Wow, this was very helpful for me. It always makes me so sad, when i can't find the ending. So now I will watch your Video again and make me notes for the Check-List. I love this painting. For me it shows the glory of God behind a curtain. We can not enter because we are not spirit in general. But we yearn for it our whole Life...🥺 Thank you so much.
Hello again and thank you for sharing another interesting subject. Currently, I’m writing a post where I briefly touch on the beginning and ending/completing an abstract painting. Many beginner and professional artists may find a blank canvas quite a challenge to make a start. In my case, it's more towards ending or completing the painting. Over the years, I learned to connect with my inner feelings. It may take a while to connect with the artwork, but when it happens all the dynamics of the creative process come together in great harmony and balance. That same connection stops suddenly and tells me it's now complete. It’s hard to describe in words.
very well put! knowing when a painting is finished is both unconscious awareness and conscious understanding that it's "there." Many thanks for your comments!
What an excellent discussion, so many interesting things I have not heard before about how to create and analyze our work. And your paintings really do reflect what you teach about the need to engage both intellectually and emotionally. Thank you for these videos!
After years (oh, yes, many years) of being done - only - if it FELT right, this phase really helps me look at the pieces and parts of a painting for resolution. Thank you for this new way of looking at the finish. I also like the escape hatch of throwing out the checkpoints checkpoint! Lovely painting, by the way. I love the symmetry/not symmetry of it.
This is great to hear. It can be challenging to know when a piece is finished. I too rely quite a bit on how a painting feels to me, and that's very valid. The checkpoints are another tool to help us know if the painting is "there" or not. I'm glad you found the info useful. Thank you for the comment and for watching!

Catching up on missed comments. I'm dating myself, but WeChat wasn't even a twinkle in someone's eye when I studied there. Ha! Hope you're benefitting as much as I did. It was a fantastic experience.

This painting glows and almost lifts off the canvas. I can't describe it any other way.
Thank you Grace. Appreciate the feedback.
