That is Chris' wife Morgane singing with him. He suffered from stage fright and didn't think he had a particularly good singing voice, he viewed himself more as a songwriter and guitar player, and Morgane encouraged him to sing and perform and helps keep him centered and comfortable on stage. They have 5 kids, you see the chemistry between them.
Chris had been composing songs for other artists. He was later convinced to perform his own songs. He experiences extreme stage fright. The back up singer is his wife, who he frequently looks to for support/comfort.
The best one is him telling about writing and selling "Your Man". Then preforming his better, rockier version. "I wrote this one on Valenetines day. Bought me a HOUSE.".
No, no,no! He never, ever had stage fright. He & Morgan obviously love being on stage together but he was the lead singer in a couple bands before he ever met her.
I’ve watched many analyses and reactions of this performance and you are the only one I remember pointing out his tongue being out on that second run. 👏🏼👍🏾
I always love the fact that it's a husband/wife duo....she's his backup singer and you can see how proud she is of him....he writes all his own music which I think is awesome as well.
What sets this performance apart, for me at least are these like, flashes of passion, even a bit violent at times contrast so well with the message and feeling smoothness in the rest of the performance.
There's always that moment with this dude where... the critique of technique takes a back seat and you just hear the undergarments "FWOOMP!" to the force of gravity...
Fantastic rendition of an iconic song. I really love his interpretation and performance. I also really enjoyed your analysis and reaction which was accurate and so very spot on as always. Thanks for bringing this Jennifer... you're the BEST!
Thank you sooooo much for your breakdown of this vocal! I'm a fellow vocal nerd and love seeing reactions to beautiful vocals but to explain how its done is really helpful. So thanks again x
Knew you would have fun with this one! This live performance is just, well , like a good whiskey. 😉 The harmony is just perfect and he’s incredible. You mention the way he sang the “I” vowel. I haven’t looked for any interviews to check, but I’d be willing to bet he pronounces words like “night” and “high” etc with that same sound just in his normal speech. He’s from Kentucky so that would make sense. This song feels so natural in his voice. Fun to watch you watch him! Great job. ❤️
Yes, that's very much a Kentucky "i" (depending on where in Kentucky he's from). In Western Kentucky, it's almost an "ah" sound (I drive people crazy because I don't sound like a Kentuckian, even though I was born and raised there).
@@parkerbrown-nesbit1747 Chris Stapleton was born in Lexington, but raised in Staffordsville KY (just outside of Paintsville in Johnson County) deep in Eastern Kentucky coal country - his father was in fact a coal miner.
Thanks for another great reaction - this time to Chris Stapleton's performance of Tennessee Whiskey. As you're probably aware, the background track is very similar to the Etta James song - I'd Rather Go Blind. In fact (since I'm also a huge Angelina Jordan fan), you might be interested in a mashup that was made between Chis & Angelina - each singing sections of the 2 different songs to the same background track (whether or not you actually react to it). Thank you. And may GOD continue to watch over & bless both Chris & Angelina.
Another great reaction, Jennifer. It's so informative how you break down the vocals. This is a great song by Chris. There's an amazing mash-up with Chris Stapleton and Angelina Jordan doing " Tennessee Whiskey" and " I Rather Go Blind" together using Stapleton's soundtrack of Tennessee Whiskey. You would have fun reacting to this video, especially Angelina's vocal fry in the style of Etta James.
What a great reaction! I was curious how you'd breakdown his singing method as he seems to me to have such a unique voice. Excellent as usual, Jen! Looking forward to the next one.
If you like this live performance. You have to checkout and react to the live performance at the 2015 CMA Awards with Justin Timberlake. Just watching all the other country music celebrities having fun. It would be great to see Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake do a whole concert.
Great reaction! I believe the backup singer is his wife. You may want to listen the Cakra Khan cover of this sing. He is an established talented singer from Indonesia with a deep gravely voice and sounds very good.
Love your reactions!! You should definitely check out Sometimes I Cry live at the Bing Lounge by Chris Stapleton. It's just him and an acoustic and it's incredible
Welcome to Chris Stapleton, you are in for quite an experience. I suggest you listen to his live version of 'Sometimes I Cry', more MasterClass in using vocal cords to their fullest.
Another great reaction and analysis. Chris Stapleton is generally better live so pick his live performances over his studio versions whenever possible. The lady singing with him is his wife, Morgane. She frequently performs with him and is an amazing singer in her own right. He didn't actually start out as a singer but limited himself to songwriting. He has written and co-written over 170 songs, among them six number-one country songs, earning him nine ASCAP Country awards, including the Vanguard Award. His songs have been recorded by some of music's biggest stars, including Adele, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley. He has co-written songs with Vince Gill, Peter Frampton, Sheryl Crow, and Ed Sheeran, to name a few. He also wrote some songs for feature films, which are included on their respective soundtracks. In 2007, Chris Stapleton started as the frontman for the bluegrass band The SteelDrivers, which is how I first learned of him. In 2010, he started a Southern Rock band called The Jompson Brothers. In 2013 he started his solo career after being signed by Mercury Nashville. He surprisingly did not become an overnight success. However, He eventually did become well-known and has been unstoppable ever since. He has received numerous awards and nominations. He is the recipient of five Grammys, seven Academy of Country Music Awards, ten Country Music Association Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, and others. I would recommend his live performances of “Sometimes I Cry” at the Binge Lounge, his Austin City Limits performance of “I Was Wrong,” which showcases an awesome guitar solo, his impromptu cover of James Brown's “It's A Man's World,” his tribute performances to Prince and Aretha Franklin, any other live performance, as well as his music video "Fire Away." Be forewarned; the last one is a tear-jerker, no matter how tough you are. I would also highly recommend his performance of "Cold" at the 2021 CMA Awards and his cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters.”
Careful you will fall into that country rabbit hole. There is always room for more. Learned so much from your reaction thank you. Loved it. Time for some Home Free. Subscribed
What are you listening to Chris Stapleton he's had to listen to BB King Otis Redding and Ray Charles I can't remember but there's a lot of great that he has listened to you can hear it in all his voices and he is best live performances
Please checkout HammerFall - Hammer of Dawn or Dominion, im curious to see your thoughts on the singer! He got one of the coolest voices! he can go super high
While Chris didnt write this song I believe his is my favorite version. Another artist who did an amazing cover of this song and many others is Chris Klafford. I would love for you to react to his version of John Lennon's - Imagine ruclips.net/video/SAp3HrQG3PQ/видео.html
Chris is a fantastic performer. Great reaction. I would like to suggest another country blues artist, Marcus King. He is mostly thought of as a guitarist, but to me, his vocals are magnificent, with tons of grit and character. This live performance of his song "Wildflowers and Wine" is just he and his guitar, so nothing hiding what he is doing. ruclips.net/video/Bk1EtdXCDnY/видео.html
Great choice with Marcus King. :) I saw Chris Stapleton in concert last fall and Marcus was his opener. I'd never heard him before, but he is fantastic! I'd actually love to hear the two of them together, just to see what that would sound like - with Morgane, too, of course.
I love vocal coach reacts but i dont i like too much pausing ,i guess it is better to finish the video first before you react and replay those parts you want to emphasize to the viewers👌

