge even more into HFW and when I wasn't playing, I would watch this and get more excited to start playing again. Paused at the last chapter to finish playing it, then continued. Those 11 hours flew by and I even wished it was longer. Loved every second of it, thank you! :)
11 hours later, over the course of a week, I have to tip my hat to you, George. It’s been 9 months since I finished my playthrough of Forbidden West, and with the release of the Burning Shores DLC, the outstanding work you just put out has been well appreciated. It took over a year to get this out, but I truly thank you for the passionate way you built the script and the video. The overall structure worked wonders for me, with every aspect of the game covered in a way that just made sense. I'm not going to take up much more of your time, but I thank you for this project and wish you all the best for future ones.
I have played both games twice so far. I admire the fans who take the time to analyze both the back stories and breaking down how defeated adversaries both rebels and machines. Thank you
I often listen/watch things while I work that has the right combination of novelty while also be familiar enough to not distract me. I’ve been chipping away at it for two weeks and it’s been absolutely wonderful, not only not needing to worry about what to pick, but also something with a fresh and lively take on something familiar. Your take on Varls death really got me in the feels, hearing how it affected someone else really felt like experiencing it from the first time all over again. Thank you so much. It’s going to be a long time before I come across a pearl as valuable as this video. If you have any left in you, please make more Horizon content. I will be listening.
Ahhh thank you so much for watching, I am glad I was able to keep you entertained. If you want more content similar to this, I recommend going onto my channel and finding the "Long Form Videos" playlist, there's plenty of videos in there that are similar to this one. As for future Horizon content, I actually plan on making videos for the entire Horizon franchise such as videos for The Burning Shores, Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Frozen Wilds. So there's plenty more Horizon content coming!
I spent two days watching this video, and it was worth every blessed second! For a franchise that supposedly isn't that popular, we sure do have some passionate and dedicated fans.
It makes my heart happy to see someone else so passionate about this game and franchise. All 11 hours were beautifully crafted and made me love the game even more which I didn't think was possible. Thank you for creating this homage to one of the greatest video game stories of all time, you did it justice.
The Detailed Analyis of my dreams! Just started watching, but I'm 100% committed to watching all 11+ hours. BRAVO! Update: Finished the video! It is really well done. It was enjoyable to hear commentary from a perspective of compassion for the characters and their situations. Any chance you'll do one of these for GOW? Or HFW DLC? Guessing the Elden Ring video will be almost as long as this one. I'm here for it!
I am very glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for taking the time to watch! I actually want to do videos for God of War 2018 and Ragnarök at some point, but that’s probably a long ways out at the moment. I plan on doing a video on The Burning Shores DLC sometime this year too - but there are a few videos I want to make before then. Hope you stick around for future content :)
Thank you for putting in the effort! A fantastic retrospective/analysis and incredibly well organized. I appreciate the service you’ve done for this masterpiece that many have overlooked.
This video is top quality. I have enjoyed every minute and this has fuelled me with a feverish desire to replay Forbidden West and into Burning shore. A labour of love, that has been a pleasure. Thank you so much. 💛
Thanks for putting this together. It's very nice to see someone appreciate the game in ways i did. But couldn't put into words well. I also liked the Las Vegas storyline a lot. I feel if Aloy was free to follow her own path. I think that is the sort of life she would most enjoy. Delving and problem solving. I really enjoyed that feeling playing those quests.
Thanks for watching! I agree, Aloy does seem to enjoy the Oseram way of life. But then again, I think she appreciates all ways of life. She just loves life in general, and enjoys taking part in all sorts of cultures :)
I'm here because of LazerzZ. Clearly you love this game as much as I do (given the f*cking 12hr runtime). I've only watched the first 10 mins and I already know I'm watching this till the AM's 😂
Was planning to skip or at least watch a 1.5 speed. but got drawn into way more than I expected so watched the entire video in 2 sittings. loved every minute of it. for me you got the balance right. Love how you add depth to the characters with thoughts of feels etc. I can not believe I spent over 11 hours watching this. I skip through video's with less than 11 minutes. Yet here I didn't once think yeah yeah get to the point. Or feel the urge to skip ahead. awesome vidoe.
