  • Stirling engine - Explained and animated 3d
    A Stirling engine is a heat engine that operates by cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas (the working fluid) at different temperatures, such that there is a net conversion of heat energy to mechanical work.

    Wow, the animation and explanation are way off! The power piston and cylinder are on top. The big disk in the bottom is the displacer, which does not generate power, but simply moves the air between the hot plate (bottom) and cold plate (top). When most of the air is on top, the air cools, causing the pressure to drop, pulling the power piston down. This raises the displacer, causing the air to move down to the hot plate. The air heats up and expands, pushing the power piston up. The power piston and displacer are out of phase because it takes a bit of time for the heat to flow in and out of the air., as well as inertia effects.

      🔴 What Is Islam? ⚠️
      🔴 Islam is not just another religion.
      🔵 It is the same message preached by Moses, Jesus and Abraham.
      🔴 Islam literally means ‘submission to God’ and it teaches us to have a direct relationship with God.
      🔵 It reminds us that since God created us, no one should be worshipped except God alone.
      🔴 It also teaches that God is nothing like a human being or like anything that we can imagine.
      🌍 The concept of God is summarized in the Quran as:
      📖 { “Say, He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He does not give birth, nor was He born, and there is nothing like Him.”} (Quran 112:1-4)[4] 📚
      🔴 Becoming a Muslim is not turning your back to Jesus.
      🔵 Rather it’s going back to the original teachings of Jesus and obeying him.

    Have you ever seen how to keep jars? When the inside of the hot jar begins to cool down, the cap collapses down. It is simply sucked down because the pressure decreases (the gas cools down). In your video, the gas is constantly warm from below (error!), The piston pressing (and thus cooling) the cold gas should be shown in the lower position, when the DIPLACER is in the upper. The cold gas sinks to the bottom of the cylinder and draws in the DISPLACER again

    Viewers who don't understand the concept will have a hard time translating the mechanical timing without the mention that Momentum of the FLYWHEEL has to drive the motor through a "Stagnant period" in which there is no pressure or vacuum on the green piston. a more efficient stirling (Electronic Stirling Engine) would suddenly SNAP the displacer from hot side to cold side, effectively eliminating the "Stagnant period"

    Unfortunately I think this video does not explain how the Stirling engine works. I would advise jordi3736 to remove it or remake it using my analysis of how the Stirling engine works that rick57hart also presents below in the comments.
    The cycle begins when the displacer is in the upper part of the cylinder. The air below the displacer is heated and therefore expands pushing or squeezing up past the displacer that is not in an airtight fit with the cylinder and pushes on the diaphragm or piston causing the crankshaft to turn turning the flywheel. This is where the energy comes by converting the heat energy in say the flame at the base of the engine into the mechanical motion of the flywheel. Then as the flywheel begins to turn the displacer travels downwards leaving a space above the displacer filled with the cooler air. The engine continues to turn over such that the displacer now heads back up towards the diaphragm or piston pushing the cooler air back down into the space below the displacer where it heated again and the whole cycle repeats itself.
    I had to watch the first minute and twenty five seconds of this video:
    ruclips.net/video/FCjYZT6FJm4/видео.html
    many times but I got there in the end when in this video the presenter is talking too quickly for me.

    The only wrong things about this video is that the displacer should have a little clearance at the bottom so the air heats up... The displacer is not doing useful work, it's just moving the air inside the chamber from hot to cold to expand and contract. When it says "Expansion gas"in the video, it should actually be contraction because the total volume of the chamber still contracts if you carefully look at the power piston( that still comes down a quarter of a turn). When it says "Transferring hot gas" it actually transfers the cold one into the warm region in order to be heated (because the displacer is moving up..), and so on...
    Apart from the writing, the animation is very accurate though.

  • @rick57hart
    @rick57hart 7 лет назад +6

    The animation is good, but the explanation is wrong. I'm afraid, that the author did not really understand this machine. 1. The yellow piston can not work, because it is not tight - the air flows around it. 2. In the beginning, there is no air under it - so what should expand? Only the green piston is able to work. The yellow piston is moved by crankshaft, piston rod and flywheel.

    • @Mephistahpheles
      @Mephistahpheles 7 лет назад

      1. "the air flows around it" The air MUST flow around it. The heated air (near the bottom) flows up, past the yellow cylinder. The volume inside the can increases, forcing the green piston upwards....driving the machine.
      2. The crank shaft then allows the yellow piston to descend, forcing more air to the top (again, PAST the sides of the yellow piston), resulting in less air being heated. Total volume decreases and the green piston descends.
      The key point is that the yellow piston is "floating" (the connection to the crank shaft is usually something like a thread). It doesn't drive the machine, it simply displaces the air so that it's primarily close to, or far from, the heat source.
      Presumably, if you engineered your engine precisely, then the yellow piston could have a rigid attachment.

    • @rick57hart
      @rick57hart 7 лет назад +3

      That is exactly what i said. But the explanation says, that the expanding hot air would move the displacer(yellow piston) upwards. But, that is wrong. It would be better, if he animation would start with the displacer at its top position. Then it would be clear: there is hot air below it. As next the displacer is pressed down by the piston rod. Now the hot air over it cools down, its volume contracts, and the green piston gets sucked down (is working). As next, the displacer gets lifted up by the piston rod. Now the cool air is moved to the hot bottom, heats up, expands and this moves the green piston upwards(work). The green piston is only reacting to the total volume, not to the movement of the displacer. The movement of the displacer does not bring power to the crankshaft - the opposite is right: It costs power to move the displacer up and down. The displacer is functioning, but is not working, it is not transferring work to the crankshaft.

  • @TheOldGuy2000
    @TheOldGuy2000 2 года назад

    This explanation is wrong. The large piston looking thing just moves air around (thus the name displacer). It is not a piston and does not compress the gas. Contraction occurs when hot air moves to top of bottom vessel and it is cooled by the cold upper surface. This contracts the air volume and pulls down the little piston (the thing on top). The contraction volume must be less than or equal to the air in this piston. This system is completely closed.

    I see a lot potential for improvements: The housing, and also the yellow piston will lead heat to the cold side. So, the hot side and the cold side should be separated as far as possible. Maybe it would be the best, to have a hot housing and a separated cold housing. The yellow piston should be made from a bad heat conducting material. It, and also the cylinder should be much higher. The losses of heat(energy) should be minimized.

    • @haroldwestrich3312

      Rick57hart I agree that the explanation is not all that good but I have studied and built stirling engines for about three years and designed an electronic stirling engine. THIS animation is GREAT!!! you have made it clear that you do not know how Stirling engines work. Your point about the yellow piston not fitting tight enough is precisely why it DOES work. NOTE; the yellow piston is not a drive piston, it is a DISPLACER PISTON! it only moves the air from the hot surface to the cold surface. Your point about the Yellow piston being made of insulating material is RIGHT ON _ it is usually made of styrofoam or wood or some non conducting material for exactly the reason you said. I suggest you keep watching Stirling engine videos until you get the concept. Here is a hint. NO AIR GOES IN OR OUT OF THIS ENGINE the air only becomes hot or cold supplying pressure or vacuum to the GREEN piston. Hope you get it because it is truly an amazing engine concept! ! !

    'Cold air'? From where? The air above the big disc? That will get HOT if it's being compressed.. and That happens ONLY if the disc is sealed.. but your isn't sealed so then it WONT rise.. because there ISN'T ANY PRESSURE to raise the disc. NOT sealed means the HOT air will just circulate all around the sides of the big disc.
    You have NO idea what your trying to explain.
