I was there during the film shoot , it was up in Sonoma/Napa CA.
The GTO and Firebird were rental props and engines were junk, and the commercials director had called in private party cars for the film shoot background which was a car lot with Pontiac classics. I was paid $500 to show up in my 1970 Trans am for a day and also received a full nose to tail body stripe painted onto the car, their cost.
The director needed sound takes for the passing scenes so we all asked to start our cars up , of course the 70 T/A RAIII sounds bad ass, and off I went to the highway blocked off by the California Highway Patrol to do several passes ,,,, I was instructed to where they had the recording equipment and the big foam pad mic thing set up to do redline shifts from second to third gear at that spot. Thru in a couple of line burnouts for good measure, because the Highway Patrol was excited too.
I did get in trouble for sitting in the chairs reserved for the commercial directors peeps. In the final car lot scene if you freeze frame behind the rear bumper on left you see the front of a blue T/A and a white shaker on hood.
On leaving, I was offered $10K cash for car the by one of the producers peeps, but made my way home with the car and $500 cash , big grin on my face , and I still have the 70 T/A to this day.

Thank you for the feedback. You folks know your Grand Am's! This is indeed a 1992, not a 1989, and I changed the title of this clip accordingly. Thank you!

The Grand Am in this commercial is a 95 GT sedan and there are a couple of obvious signs that it is. For one it has leather which was not available until 94. Also, the a GT with the 5 speed got the 180 HP High Output engine for 92-94. 95 Grand Ams got the 150 HP version.

It's a '95, he said 150hp. Trust me, I currently own a '95 GT sedan by the name of "Snow White"

Are you sure that's an 89' model? I'd swear that looks more like a model no later than a 92. I'm sure that 1989 was a different model that was around for at least 2yrs before it was redesigned for 1992.
