Thanks so much, my dad was a mechanic and he would help me with all of my car issues and teach me along the way. He passed away a few years ago and this was the first time I had to replace a bulb on this car so this was really helpful!!
Thank you! I’m gonna try this in the morning. I had to get a new battery for mine, and as a result the headlights went out. I spent $220 on a battery, I can’t afford another $100-150 for headlights.
Awesome, I hope this helps. I know it's not the most detailed video. But it should be enough to get you going. it's really easy to do. I might redo the video because my headlight has went out again. Maybe I'll set up a tripod the next time.
I doubt it was a loose plug/wire. These year model malibus had a recall for headlight wiring shortly after release. The wiring harness gets to hot and melts on the inside which eventually leads to the connection breaking and the light failing. Next time it looks like you have a bulb out just try bumping the outside of the headlight lense with your hand. After market lED bulbs ended up being my solution. Great job and the easy and comprehensive video.
Thanks for watching. I'm glad it helped. I know it wasn't the most detailed video but I figured it was enough to show somebody the basics and save money.
It's actually very easy to do and way better than spending a $150 at a shop. I Mostly have RC car videos on my channel but when I do a little mechanic work I'd like to throw them up there to help. And this video has helped a lot of people apparently. so thanks for watching
Legit watched this video, bought headlights, rewatched this video, saw a comment to just bang around the headlight, walked out and started the car, banged/tapped around till i hit the top of the headlight, and it worked. Read this comment to know how to fix the headlight without removing the bumper.
The bad thing is, it will go right back off. As soon as you hit a bump, but it has a broken contact inside the bulb. My truck is doing the same thing right now.
Yes that’s same thing that happened to my daughters car. As soon as I popped it out the assembly it came on . I removed the bulb and seen the socket was blown . But it worked when it moved a certain way . Then I find out there is a TSB on those years Malibu. And a recall . If changing it worked for you that’s awesome but I’d really look at that socket bro !
Yes, it actually did it a second time probably 6 months later, the bulb went out and when I went to change it, I smacked it and it came back on, but then it quit again and it was the light bulb that time for sure. But since then, it has been working great, hopefully no more issues. And thanks for the info I will keep an eye on that.
@ezboyrc553 Sure did! My friend bought it used, so all the plastic pullers were missing! Made job about half the time needed lol! Couple of spare bolts/screws later, wah-lah! Thanks again! 👍👍🙏✌️😎🐍
I should open my own shop. What should have been a 30 minute job took four damn hours. 😂😂 still ain’t straight, but I was doing at least two hours in the dark.
Now your talking my language. I've worked for an auto manufacturer in ohio for 25 years. Electrical diagnosis sucks . I've changed many headlights without removing the bumper!!
I'm not sure how many other cars are like that. this is the 1st one I've seen. Luckily I grew up working on my own cars because there was no way I was paying a shop $150.lol
exactly. i bought a used '09 a few months ago, didn't even bother to think or worry about replacing bulbs, because it's not a stinkin' PRIUS,....figured heeeyy, a CHEVY!!! YAAAAAY! ya know, american car, easier maintenance, blah blah, blah....was easier to put bulb into the prius, after a couple friends figured out the "How to" without having to take front end of car. da hell, thanks chevy
Because it's a pain in the ars, all types of plastics bits break off and it won't line back up perfectly. Look at the bumper gap lines on any malibu and you can immediately tell if the bulbs have been replaced
Yo thank you for this video sir but I have to say I got my malibu 09 a year ago and why is our front emblem cracked in the same place?! Mine was like that when I got the car that's crazy it's common 😅
Mine was like that when I got it also. Lol I made this video a long time ago, and just about 4 days ago, I had to change the headlight again. It actually blew about 6 months ago. I just now got around to doing it again, but this time, I took less of the bolts out and was still able to stretch the plastic and get the headlight out.
at least he is demonstrating how to DIY. of which we should be grateful, don't you think? rather than paying a couple hundred plus dollars to a garage? your comment is a yr old- i need bulbs replaced, i am betting my garage will charge around 300.00 at this point. oh, and let's not forget labor...and TAXES. :(
@@deborabump1618 I diy sweetie was looking for a guide, title was without removing bumper, watched video and he basically removed bumper that's why I commented, I don't pay for what I can do myself

Do not put me in the same room as the guy who designed this process
😆 lol
XD
It might not be terrible as you say, but my impala from the exact same year requires one bolt and 2.5 seconds😂
Brother you are a life saver thank you so much!!’ $150 to change this is straight up ROBBERY
I hope it helped.
🗣️HIGHWAY!!!!!

Yeah, I tried to smack on it before I took it apart even. but luckily since I've changed it, it's been doing just fine.
What's crazy is that the recall didn't even fix the problem. People's harnesses are still melting. I believe it's the daytime running light fuse.
Worked like a charm & saved a lot of time. Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching. I'm glad it helped. I know it wasn't the most detailed video but I figured it was enough to show somebody the basics and save money.
I know I’m going to be watching this video on repeat in a few days when I change mine 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿

How do you get the one bolt off to get the bumper off you did a great job aside from actually showing what you did and how you did it
It's ez. it's in front of the tire under the plastic wheel well
Thank Ya sir for the video! Love the setup👍👍🙏🐍
Thank you for watching, I hope it helped.

Thank you, man. I appreciate it!
Thanks buddy
How to replace the headlight with out taking off the bumper. Step 1, take off the bumper. 😂
Nope. Just half of it. Lol
Thankyou that helps a.lot. thanks for the video
I should open my own shop. What should have been a 30 minute job took four damn hours. 😂😂 still ain’t straight, but I was doing at least two hours in the dark.
I'm going to make this video again with more detail. because my light has quite again.

Always give the lens a smack before doing all that 9 times out of 10 it's a loss wire I have the same car
this is a big fu from GM to its customers 🤣🤣🤣

Why they don’t record themselves putting the bumper back on 🤦🏾♂️
I’m looking foursome who puts it back on 😂

Good thing he took a video of him taking it apart🤦♂️

I just changed 2 calipers 2 rotors and all the pads on my work car tonight. Gonna be sore for a week!!!!
I heard that. Save you some money at least. shops are getting ridiculous.
Technically he didn't take the bumper all the way off, but cmon you still have to 90% take the bumper off
like 60%
Exactly 😂

Thank you for this
Thanks for watching I hope it helped. I didn't get very detailed in the work but it was very simple is way better than paying a $150.
Don't know how to replace just the lens???
Pretty much the same way. Just take the lens out remove the bulbs and replace the lens.