That's so great to hear! Thank you for taking the time to watch, it means a lot to me. 11 hours is a large investment for a single video, so you have my respect!
I Finally watched the entire video, took me around 3 days to finish but it was totally worth it. Such a beautiful and well made video. Amazing work. Made me appreciate the game even more. Love this franchise so much.
Loving this video , its making my appreciation of this franchise rise. While I have never vibed with Horizon as much as say something like the Witcher, Last of Us, FromSoft games etc, I do really enjoy hearing your passion for it. It must have taken forever to get this video of the ground...Be proud of yourself man, this is great work
I appreciate comments like this a lot! I’m glad I can somewhat convey just how much I love this franchise, even if you didn’t vibe with it yourself. Thank you for watching 👍
after 3 weeks of watching it bit after bit, I've reached the conclusion 🥳 thank you so much for this fantastic retrospective! I never saw anyone putting so much passion and dedication into a game video. And btw you have a very pleasant voice to listen to :)
I did it!! I just finished watching all 11 hours of this glorious video!! This was by far THE longest video I've ever watched on RUclips. It took me several days, but I did it. Overall I really enjoyed this retrospective of this game! I actually played both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West for the first time over the past year. Both games are absolutely amazing and are now among my favorite games of all time! The storytelling, the characters and the greatest world building and lore I've ever seen in video games all are what make these games masterpieces!!! Aloy is up there with Ellen Ripley as one of my all time favorite female protagonists! I'm glad I was able to make the time to sit and watch this whole video and see someone who adores these games as much as I do! Keep up the Great work man!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It means a lot, I still look back on the time it took to make this video very fondly. I will be doing a video on the Burning Shores DLC, but I have another project or two I want to get done before then. 11 hours is a long time, thank you so much for taking the time out of your week to watch my video :)
Finally finished the video. Where does Horizon Forbidden West rank amongst your favourite games of all time? What do you think of the Burning Shores DLC?
Thank you for watching :) Personally, Forbidden West is actually amongst some of my favourite games. I don't quite know where I'd rank it in a list, but it's definitely somewhere in the top 10. As for the Burning Shores, I haven't played it yet because I'm currently preoccupied trying to 100% the Resident Evil 4 Remake, but I will play it very soon and will definitely make an in-depth video about it as soon as possible :)
I'm in the end game right now. Preparing for ng+ ultra hard. I love the beginning of this video because it further cements how great this game is for me. I've done so much I forgot about chainscrape lol. What a long journey.
Just finished the entire vid. It took me multiple sittings but this was magnificent. I want to thank you for making this beautiful in depth retrospective of what might just be my favorite game series. It made me appreciate these games even more! I'll definitely be playing the third game whenever it comes out, having great faith in Guerilla's ability to deliver yet another awesome experience. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds for both Horizon and this channel :)
Thank you very much for taking the time to watch, I appreciate it. With the Burning Shores just released, all we can do now is wait until they announce Horizon III! Hope you stick around for more content, thanks for your comment!
Cannot even begin to watch this as I haven't played forbidden West but wanted to leave a like and comment to hopefully get this video boosted in the algorithm. Look forward to watching this once I've played the game
8:57:52 I think what also makes Alva a great character is that she’s basically the polar opposite of Sylens. Like Sylens, Alva has this insatiable thirst for knowledge of the Old World & is determined to get it but unlike Sylens who will throw lives away in pursuit of it & keep it to himself, Alva wants to use it to help her people but also won’t sacrifice lives to get it.
I especially liked how organically this game ties into the first one and naturally links the threats and themes. Nemesis is the cause of all the troubles Aloy faces, but the true enemes was always humanity's hubris. Our society "the old ones" have doomed this planet repeatedly and will do so again as long as we exist. Aloy and the new generation of humans born from the ashes of the old can finally create a society and world that learns from this mistakes. Only if they unite and beat Nemesis of course. The only thing I'm worried about is that even if they defeat the incoming Nemsis attack that will not take care of the colony it came from which most likely continues to create machines and will just launch another attack later. Thanks for this long video analyses either way. It's nice to find someone who appreciates this great game for all its aspects.
Thanks for taking us on this journey. I enjoyed your in depth insights into the horizon world. I hope you decide to continue on with Burning Shores. And yes, I watched all 11+ hours.
