- I am just about 5'5" tall / 165cm with an inseam of 30 inch / 760 mm and I weigh 63kg. After waiting months for a low suspension version of the S1000XR I finally got to ride this machine and found it very comparable to the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX in terms of normal motorway and city riding due to very similar torque delivery.

this video is great! i belong to the short people and was looking for a video just like this. Just because I wanted to see if I could get the S1000xr for my height! your video was enlightening thank you so much! I signed up keep it up and thanks for the content!
Very informative. Sounds as though the latest lowered 1000XR is now more accessible to us shorty’s 👍 I’ll add to my list to tryout as a replacement for my Speedtriple. I think the vibration may be dealbreaker though... Keep up the good work 😀
Thanks so much Andrew. I am glad you still found it useful despite the wonky camera😀. If KTM offered a factory lowered option for the Super Duke GT then I would have been more inclined towards it.
I'm searching This SHORT HEIGHT SEAT xr Video from a while, cus I'm 5"5' boy.. and need to know about Lowered Version. Thank you so much for the Review. ❤️
Thank you very much Sir, I am glad you found it useful. Please don't forget to support me to reach 1000 subscribers by sharing the video with your friends. Much appreciated 🙏
@@InfusedBiker i just Subscribed your channel and sharing it to my Friends. 😀
Thank you so much. I am really grateful for your support.
Thank you so much for this indepth knowledge about this motorcycle. it was really knowledgeable review for the short height people like me.
Btw, did find it a great review. Bought the very same model. Love it.
Great to hear! I am feeling a bit jealous.. I hope you have a great, long and enjoyable ownership of this lovely machine.
low ride height reviews of this bike are thin on the ground so big thanks for this one
Thanks so much Sir, I have been regularly phoning all the BMW Motorrad dealers since March and finally found one at Bahnstormer Maidenhead. I was in two minds whether to upload this video due to the poor angle of the camera but I thought might as well since it's unlikely that another opportunity will be available again.
couple months ago, i went to a dealership and sat on the same bike as this (low suspension) and i love it. I could flat-foot on 1 side.
It really makes a huge difference by lowering the bike. Now I am just not to keen on the price😭
@@InfusedBiker absolutely agreed with you on the price. Here in the states, it's ~$24K with no panniers.
Thanks for the review. Just put a deposit down for a 2022 S1000XR M sport with Premium package, low suspension. Im about 5'7", 29" inseam and hopefully I could manage it.
Congratulations 🥳. I hope you have lots of long lasting fun on your lovely bike😀
Have you gotten it yet? How manageable is the height?
Hi, No unfortunately I haven’t bought the bike. Can’t quite afford it at the moment.😬
@@thumpertorque_ I got mine, booked in Jan 2022 and got it in May, took almost 5 months (custom order, low suspension, M Sport, war and parts from Ukraine situation etc delayed it). Now after 7 months I'm a happy camper. On rolling, parking etc its still on the edge, though I can manage with proper riding boots. I can touch the balls of feet and thats enough. On the run, its perfect and balanced and stable like glue. The best engineered and thrilling bike I ever owned! BTW make sure to order low version if you are under 6ft or less than 32 inch inseam, saves the ride. I know many people regretting going for the std version and then asking for lowering kits.
@@ridingdreamer Did you combine it with the low seat? Also what boots are you wearing?
Thanks. Enjoyed the review as I’m considering the 2023 s1000xr low suspension.
Hi infused rider , it was a good review all the way through and the views were ok and it was good when you showed the handerling as you moved the bike around
Thank you very much Sir, you are very kind.
Hi, thank you for your very informative real-life video. I’m 170cm « tall » (5 foot 7). I used to ride a R1250GS for a couple of years, loved it but at the end I got fed up with how difficult it was for me to manhandle the bike once loaded when not moving, even pulling her up from the side stand at the petrol station. I always wanted the S1000XR but found the bike too tall. After reading some compairisons, I noticed that many journalists thought that the Ninja 1000SX was a good and less expensive alternative. I bought one second hand and have been touring with it during the last two years. I love it, specially the engine and I must say that the bike fits me like a glove. But out of sheer curiosity and also because I still fancy the s1000xr, you have experience on both bikes, how would the engine characteristics and the ergonomics compare? Kind regards
I actually prefer the Ninja 1000SX for the silky smooth engine😁
@@InfusedBiker Problem solved!🙂
Interesting review sir. I didn’t think the camera angle was a problem.
