I’ve ran a cow calf operation operation in southern Oklahoma since 2005 with no mineral. We use rotational grazing with no feed hay or cake, no worming or vaccination. We calve in May green grass on pastures that are not weed sprayed or fertilized. We have eliminated most of our overhead leaving lots of profit.
@@ruedaricardo we use smaller framed cattle 1,000-1,100lbs bred. This would be impossible with with big framed cattle/welfare cattle, they would fall apart with horrible conception rates. My job is to provide them with good grass and clean water if a cow can’t survive on that I don’t need them. High density rotation has really helped control weeds. We are mostly native grasses like little/big bluestem and they don’t respond to fertilizer even if we wanted to use it. My only expenses are ear tags, replacement bulls, fence maintenance and ranch hands. There are lots of ranchers doing exactly what we do, people say it’s not possible but it’s worked great for us.
The problem with these types of supplements for cattle or horses have molasses or something that encourages the animal to over lick or eat the product. This causes an over consumption of the product ............CHA CHING$$
I'm not a rancher but I have family that are in the Panhandle of Texas. I helped some when I was younger and while it was hard work, I learned so many things that made me a better person.
Thank you for the information on salt and minerals. We are in a area that we make sure they have Selenium along with other minerals , along with salt using loose which works well for our circumstance. Always Great videos. Thank you, appreciate your efforts.
It is our experience that not all cows go to lick tubs, then we have had cows under the weather. We put all minerals in the grain tank of the bale processor and just add free choice of salt blocks.
Hi Mike, I have a question for you. Do you use a tellapromtor for your in-house presentations? Just to say, thanks for the great video, your a natural! 🤠
We have been experimenting with lick tubs but find that they are extremely expensive. We have about forty animals and two tubs only lasted a bit over a week. The cows went crazy for them !! But with the tubs costing 250.00$ each I don’t think we can afford to keep buying them !! Will the cow’s intake slow down eventually? We are up in the northern part of Canada. Thanks !!
I used lick tubs this winter because they were super cheap at one of our chain farm stores otherwise economically in years past it always seem to be way too expensive of a source of protein seemed like it was cheaper to go off firm to buy high-quality hay to get that protein instead of lick tubs or cakes curious if you did an economic analysis of that?
I heard about these "protein blocks" from Ryan on How Farms Work. He said he was going through ~1 bale / day with his cattle before putting them out. After, it was ~2 bales every 3 days. He was saying that if the cows are deficient, they eat more fodder / hay. All I know as an end consumer is: Mmmmm....unprocessed steak.
I wonder if this also applies to humans. If you are nutrient deficient, then you naturally eat more as your body strives to satisfy the nutritional need. Interesting.
every seen a cow drink another ones urine - they are getting the minerals from that cow it's not the urine they want - love licks but also love free choice minerals just so you know what minerals that they are wanting - a lick and the free choice one they want works really well

Wow. How do you do that?

Hi John.. Are you raising South Pol or another small framed breed?

Now that my friends is the smoothest infomercial I have ever seen
First infomercial in didnt skip... will definitely get it for my highlands amd see if they lick it w that passion.
It's that radio experience. Smooth voice and probably plenty of practice doing 'mercials on air.

I love your talks. I have been using protein tubs and my calf production has been much better,
Great points, we use lots of salt blocks, and even more loose, high selenium mineral here in Florida. Keep up the good work.
This is a awesome educational video. Great vid!!! Keep it up
Thanks Mike, very informative, as your videos always are! 👍 - Kim

Hi, great video, congratulations on the work. how many cows do you have on your ranch? and how many calves do you sell in a year?

Great job with that Mike. I don't have cows. I just listened for the radio voice. lol
You have a fantastic channel, Mike
Up in ND you can stop by Gabe Brown's operation.
Hope your all doing well
I first heard of FBN by Millenial Farmer. My estimation of them is increasing.
Have you ever tried a lick block? 😳😳😳
As a kid I tried the salt block we put out for my horses! Not too bad! 😜
It's cool that the tubs are biodegradable!
Good show Mike!
Excellent data
Well Done. thanks
Thank you too!
Healthy cows happy rancher! 😊
Learned a lot! Thank you.
Happy cows, happy wife! wait, no that's not it. Happy cows, happy life! Yea, that's it! I love cows. Thanks for the education, Mike.
You should use plastic lick tubs for growing vegetables in you don’t have to weed their called wicking tubs

Cool video Mike
Awesome video
Thanks!
We raise goats over on our channel Lucky M Boer Goats and we often joke, "you feed mineral and supplement with grain and hay"
"Moving a whole lot of poop," can't wait!😂🧡
me too!
@@OurWyomingLife mike we just did our poop video check it out!!
Good Evening to Our Wyoming Life and all others too!
I'll have to look into them. Delivery to Maine is our issue, we're at the end of the line when it comes to supply chains.

"A delirious cow is no fun to deal with."
I'll take your word on it my good man. LOL.
😳 You funny boy.
Healthy cows are important. There is nothing like a good steak! 👏👏
FBN. is not yet doing business in my state. Hopefully soon!
Nice video
Good video
It looks like the cows are eating the tub itself? Are they cow degradble ?

Lori, yes it does. If your trace minerals are off, your body will crave all sorts of food trying to balance.
ok - just eatin' my dinner - enjoyin' your video.... Until it came to the J Depp part - nearly choked on my food laughing so hard!! Thanks! :-)
there always is a cost to a deferred payment. Hopefully it is minimal. I'm an accountant.
:25 " get to da choppa" 😂
Can I buy this in Alabama
My cows where licking my sand pile the other day they got a salt block and cattle lick tube
There is just something satisfying about watching those cows licking those tubs
That’s a lot of Bull on protein
Just thought they were crops. Didn't know they did the livestock thing

First. Lol. Seriously, nutrition is very important in healthy animals .
Nope I was first

Thanks for the video!
Maybe I need a lick Tub, my electrolytes are wonky!, 😝
Host Mike ✋
JO JO IN VT 💕😄☃
Sing how little salt account needs makes me wonder how little salt a human needs versus how much salt we probably actually intake in a day.
You got that right! That's why I read the nutrition label!
Damn right I want to be that egg!
Mike could sell a space heater to the Devil and a refrigerator to an Eskimo. 😀😀
How bout those mountain goats who climb up the near vertical wall at some damn just so they can lick the minerals. It's interesting to see, google it.
That it is!
30 in 30 when's ir start'n ?
An interesting video those lick tubs look pretty kool glad their bio degradable the Johnny depp part had me laughing
❤️🐄
FBN sure took a bite out of your local dealers sales
