    I love how she was just talking with honesty and not trying to make the whole thing a 'bit'. I actually really enjoyed the raw thoughts and insights.

    I’m glad she shared how she was 47 when she finally “made it”. I think ageism is far too prevalent, and we should be more open to “late bloomers” and second chances types and not just so stuck on “30 under 30” kind of lists etc.

    • @snicker576
      @snicker576 2 года назад +1

      Well, to be fair, the reason she made it in such recent times is because of the current leftist culture embracing people like her to improve visibility of minorities. I'm happy for her, but her success definitely isn't just due to humor or talent, if we're gonna be honest here

    • @mercster
      @mercster 2 года назад +4

      It's still extremely rare, and the older you get the harder it gets. This is not an excuse, as a young person, to "lIvE YoUr bEsT lIfE" wasting away years until you become 30, and then trying to do something "serious." Start now, trust me.

    • @mercster
      @mercster 2 года назад

      Also anyone is "open" to late bloomers, you're acting like there's some kind of active discrimination. There are good reasons for picking a young person over an older person in many technical fields, for instance. Their brains can absorb information more quickly, it's easier for them to switch contexts, etc. I say this as a 45 year old former IT guy who isn't near as sharp as he used to be. If I apply for a job and someone with my exact skillset, but 20 years younger also applies... picking the other guy is just common sense. Current culture needs to get over the fact that life is rarely "fair", and everytime something unfortunate happens, it's not an "iNjUsTiCe."

      @@mercster Leslie started when she was under 30 yet kept 'grinding' until she was on SNL. Do not let the World define you at age 30 x!

      @@anonamouse.p4115 The world doesn't define anyone at age 30. If you haven't figured out how to be a useful member of society at ANY point, it is that person's fault. Noone elses. Noone is guaranteed success in this life. You barely look a day older than 20 yourself, are you sure the world is secretly conspiring to keep people over 30 from flourishing?

    I love how this really made it sound like a mini (yet not generic enough) blueprint for comedic success. And really this could apply to success beyond Comedy because I like how everything revolved around gaining life experience.

    I always felt that Leslie was underutilized on SNL. And when she talked about having to find jokes that fit you, that's exactly true. The writers apparently weren't working with her to fit jokes and skits around Leslie. Its like she was there just because she was a black woman and they could check off a box. However, she is a strong black woman that shouldn't be type casted. She is down to earth and relatable. That's one of her charms.

    • @Spidido
      @Spidido 2 года назад +3

      She is a black woman. That should be enough to live a life of fulfillment and dignity. Leave the 'strong' out of it. It is causing more issues than its worth.

    Chapelle asked Trevor Noah to be his opener on a major tour. Trevor said yeah, but - why me? "Lots of people can be funny. Very few people are genuinely interesting, You're interesting, I can't teach anyone how to be interesting, but I could teach an interesting person to be funny. Interesting is the commodity, not funny."
    I found Leslie so intriguing from the first moment I saw her. She is interesting. She's very smart, far more self-aware than most, doesn't have much of an ego - I love how full of passion and curiousity she is.

    • @gsw6456
      @gsw6456 2 года назад +1

      Yeah that all makes sense.. I’m just saying you can’t say he was better than her at that point only because of life experience. I’m sure that’s what she needed.. But if he’s a year younger there’s no way he can point to life experience as the reason for him having a better act than her. By that logic she should have been better because she’s older. He might’ve had more experience with comedy but not in life.. I agree with his advice, it just wouldn’t make sense as an explanation for why he was better than her at that point. I’m sure he had natural talent and just cultivated it and educated himself in the world of comedy at a younger age, but he wouldn’t’ve had more experience in life than her.

    I don't mean to be cruel or disrespectful, because I'm sure Leslie is a sweet person in real life. But unfortunately, the truth is that her "black woman who cusses a lot" sense of comedy is a stereotype that even black people find annoying. I believe the only reason she lasted so long on SNL was because of the entire Milo/Twitter trolling scandal. While I thought Milo was immature and mean-spirited in his tweets regarding Leslie, I have to say that I agree with the point he was making - she's not funny.
