    For me, the Borla is just right! I want a low tone, not loud, going on my daily driver Sequoia. Flowmaster belongs on like an old truck or muscle car (IMO)

    Borla Pro XS dual in dual out. Convert from the stock 2 1/4” pipes to 2 1/2” pipes with Borla tips. You won’t be disappointed.

    Thanks. This helped me narrow my choices. I have a 2020 Tundra and just got my magnaflow mufflers delivered yesterday (went with 2 single in, single out, for dual exhaust). I'll get those installed sometime this week.

    I have the Pro XS on my 19 Tundra and it was a little tame at first (I was coming from a mustang GT with aftermarket exhaust though), but it didnt take long to open up and it's continued to do so. It's been on there 2.5 years now and sounds fantastic. Nice loud startup, deep idle, and growling acceleration. There is some drone, but no one's ever complained about it. I believe the one I bought was a single muffler, dual 3" in/out. . The pipe from the muffler to the rear is 2" because they were out of 2.5" that day. I had them put two pipes straight out the back, and gave them 3.5" tips 18" long. I was afraid the small pipe would be an issue, but it really sounds exactly like I wanted. $125 for the muffler, 60 for the tips, and 100 for the pipes and install, and a great sounding catback for under 300 bucks.

    Sound is subjective. The less muffler you have, the more raspy/flappy it gets. That muffler you put on is a straight through design. It will allow best flow when needed. The muffler did it's job at reducing the popping/crackle/raspy sounds.
    Since this is still running factory headers to a single outlet, the rumble/ tone is like all others, just more or less raspy.

    Try a 14" muffler. The shop I went to suggested 14" muffler, I went with a MagnaFlow (12198), since Tundra's come with 4 cats. Not too loud but very noticeable versus stock.

  • @aegan8329
    @aegan8329 2 года назад +1

    I bet these tundras would wake up a little more sound if you got rid of the secondary cats. They’re after the o2 sensor so it shouldn’t make any difference or throw a code. Would make that quiet muffler a little less disappointing

  • @greenman7yyy
    @greenman7yyy 7 месяцев назад

    The muffler you clearly want is a Borla XR1. Be careful though, they sell a XR1 called Sportsman, NOT THAT.
    The ProXs sounds just like your video, XR1 is also pretty quiet when driving but when on the gas pedal...sounds like a dragster!! Ironically, I've never bought an exhaust fir the way it sounds. I had to learn to buy stainless steel and was lucky that the first company i trued was Borla.
    If you build a performance engibe fir your auto, the only exgaust guaranteed toflow better than strait tubbing is a Borla XR1 (now additionally called multi-chambered).

    I have dual borla’s on the rear of my Volvo wagon project I’m using the “boomer thumper” about $200 each and the sound godly but man they can get loud if your on them without a center resonator/muffler. Currently I’m running an undersized center muffler from vibrant, little “ultra quiet” series.. it did help tame my exhaust down from way to loud to just kinda loud on long drives it gets to annoying, around town it’s incredibly fun though. but I’m still working out which center muffler I need.
    My thoughts on what I may do for my center muffler to keep it quiet but also allow it to make some minor aggressive noises is replace the undersized one I put in with either dual inlet single outlet Borla pro Xs like in this video but going with 2.5 inch instead of 3.0 to hopefully keep some noise because larger area inside = larger sound absorbing properties so little smaller = more exhaust sounds pass though before get absorbed or getting single in and out offset pro XS but in 3.0 inch to compensate for single pipe and hope doesn’t get loud with long drives or is too quiet and sounds like a vacuum.
    Speaking of vacuums, the pro XS with dual in and outlets and Internal x-pipe, if your looking for quiet, using that as your center pipe is great, I did try that, using that as my center connecting them to my rear mufflers and way too quiet.. I think because it evens out the pulsation with that internal X pipe design. But you need to pair that with a rear muffler if you use that center muffler with internal X pipe because without it it’s still going to reveal noises it just evens out pulsation of the engine. But I figured I put that out there because I learned that there defiantly is some people who want high end exhaust that sounds really quiet they just want brand and the looks I guess.

    so i checked the part number and the outlet in this muffler is very small 2.25 which is why you probably barely noticed any change… i think the 2.5 “ outlet would’ve worked better or the 3” outlet if you actually want to be loud

      Can’t speak for your car or truck, but flowmaster for me on my Volvo wagon project, flowmaster turned out to be dronemaster
      I’m not exhaust designer or professional so maybe my installation wasn’t great for my car/layout but same layout with borla Boomer Thumpers as my rear mufflers sounded a bit better (to my ear atleast) and droned a lot less in the cabin…though defiantly still drones after a while… not nearly as bad.

      Yes, he put the muffler on backwards. There aren't any louvers in it, so it shouldn't have an impact, but not using it as recommended.

    • @JLeeChron
      @JLeeChron  3 года назад +1

      Yeah not happy with the Borla. The reputation is supposed to be high quality. Didn’t notice a substantial power loss, but the feel and sound isn’t what I would like.
      I may go back to the Flowmaster had on the ‘19

  • @frankolvera1337

    You don’t think it had to do with the dual in single out??

    • @JLeeChron
      @JLeeChron  2 года назад +1

      Regarding why the Borla sound was weak?-
      I don’t think it was because the Flowmaster sounded better -louder and lower - it was shorter and slimmer than the Borla.

    • @frankolvera1337
      @frankolvera1337 2 года назад

      Flow masters are always more aggressive. More drone and stuff. I got flowmasters. I just don’t understand why do dual in and single out. Don’t you lose power or efficiency?

    • @be891
      @be891 Год назад

      You will not lose any power going from a dual in single out on a straight through design. That muffler could support about a 1000hp without experience power loss. Dual in and dual out straight through mufflers will give the truck a softer bottom end (loss of low end torque). As previously stated small exhaust pipe will reduce the exhaust note.

      What applies to one car or truck layout won’t apply to another… saying one brand is better than another without saying anything objective is sort of meaningless fanboying.
      I mean I personally like borla the best but that comes from the fact that the magma flow and flowmaster mufflers I tried first basically made interior of my wagon more unpleasant of a place to be than a North Korean prison camp, deafening levels of drone and actually vibrated part of my cabin loose I had to replace a few bits of trim so wouldn’t rattle or squeak after I replaced those mufflers with the borla’s I’m running now..
