You’re better off using straps in the front on the wheels or a strap that has a cluster on it and use it where you put the safety chains. Although they’re called “safety chains” and you’re using them for their purpose, you’re still using the winch line as a tie down which shouldn’t be done. Using the adjustable straps in the front, you can loosen the winch cable and still keep the chains in the back tight.

Yessir, been using chains only since I started towing 4 years ago . I only use straps if I want the vehicle to be secured on the flatbed.