Thanks so much Sir Colin, Much appreciated. I liked the bike but the price just creeps up with all the extras that I would really want.
InfusedBiker that’s BMW for you!!
Yep indeed 😄😃🤣
Great video. And camera angle was fine. Great review.
Thank you very much 😊
Unfortunately, at 80mph, my mirrors are almost worthless due to vibrations. ALMOST a perfect bike! ;-)
Interesting perspective and review. Subscribed!
Thank you very much 😊
Did you happen to have a chance to try one with the low seat also? I have heard the low seat is not very comfortable but it gives a decent amount of extra reach to the ground.
Hi, no I haven’t had the opportunity to try different seats, although I would not say that this seat is particularly comfortable- the wide edges on both sides rub against the inner thigh bones😬
Rolling the bike down an incline should certainly make the centerstand easy to use 😆
Do the short suspensions sacrifice any performance compare to the standard version? Although being 5 foot 11 myself I find it looks better with the short suspensions, it really gives me a dilemma which version I should get.
Unfortunately I haven't ridden the standard version so can't compare suspension with it. However I found the low version comfortable enough for my needs.
@@InfusedBiker thanks for the feedback mate, appreciate it! I think maybe lower suspension version with standard height seat would be perfect for me.
Good luck and enjoy your bike
I just picked up one with the standard suspension settings. I'm 5'10" with slightly short legs. You can lower the suspension a little on the bike settings. I can almost flatfloot on this setting with normal riding boots on. If you're a little taller than me I can't see that the factory lowered version would suit you better. And you'll have to sell it eventually.
Yipheee, congratulations. I hope you have lots of fun on your lovely machine.
Well done Sir. Just subscribed. From Malta :)
Thank you very much Sir for subscribing, much appreciated 🙂
Hi mate i see you have ridden both the 900 and 1000 is there much difference in the height and width of the 2 bikes i'm only 5'3 so every little bit helps !!! cheers from Western Australia !!
Hello there Sir, No I don't think there is much noticeable difference in height with the low suspension 1000 and the standard height 900. Although if you choose to get the low suspension 900 then I think it will feel less top heavy at 775mm seat height.
i am 1,73m and have only the lower seat (820mm) looks same as by yours…
Nice video , i have 170 cm , if i buy the S1000 XR 790 mm version come with electronic suspension ?
Yes the low suspension version I test rode came with electronic semi active suspension. On the video I talk about the suspension from 12:19 minutes of the video.
@@InfusedBiker Is the Dynamic ESA Pro (pack dynamic) I think
For 1250GS, 1000XR etc no matter standard or low, ESA comes with it, so is the center stand. But for 850GS, 750GS, 900 etc if you choose low version then ESA is omitted (center stand also gone for some models).
Hello. I am interested in s1000xr, but i am just 166cm tall. What is your height? Thank you for an answer.
I’m same height with 30” inside leg
Great video, whats the make of your gortex pants ? Chers
Thank you. They are Alpinestar.
@@InfusedBiker much appreciated 👍
So F900XR or s1000XR?
If money is of no concern then S1000XR would be my choice 😃
Can I ask is the xr low similar to 1250gs low for someone with 28" leg
Yes I think the low versions are very similar in seat height but the low centre of gravity is slightly better on the GS.
Why would anyone say that sidestand is too "low"?
Do you often manoeuvre from the offside? Never seen that and wondered why you would risk being away from the side stand?
😃😃 Because I am a shorty I do it wirh the side stand out in case I drop the bike - it will fall back on the side stand.
Is the low seat comfortable on this bike ?
I didn’t find it super comfortable I am sure someone can get used to it after a while.
