    As a wrangler owner I also opted not to buy one. The extra weight and poor range after being modified makes it useless added complexity. If you’re going to keep it stock then I think it’s a good buy. For me my Jeep is off-road toy, i use a model 3 for around town commuting.

    I drove to my ford dealer to see if my maverick arrived. (42mpg truck)
    While looking the lot. I see an entire row of f150s. an entire row of lincoln SUVs and an entire row of Ford SUVs
    1 maverick. It was there for a day. My assumption is it was a special order like mine and the customer notified.
    Reminds me of 2006 when nobody wanted to buy SUVs because the winter was coming. (the recession)
    everyone still remembers $5.00 gas

      A lot of Ford dealers are trying to sell their trucks still with markups. They are no longer in short supply but apparently in certain states F-150’s come with $15,000 up charges. People aren’t willing to pay that.

    Stellantis has a choice to make. They can start building cars buyers want, or they can go bankrupt. Legacy auto has for years operated under the theory that they can build whatever they want, and if the customer doesn't like the offering, they don't have to buy. None of the automakers has ever asked the consumers what they want. They build it, we take it or leave it. Blueprint for eventual bankruptcy.

    Bad cold weather performance and lack of home charging bc many don't own property are 2 large barriers to ev market penetration. Ev ownership can be quite burdensome when you don't have home charging and or needing to drive distance in winter.

      There are plenty of people buying electric vehicles in Minnesota. Without a doubt, range and efficiency are reduced in cold weather but they still work fine. If you don't believe me, ask some Minnesotans /who actually own EVs/

    • @johnhoover7869
      @johnhoover7869 Год назад +1

      OK. A friend in Denver stated he and other Uber drivers had experienced 50% loss of range in snowy 20 degree weather. Perhaps that loss was due to other factors beside cold. Maybe poor traction creates higher losses w EVs vs. ICE.

    • @joe3276865536
      @joe3276865536 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@johnhoover7869 Three thoughts. First, some electric cars use heat pumps as heaters and others (especially older models) use resistance heat. The latter is much less efficient and that can mess with your range. Second, even a 50% loss of range is actually not a deal breaker for many people for daily usage--especially for people with second, gas-powered cars they can use for road trips. It never was a problem even for our old Leaf with a resistance heat and crappy 100 mile range. My wife's commute plus other driving simply never exceeded 50 miles. And of course, modern EVs have way more range than that. Third, there are /some/ people who have stupidly long commutes AND only have one car AND like to take road trips AND live in a charging desert. EVs are definitely not for them yet! But they are the exception.

    • @johnhoover7869
      @johnhoover7869 11 месяцев назад +1

      Completely understand heat pump vs resistant heating. My experience was w my Uber driving friend in Denver in March. The amount of time we spent at superchargers while daytriping caused exasperation in the whole group. The general consensus was the Tesla is great except for charging. The inability to charge at home was a serious and costly inconvenience. In the future I imagine more apartments will have level 2 charging. Home charging would obviously be far cheaper and more convenient than a gas station. My friend stated that standard Model 3s would drop below 100 miles range in cold and snow. A very unexpected result as he had to limp to a supercharger w no heat or defrost. Disclaimer I am definitely not anti EV. LOVE my EV scooter!

    Steallantis wants a $20k premium for the hybrid powertrain - no thanks. Then there is the dubious Chrysler/Stellantis quality (or lack thereof).
    7 years is along time and there is a rapidly developing supply chain for EV components in the US, so it does not seem like that heavy a lift.

    Thanks for this detailed research on what is going on in the US market. From the demand side it seems the USA is where Europe was about 4 or 5 years ago, some believing that PHEVs are 'the answer' before it sinks in that a BEV can do 100% of what 90% of people need from a vehicle. The supply side has not yet caught up (apart from Tesla) with where the market is going. In Europe Stellantis group sell mostly hatchbacks and crossovers and they're doing OK with those, though they are in danger of being eaten alive by the Chinese unless they bring their pricing into line with ICE cars. North America though is what?...Jeep, Dodge, RAM?...there's a challenge.

It was an amazing deal for me given how I use the van, but quality has been horrible, but they made good and right now the van is running great. Unbelievably, there are currently no new compact vans in the US for sale so even with the quality issues, the decision is proving to be brilliant while I hold and wait for options. I would trade for compact Ram Stallantis EV van without hesitation. Hoping Stallantis starts building these compact EV vans (like Fiat/Opel/Citroen/Peugeot) cheap in Mexico and getting them to the US customers ASAP. If the US is serious it needs to focus on EV infrastructure/standards, making EV trade/import possible/feasible and playing hardball with labor unions.

