Actually on this album Eddie and Michael are basically panned left and right. People over look many great rhythm sections but certainly notice when it isn’t played right by someone else.
Especially Mike. I can't think of another great rock bass player who gets as shafted as him in being recognized for how good they are. This song is a prime example of his groove, precision, and tasty lines that add to the overall sonic quality of the songs without being flashy and obnoxious.
Eddie Van Halen is my favourite guitarist - period. He'll always be number one on my list. Having said that, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony are stunningly underrated, and not just because of Eddie. They're also competing with the studio and stage presence of David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar. That's why I love these isolated tracks - you get to hear that solid foundation laid down by Alex and Michael.
WOW...Alex is so relaxed and in pocket...do not overplay, MA gets a killer tone...perfect bass player for this band...rock solid in every way! One of those iso tracks you can play alone driving and not miss a thing!
christopher dunn Yeah, Mikey could play really well. I think he could probably sing even better and had/has an even better voice but he could and can play pretty good!
The beef Ed had with Mike was personal not musical. There’s nothing Ed can play on bass that Mike can’t. In fact, Mike is a better bass player, which is different than playing guitar. That’s why Mike fits perfectly in between the brothers. Ed was one big hypocrite
@@Iknowthelaw13not necessarily true it was musical not personal. Ed’s beef was that Mike didn’t bring any song ideas to the band so much the Mike was stripped of his song writing credits in order to tour in 2004. Ed was right he didn’t bring any ideas to group like John Deacon or Entwistle but in Mike’s defense Ed wrote all the music I’m sure it was difficult to bring ideas to the band.
On these early records, Mike sat perfectly in the pocket but still played colorful enough riffs to make the rhythm section interesting. Instead of later on with Control Freak Eddie told him to stand behind a curtain and play one note the whole song. Once 5150 was built everybody slowly became puppets of Eddie, not equals. That's why the best VH music comes from the first four albums.
Bass is well played and sounds good . Drums are good as well . However Alex VH 's drums sound was always cardboard sounding . It had a dull flat tone .
Michael Anthony is one of the most underrated bassists ever. He was always buried in the mix under Eddie's guitar.
Mike is so underrated. He is a killer bass player. Actually blows most other rock bassists away.
Love this. Alex and Mike were one of the greatest rhythm sections in rock history.
I come back and listen to this about once a year. So rad.
It's amazing how funky this sounds. It's only because Ed is playing over it that they don't get the recognition they deserve.
yeah this fucking grooves, really

This should be my “walking around the neighbourhood” soundtrack.
Excellent livin' music.
I've been inspired by your comment

I miss these slight imperfections in music. It was so human back then. So groovy.
You can actually hear him smiling on this isolated track. Such a good-time swing
Wow! That´s amazing listen to the groove these two guys produced behind the guitar and vocals. It appears to be another song.!
the drums swing and the bass walks...
03:02 Listen to that 2002 24 inch ride sing!
MP Exactly👍
WOW What a sound! I love it!
...are you freakin' kidding with this???? Should be a lesson for ALL us rock bassists.
1;47 bass mistake ,,,i just listened to the song boy did they bury mikes bass or what
I heard it to!
Bass wasn't buried in the mix...they made it sit perfectly...
oh ya didn't noticed that but you can find plenty of eddie making mistakes as well listen to the beginning of romeo delight.
A good game show would be:
Contestants have to name the song from the bass and drums.
awesome
Bad-ass.
Ya i guess Ed was teaching him how to play like this with the video camera LOL.Like Sammy said mike is not doing one bass string to the song haha.

Very tight, very nice.
Mike A. Rocks!
What does it mean for a bassist to be "in the pocket"? Just listen to this.

One of my favorite drum parts, can you get just the drums?
I wanna hear isolated bass for eruption.
Here's the isolated drum track, watch?v=hM95b3LXUhU
His kit was recorded with mostly 57 s.
chris farley brought me here
Pretty sure Eddie is playing bass on this one
Mike was ok. Can you imagine the cacophony if Billy Sheehan was the bassist.

awesome
