It seems like the other cars on the road were equipped with wireless modules that send data to the car you guys were in. I‘m just guessing though, because in the end you can see that the system doesn‘t recognize the parked bmw on the side of the road as car, it is traced by the lidar sensor of course but maybe not recognized as an „important object“.

BMW is calling this Level 1, 2 ,3, 4, etc instead of Beta 1,2, etc so people won't freak out. But it's mostly testing, updating and showing people its advances until final release. This is technology, nothing works perfect right off the bat, which is why they haven't released it yet until enough testing has been done, and they're also making the system updateable, so it can sync with the cloud, but it won't work off the cloud, cause that'd be really stupid. Updates will continue to polish the technology after release, as they gather more data
No tesla is bad than this car tesla is only lvl 2 self driving it means you must always be attentive but for lvl 4 which is this BMW you can do anything it will give you warning when it is needed suppose and accident happened in front of it etc lvl 4 are way advanced