    California doesn't really have a law banning sales of EV's in 2035. It's an executive order than can and will be lifted since the volume of EV isn't there to support the demand, and frankly the infrastructure isn't there (especially in CA) to support the volume even if the raw materials to build that volume EV's was available

    The Opel division of Stellantis has several EVs that get good reviews - particularly the Mokka E. An easy solution would be to bring the Opel brand back to the US as an EV only brand. If they can muster the manufacturing capacity the cars would sell. Could be a relatively quick way for them to get EVs into dealers hands, but starting up a brand most people have never heard of (unless you are old like me) would be daunting.
    BTW my first car was a 1974 Opel Manta Rally in a fantastic lime green. The Mokka E has a very similar look and offers an updated metallic bright green that I would buy in a millisecond if they brought them here.

    Contrast between Stellantis US & Europe - They're making some decent small EVs; not cutting edge but reasonable range, passable tech and while not cheap, are reasonable VFM. My wife has a Vauxhall/Opel Corsa - E, £21.5k, she's getting 170-200 mile - not bad. The new Astra-E is Tesla 3 money though so a non-starter IMO.

    Build a full-size plug-in hybrid pickup with a 75 mile range battery, and get back to me. The vast majority of time, you can drive on electricity around town with a vehicle like that. However, when you need to go cross-country once in a while, NO RANGE ANXIETY and no fast charger hunting adventures!!
    Don't know why Ford, GM and Chrysler can't see this. This IS what the market wants, not a stupid EV pickup with a REALLY EXPENSIVE 400 mile range battery that drops down to 200 or so miles during cold winters.

Point: what do you think is going to happen to the price of $olar panel$? And remember, you have to replace these every 20 to 25 years, based on what I've read.

    Stellantis says, according to the article you cite, that they are shutting down production of the Cherokee because of the high cost of EV production. WHY ARE YOU AVOIDING THAT FACT? The real reason for stopping production is due to lack of sales. Sales of the Cherokee have been dropping since 2019 to abysmal numbers. The Cherokee being sold today was introduced in 2014, and Stellantis let it rot on the vine. The model is 9 years old without a major update. It is now outdated and old. This is why no one wants it. Of course Stellantis is going to shut this plant down in order to save money, especially since it is MORE EXPENSIVE (components) to build an EV. Stellantis needs the money. Dropping the Cherokee has NOTHING to do with it being gasoline powered. It's because it was ignored by Stellantis and is a 9 year old, dated vehicle. Remember, 95% of car sales are ICE powered.

You know those over the air updates everyone loves to tout... suppose you go to your garage to your freshly charged Tesla and, it doesn't start... nothing, no sign of life. So you pull out your phone to call for an uber and, wow, your phone is off, and no amount of pushing buttons turns it on. So you walk to your nearest cash machine and what??? no money!!!
    It's coming. Say the wrong thing, like the wrong tweet, piss off the wrong person -- "they" turn off your car, no more transportation for you. CBDC means "they" can shut down your bank account with ease. No money, no transportation. You're fooked. How you like your EV now? All that "convivence" of a direct central bank account, how you like that now? And you did to yourself. No amount of fore warning will make a difference. I don't know man, ICE vehicles still have a huge share in the market, and their market seems to fluctuate, it's not time for EVs to "completely overthrow" ICE yet, maybe in another 30 years... also- people want Jeeps because it's Jeep- they've been doing the best SUVs you can buy ICE or not for years, they're just that good lol. I used to praise Stellantis, now I don't- because their management is weird, it's not "EV or not" it's just, the constant lack of confidence and lack of motivation within their management, imagine being that low in your head, you own some of the best selling brands in the world, and yet you say "we can't do this". Chrysler as a whole has seen tougher situations, such as their bankruptcy in 1978, when Lee Iacocca took over, in just 3 years they were booming, it was the confidence and sheer power to fight that saved them. No one wants EVs rn, especially in the US. Sure, one or two or a few brands see positive sales, but to be truthful, people buy EVs because they're either forced to, or bribed to. I say, ask 100,000 Americans ((WITHOUT PAYING THEM TO SAY SOMETHING)) and see the results, ICE still has a lot of market, sorry but I'm just not convinced. Stellantis' issue isn't the lack of EVs, it's the stupid people running them.