Thank you so much for watching the entire video! And yes, I will definitely be coming back to do a similar-style video for The Burning Shores. I'd also like to do a big video on Horizon Zero Dawn and The Frozen Wilds expansion one day, so I can have the entire story of Horizon on the channel ready for Horizon III :)
Just finished watching this 11 hour masterpiece! Thank you for the work you put in. As a fellow content creator, I know it wasn’t an easy task. Plus, it felt natural. Which is even a more difficult challenge. It’s incredible to see Horizon be put on the pedestal that so desperately deserves. I remember 2017 when BOTW came out (big Zelda fan here) it dwarfed Zero Dawn…but when ultimately played it, it was an amazing story with amazing gameplay to back it up. The story is quite interesting, unique, fresh, and just hits right. Forbidden West had a huge shoe to fill, but it did and spectacularly, too. Glad to see the Horizon fans join in on your video. It kinda serves as the fire at a camp. Brings everyone together. Thank you again!
I only just started but an 11-hour video that is scripted and well-edited is an insane undertaking. As it is my fav game I think I will be watching in parts. I enjoyed the Aarons joke in the intro.
I'm chipping away at this slowly while I draw and do household chores and can't tell you how happy I was to find this. An ELEVEN HOUR video about HFW? Thank you so much for your hard work! It's fantastic so far and very insightful.
Thank you so much for the time and effort you put in to thus. The Horizon and Red Dead series are without a doubt my most favorite games. (Also I love the the voice for Katollo and Charles are the same are they are my favorite characters in both games). Great work and I hope you had as much fun putting this together as I did watching it. Also loved that you kept some of your fumbles in haha
Thank YOU so much for watching! Red Dead is definitely up there for me, I think Red Dead 2 is tied with Elden Ring as my favourite games of all time. Also, when I noticed that Kotallo was played by Noshir Dalal I knew I'd love him as a character :)
Just finished watching the last 8 and half hour of this video in one go. The time is almost 1am. Time to go to bed😴Loved the video☺A lot of good advice on different things I'm going to take with me when I play. I'm also pretty sure 11 hour long video makes up for one year without any😁 Well done and well rested. You've earn it🥰 I wish you luck on you're next project☺
Wow! I am humbled that you were willing to put so much time into watching this video, I am really glad that you enjoyed it for its duration. I hope you stick around to see what other content I make in the future, thank you very much for your kind comment :)
I love the Horizon games to bits. I still fondly remember how the revelations of Zero Dawn blew my mind. The premis of the overall story is pure genius and it's crafted with near perfection and filled with interesting characters to befriend, care for, dislike or fight. Thanks for making this awesome video so I can live through the game again without having to actually spend dozens of hours again ❤
Holy shit, and here I thought 5 hours for several games was long, ultimate retrospective indeed! Horizon Forbidden West is one of my absolute favorite games, so I just had to watch this! Grant it, I did so at 1.25x speed, and while playing games over some days, so I didn't always pay attention to the visuals, but I did pay attention to most of what you said. It's been a year since I finished HFW, so this was a great refresher. I had forgotten a bit about just how complex this game is on every level, particularly in terms of writing, so you made me appreciate it even more than I already did! I was surprised you gave almost everything about it such high praise, probably because I've seen so many criticisms of it (or people just ignoring its qualities), and I agree with most of your points. Glad to see that some appreciate the hard work put into this game! You timed the release of this video really well too, just after the Burning Shores DLC got released, which is what I've primarily been playing while listening to this video. I timed it really well too, finishing the video right before heading into the final mission of Burning Shores, I'm so excited to finish it! Would you do a video about that DLC too, or are you (understandably) kinda tired of covering Horizon at the moment?
