I'm not a young adult anymore so my opinion likely doesn't count, but it is that this brief description makes the book sound way more interesting than it is.
I am so intrigued by the plot!!!
But I mean, I've always regard characters in each book as "the chosen one". Whether or not they have a certain supernatural status, magical power or fantastical destiny/mission.
It doesn't matter if the characters were chosen by the author, but rather chosen by the readers themselves.

I read this whole book a few weeks after I got it for my 17th birthday. Needless to say...The Rest of Us Just Live Here feels just like Shark Tale in a way. The plot was hard to follow, but I get the feeling that it was disappointingly boring for the same reasons as Shark Tale. Nothing about Shark Tale's gangster story would change if it was not set underwater, and I believe that is also true for The Rest of Us Just Live Here if it didn't have any supernatural creatures in it. It doesn't know how to make vampires and werewolves integral to the story of the kids who are not the chosen one. April 5, 2020, 9:46pm