I just ordered XR M package low seat
I may need to get some cushioning done to it once I get it
Thanks for your response
Sir I am 5'3 in height can I ride this bike?
It really depends on your inside leg measurements from your crotch to the bottom of your heel. And you would definitely need to sit on one try pushing it off the side stand to gauge your ability to manage the weight when bike is stationary
What height are you?
I am only just about 5'5" with 30" inseam
I bought the 2021 s1000xr and I love it. However I’m 5’10 and I found it a little bit too high. I’m always on the toes. Can I retro fit the lowering option?
I am not sure. But check it out with your local BMW Motorrad dealer, I am sure they should be able to do it.
I measure and weigh exactly the same as you ... so I have a chance of one day handling one of those?
Yes, of course you should be able to handle the low suspension version. Find a dealer with the low version and go and sit on one. Best wishes.
Thanks for all your video. I am also 5'5". Can you try r1250rt?
Thank you for watching my videos. Once the Covid lockdown is over I will try and test ride the 1250RT.
What boots do you wear that give 1" extra on the bottom?
Daytona M-Star GTX boots 😁
What boots are you wearing in this video? They seem to have a thick sole.
They are Daytona M-Star GTX with nearly an inch of extra height. Do a Google search for price etc.
Which bike would you choose? KTM 1290 Super Duke GT or this bike
If KTM offered a factory lowered version then I would prefer the 1290GT.
@@InfusedBiker Will the bike get away from you if you are too aggressive with the throttle in rain mode?
@@thomashung4587 No, not at all. It's very controlled and predictable throttle response.
Nice one
Thank you. I wish I had the money to buy it😄😃
Is this low suspension type of kit for apply normal version of s1000xr, or is this bike produce like that?
You can order the low suspension version from factory direct through your BMW Motorrad dealer.
hi! would love to know what does the factory do to make it a low suspension bike. thanks!
I believe they use shorter springs at the front forks and rear shock and also supply the lower seat.
Hi. I own F900xr. Can you pls make a comparison video or can you write me about your feelings between each other? Thank you.
Sorry I can’t do a comparison video 😬 but I would choose the S1000XR for the instantaneous speed and thrills and extra tech 😁 otherwise F900XR is just as capable for all the touring and commuting.
@@InfusedBiker I hear from everyone that the s1000xr is a faster bike. But I don't know because I haven't ridden it myself yet. The acceleration issue worries me a bit. I recently learned that a rider who had the first version of this motorcycle died.
@ It all depends on how you ride, how you control etc. If you are a sensible rider you can even ride RR or Panigale and still enjoy it without any such incidents. Be mindful of the power and throttle accordingly. One could die even on a 250cc if reckless! As for 900XR and 1000XR, I booked the 1000XR. I know its bigger and faster but in the long run it will have better build, more comfort and superior handling. Once you get used to it, IMHO, 1000XR will be better.
Ground clearance wil be same as stock ??
No, it's lowered version so ground clearance is reduced.
What is you height?
I’m just under 5’5” with leg inseam of 30”.
Sir what is your height sir?
5’5 with 30” inseam
What's your height Sir?
5’5”, inside leg measurement of 30”
What is the seat height now?
790mm
@@InfusedBiker did u change the seat or lowering the suspension?
This is the BMW factory lowered suspension that you can order if you buy the bike
I am 5'2 ft tall and 63kg, can i ride this bike?
What is your inside leg length ?
@@InfusedBiker 28 inch
I think if you wear a pair of boots that have some extra height you will be on your tip toes but you can easily have majority of one foot on the ground if you slide to one side. The best thing to do is visit a dealer and try sitting on one and see how you feel.
@@InfusedBiker Thank you so much 👌
Not sure why I'm looking at this review about a bike I can never afford.
😄😃 I don't think I can afford it too but I am hoping to win the lottery someday
@@InfusedBiker Well, count me in brother. 😆
😃 Well if I win the Euromillions I'll buy two and give you one.
@@InfusedBiker Hahaha got my fingers crossed. 😂