Thank you so much for the enthusiasm for my video! It makes me very happy to hear you enjoyed it over the course of a few days. I will definitely be doing a video for The Burning Shores, rest assured it will happen down the line; there are just other videos I want to make before getting back to Horizon. I also want to eventually do videos for Horizon Zero Dawn, and The Frozen Wilds expansion, just so I have the entire story of Horizon on my channel before the third game. So yeah, this definitely isn't the end of Horizon-related content on my channel, but I've got videos on a few other games planned first :)
Tilda is such an interesting character to me She constantly corrects Aloy and separates herself from the other Zenith, but really she is no different from the rest of them. She can come off as empathetic and caring but its a facade- she only "cares" because she sees Aloy as Elisabet. If Aloy were not a clone of Elisabet, Tilda couldn't care any less about her. Tilda is just as cold and unfeeling as the rest of the Zenith. To me this is best showcased by how ready she is to slaughter an entire tribe without a second thought- and on top of that, expecting Aloy to go along with it given what she knows about Elisabet. It especially shows to me with her lack of care for Beta. It could seem that Tilda cared and empathized with Beta because of that data channel, but that too, is a lie. Tilda never opened the data channel to try and open up Beta to artwork or give her light. She only opened it to try and make a relationship like with Elisibet again, and when she realized that Beta wasn't like the Elisabet built up in Tilda's head, she lost interest and threw her away. This is why Tilda cut it off without even saying anything; what she wanted wasn't there, and there was no point in giving Beta the time of day anymore, especially at the risk of being caught. She legitimately thinks lesser of Beta. Shes the "inferior copy". The irony is not lost on me how Tilda comments that Sylens underestimates Aloy, while Tilda is underestimating Beta. She does not even give a single iota of a thought to how beta could help them, like Aloy thought up in her new, frankly better, plan. Tilda is very complex and very interesting. I love how all of her motivation and hidden agenda are (mostly) read between the lines
1:57:00 So... About That. Yes I know the script was written before the dlc, and yes... It was everything I hoped it could be. Absolutely stunning and daunting to experience
1:52:11 Side note: Stormbirds weren’t created by HEPHAESTUS when it became an AI. They were created when it was still part of GAIA, not originally created for combat. Stormbirds were used in conjunction with AETHER to detoxify the atmosphere and moderate the weather from the skies. This also applies to Snapmaws who were used in conjunction with POSEIDON to detoxify the oceans.
You're right! Many of the combat machines in the game were repurposed from existing types of terraforming machines. However, Stormbirds as we know them in the games (with aggressive behaviour and weapons) were created by HEPHAESTUS. I imagine the original Stormbirds looked a little different to the ones that HEPHAESTUS creates, similar to how the Grimhorns look and behave different to Plowhorns.
Have I played & completed both games? Yes. DLC? Yes. Knows the whole story? Yes. But will I watch a 11+ hour video, telling me stuff i already know? Absolutely
Absolutely fantastic retrospective man. Totally soliddddd, keep up that grind man. Amazing job here. Horizon is one of my favorite series ever and man *chef's kiss*
Horizon series has officially taken over Bioshock series for the best written stories. I absolutely love stories based around the failures and successes of the human condition
Having just put in almost 300 hours on the PC release of Forbidden West, I am so ready to spend another 11 on this video! Probably my favourite aspect of Forbidden West are the environmental restoration missions. I love that not only do we take an active role, we also actually see the changes both on the map and in game. Seeing the Utaru fields become green or the rivers clearing is just so freaking cool.
Wish more people did longer videos like this.
Well played.
You've got my sub
best game ever aside from hzd!
You give love to my favorite franchise and character and you get my love in return. Great job, thank you!
10:15:25 let us take a moment to just appreciate the great work that Lance Reddick put into Sylens. Great character, great actor. Rest in peace 🕊️
May he Rest in Peace.
Oh, that’s very sad news, I didn’t know it :( The guy was such an amazing actor and a human being. RIP
@@Pekka.Pekka.1296 yes it is indeed.

its sad that its so hard to find passionate fellow fans of this franchise, though im sure it will gain more following when the trilogy is completed, but i gotta say, thank you for this content, we need stuff like this to turn more heads into this amazing world Guerilla made
Yeah it is a shame that a lot of people tend to write this series off before giving it a good go, but there are also plenty of dedicated fans! I've come across many people in this comments section that are very passionate about Horizon, and it's great to see. Thank you for watching!
Agreed, it feels lonely being a fan of the franchise
Finally I have found people who likes this game series as I do
I feel that Horizon is underrated even if it has flaws every game has flaws
Thank you so much gamer, I am glad to hear you enjoyed the journey :))
He already saw one little sister die, and he fought like hell to make sure another one didnt.
i saw someone say that Varl was Beta’s Rost and it BROKE ME and this made it WORSE 😭
I felt nothing at Varl's death. The whole setup was weird and he was irritating from the start.
