Yeah, but now that Nikon published the 100-400 and I really want that lens, I am not so sure if I still need 95mm. Damn :P

I just want to clarify again: I got these filters for free, but no money has gone one way or the other (This still has to be marked as ADVERTISEMENT). I am glad to finally have a good filter system for 95mm lenses. I hope you enjoyed this small insight on why to use NDs and the system.

Very interesting video, especially for beginners in wildlife filming. Thanks! Maybe at some point you can make a video to post-process your videos.

You mean like things I generally do to the footage I guess? Or also stuff I think about while vlogging in the field to make the product better?

@@GunnarDresler I meant the former. but the second also sounds very interesting.

It has crossed my mind before. I have some other ideas right now about tripods and getting clothing ready for fall weather. I did not get to it and this video here pushed me to finally start the format off, for good or bad :)

Interesting bit of kit Gunnar! I love the idea of magnetic filters in general, but I wonder how much you will actually use these ones in practical wildlife videography? I find that the depth of field is already so narrow with my wildlife telephotos that stopping down a bit makes hardly any difference in the rare cases that I'd need to do so to avoid clipping. I did in fact get a 95mm variable ND filter at some point for my 200-500mm and now 500mm PF, but realistically it has a very comfortable place in its storage box and basically never comes out of there! Having said that, variable ND for my wider lenses for vlogging / b-roll is a different story, and I wish mine were magnetic!

It totally depends. For photos I see a really narrow range, since moments happen so fast that you have to have planned a shot with an ND filter, like flying birds with long shutter or smooth water around a water bird. But basically everything I am filming in summer season needs this kind of filter at 24fps and I am glad to have one now. A lot of situation can just not be solved by higher frame rate and setting the shutter up, it just looks unnecessary long on resting animals. I nearly despise my older recordings where I only closed the aperture, but I might be hard on myself :D It was a bit hard to get the right material in these murky and shortening days right now.
For vlogging it is a must anyhow, but there I do not care if the ISO compensate in sudden darkness. The magnetic filter is just really useful for hybrid wildlife shooting.
      Cheers :)

@@GunnarDresler I think (actually I'm certain) that you are a much more diligent videographer than I am, so probably it is more noticable in your content if something breaks the 180deg shutter rule.. Anyway, as I said, I will be interested to see the results of you using these in some future vlogs :)

Thanks :) I hope to see some snow and mountains soon, there should be good opportunities :) I used my usual NISI on the 70-200 a lot on Dovrefjell last month.

Great review Gunnar as it happens I have a review on the same product coming out on Saturday. It is a great bit of kit and I’m really looking forward to using mine more. Particularly great for B roll and video although not so much obviously for photography as you said. Cheers Keith

What a coincidence :P Photos of that sort have to be a quite certain arrival of an animal, so you know that you going to need the filter, RIGHT NOW :D In every other case magnets are nice. Cheers

Good review but I'm unlikely to use it as I haven't really done anything in the way of video.
I suppose i should take some time to learn it though.

I got really into it when photography got a bit boring, these days I am a bit bored with video and focusing more on photos again :D It is an up and down. Always something to learn, but you do not have to start with this kind of filter to begin with. There are maybe smaller versions as well. I used a 77mm for a long time on everything from vlogging to filming with my 70-200 :) Thanks for tuning in, Robert