I just love how they gaze at each other. Always nice to see people who truly love each other. 🌺✌️
That is his Wife on stage with him and she has a wonderful singing voice as well.
Morgan Stapleton is just as good as her husband Chris.
As a person who grew up in the southern US the “twang” is natural for us most people around here who sing have that natural twang.
This is one of my favorite songs and his voice is incredible. Very bluesy and twangy
Facts!!!!
Chris' vocal control is insane.
Chris Stapleton live at the CMA Awards Show “COLD” is a Must!!!
That performance gives me chills!

Morgane Stapleton sings harmony, which isn’t merely backup singing.
The best one is him telling about writing and selling "Your Man". Then preforming his better, rockier version.

Chris Stapleton does NOT have stage fright! Please stop spreading false, unfounded rumours!

dude just did the national anthem in the superbowl he dont have any stage fright anymore lol
Chris can turn I into a 10 syllable word.
LOL. Thing is you're not lying about that.
The duet with him and Justin Timberlake at the country music awards was transcendant. They did Tennesse Whiskey and Drink you away together.

He is a songwriter and he says whenever he does a live performance it's never the same from day to day
Can't believe no one's recommended his live performance of "Barely Alive." It's an experience.
The lady that singing the background is his wife and if you look at the interaction between the two while singing you will see something very special