I glossed over the skill trees so hard in my critique because I got so bored writing about them on my first go of the script and I got so many comments that wished I'd gone in depth I nearly lost my mind 😭
I'm gonna be honest too, I had no idea there was this much complexity either, I think I really paid little attention to the skill trees when I actually played the game itself, and once I found a Valor Surge I liked, I just stuck with it rather than messing around, this was really interesting to listen to.
Slacker 😂
God. A video half a day long. Just a feat in its self. I’m truely stunned
Thanks! I hope this video resonates with you :)
@@LongEaredFox_ Reached the end and I can say with absolute certainty that it did indeed resonate with me! You've outdone yourself once again, thank you so much for making this.
this game was the biggest snoozefest
@@reecenotryhs Thank you for watching in it's entirety, big respect!
"Zero Dawn and Forbidden West" my condolences.
The horizon series of games are my favorite games right now. So on that alone. I shall go through this entire video👌
You have my thanks! I hope you enjoy it :)
@@LongEaredFox_ finally made it through the whole thing. Im taking my victory lap after that one
after 3 days of watching I've finally finished this masterpiece.
You gonna defy him like that arrogant shit up there?”
Kotallo: “That was an unkind comparison.”
The analysis this game deserves.
Majestic visuals, Challenging and rewarding combat (on higher difficulties), fascinating story. One of the best games of the current generation.
I agree! The horizon franchise is totally underrated, it baffles me that people think it’s boring! It’s one of the most fascinating stories I’ve played in an open world game.
@@LongEaredFox_ Exactly, Horizon Zero Dawn on my ps4 has well over 100 hrs played
DUDE YES!! The graphics are so amazing and so is the story and everything else!’ Such a underrated game in my opinion.
Oh hell yeah. Been wanting one of these for a minute! Horizon deserves this level of discussion imo
Stanley's story in Vegas reminds me alot of the vantage spike story in zero dawn. It's really astounding how gorilla tells these small but amazing stories that people can miss easily if they ain't looking
It's a lot like the Boris and Ish stories from the TLOU series that are told through collectable notes, except turned up to 1000 since it's a sci-fi epic. love it
I find myself completely immersed in Forbidden West. I literally savored every minute of it and Burning Shores, cant wait for Horizon 3!
I cannot wait to jump into the Burning Shores, I haven't had the chance to yet but I really look forward to it. Bring on Horizon 3!!
@@LongEaredFox_ You'll really enjoy it. So much beautiful scenery to take in, the colors are so eye popping too obviously.
@@LongEaredFox_Will you be doing a retrospective on burning shores as well?
I’m only 2 hours in and I can’t stop watching this video, you have done an amazing job with this video and really know how to capture someone’s attention!
Thank you! Glad to hear you're enjoying it :)
Amazing
Ahh thank you so much for the lovely comment. I truly appreciate you taking the time not only to watch, but to comment too!
This must have taken many weeks if not months to put all this together between playing the game, getting all the details of the story, writing a script, editing etc.
Thank you for this. I've been watching an hour each day and it's brilliant.
time, money, efforts and awesomeness you have put in this vid is commendable. Super LIKE.
All Mother Bless You.
Thank you so much!
No way did I just watch an 11 hour video and enjoy every second of it. Great job!
Thank you very much!!
Halfway done with the video and I can’t express how much Im enjoying this 11 hour + journey.
For a moment I did a double take. Thinking it’s an 11 min video and realising it isn’t. 😆 Great to see so much love for this game. Simply Awesome!
i am brazilian new fan of the franchise, i know this franchise tks to my boyfriend, and he send me this video of us, and wow this amplify my thoughts about the game a lot more easy, excellent work on this video, thanks for the time!!!
Thanks so much! Really great to hear that people like the video enough to actually watch the whole thing, you're a legend!
THIS is one of the best videos i’ve watched this year in addition to making me immediately plan to finish zero dawn AND buy forbidden west. Thank you for all of your hard work and effort in this video and into the future!
Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words. I hope you enjoy playing through both of them back to back, it'll be fun I'm sure!
It took three days, but I finally made it to the end and I regret not one second of it. Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you for watching!
I've had basically a hyperfixation on Horizon for over a year and I think that despite how well it's done, it's CRIMINALLY underappreciated for its characters and gameplay and I AM SO HAPPY FOR THIS LONG-ARSE DEDICATED VIDEO
I agree, Horizon gets lots of hate from people that I think is unwarranted. I hope you enjoy the video!
9:28:16 I can't imagine what it felt like not to have the conversation with varl before the mission 🙂
Honestly, it was so sad. It made his death so much more impactful, not being able to have that last conversation with him before heading to GEMINI :(
Amazing work! Watched the entire thing and got to relive the story all over again before jumping into a new game plus now I’ve played burning shores too. Thank you for putting in all this time and effort to make a video worthy of this incredible game!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I hope you stick around for more content in the future :)
I have been watching this video in parts for about week now and I am in love. Hard to find people who love this game as much as me
I absolutely loved this video.
I am happy to hear this video resonated with you. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your next replay of Forbidden West :)
This was by far the longest Video i have ever watched... but it also was one of the best. Thank you
I'm here because of LazerzZ.
Clearly you love this game as much as I do (given the f*cking 12hr runtime).
I've only watched the first 10 mins and I already know I'm watching this till the AM's 😂
Thanks! I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it 👍
Was planning to skip or at least watch a 1.5 speed. but got drawn into way more than I expected so watched the entire video in 2 sittings. loved every minute of it. for me you got the balance right.
Thanks for watching the entire video, that's a feat in of itself! I'm glad my work resonated with you :)
8.03.00: also after completion if you just jump down and use the shieldwing, Alva will scream aloy which is a cool detail
after 3 weeks of watching it bit after bit, I've reached the conclusion 🥳 thank you so much for this fantastic retrospective! I never saw anyone putting so much passion and dedication into a game video. And btw you have a very pleasant voice to listen to :)
Thank you for this epic video! It was fantastic and I can’t wait to see more long form content from you
Glad to hear you want to stick around to see more content from me in the future. I really appreciate it! :)
Congratulations of finishing this video George. A Herculean effort which I can’t wait to listen to!
Thank you for watching :)
Personally, Forbidden West is actually amongst some of my favourite games.
You sir, are a Horizon mensch. Thank you for this labour of love. Absolutely incredible!
I hope the Tenakth learn how to ride Sunwings in the next game. It just feels so fitting to me.
Phenomenal work on the video!
That would be so cool. To see Hekarro, Kotallo, Dekka, and all the Tenakth lads finally flying on the Wings of the Ten.
Somehow I don't think a Sunwing would support Hekarro's weight.
Or a Glinthawk, or a Skydrifter.
Think he'd be better off on a Stormbird.
Thank you!
@@LongEaredFox_Can´t say I had much els to do, and then I lost track of time😆 I am exited to hear your thoughts on the dlc☺
I could literally come home from work, sleep, wake up and it still be playing 😭
Talk about a PASSION PROJECT 🤙🏾🤙🏾😄💯
That’s actually a crazy thought, really puts into perspective how stupidly long this video is 🤣
Holy shit, and here I thought 5 hours for several games was long, ultimate retrospective indeed!
@@LongEaredFox_ Great to hear! I'll be patiently waiting for them. :)
You should be awarded a doctorate for this massive dissertation and research video. You have my admiration and love of a fellow scholar.
This vid is nearly 12 hours I’m so psyched to see this kind of Horizon content 😮😮😮😮😮
Tilda is such an interesting character to me
She constantly corrects Aloy and separates herself from the other Zenith, but really she is no different from the rest of them.
I love how all of her motivation and hidden agenda are (mostly) read between the lines
just what this game deserves! 11 hour video, thank you, I'll be watching every second of this
I'ma throw you this like real quick for the dedication and effort to make a 11 hour retrospective then I'll watch the rest of this over the weekend 😂😂
Wow you did such an amazing job with this video, thank you! I knew I loved Forbidden West, but this just brought it home even more! 🏆
Absolutely
I love finding long form discussions. Thanks for taking the time. I love the in-depth analysis
