You da MAN Kent! Bye Bye Blackbird was the tune that inspired me to learn music performance when I was only 5. Mom took me to see my first live band then. A huge lady got up with her accordion and belted out the song to a large audience of ballroom dancers and they were instantly transformed into rhythmic motion. I was astonished! The POWER she had with them led me to where I am today at age 74, still playing it. That it was composed in 1928 doesn't matter...modern audiences still dig it! Your interpretation gave me new insights about what can be done without repeating anything, especially in the improv section. Your technique is masterful, but what I like most is your style of teaching which includes important concepts that apply to any performance! Kudos!!
Excellent topic - I'm surprised more online channels haven't addressed specifics of playing in a jazz piano trio including how to state the head, intro/outro, comping, fours, listening to each other etc. Love the content and quality of your channel!
Hello Kent, I purchased your Jazz Book. Looks like a lot of good material for me to work on. Thank you. Is there any way I can purchase really good backing tracks to go along with the tunes in the book, or any tunes for that matter? I think this would greatly enhance the learning curve and boost the excitement of repetition. I often hear you guys using backing tracks...I would gladly pay them. Anyway, just an after thought. Thank You Kent.@@KentHewittpiano88
