I love how she was just talking with honesty and not trying to make the whole thing a 'bit'. I actually really enjoyed the raw thoughts and insights.
I’m glad she shared how she was 47 when she finally “made it”. I think ageism is far too prevalent, and we should be more open to “late bloomers” and second chances types and not just so stuck on “30 under 30” kind of lists etc.
Well, to be fair, the reason she made it in such recent times is because of the current leftist culture embracing people like her to improve visibility of minorities. I'm happy for her, but her success definitely isn't just due to humor or talent, if we're gonna be honest here
It's still extremely rare, and the older you get the harder it gets. This is not an excuse, as a young person, to "lIvE YoUr bEsT lIfE" wasting away years until you become 30, and then trying to do something "serious." Start now, trust me.
Also anyone is "open" to late bloomers, you're acting like there's some kind of active discrimination. There are good reasons for picking a young person over an older person in many technical fields, for instance. Their brains can absorb information more quickly, it's easier for them to switch contexts, etc. I say this as a 45 year old former IT guy who isn't near as sharp as he used to be. If I apply for a job and someone with my exact skillset, but 20 years younger also applies... picking the other guy is just common sense. Current culture needs to get over the fact that life is rarely "fair", and everytime something unfortunate happens, it's not an "iNjUsTiCe."
@@mercster Leslie started when she was under 30 yet kept 'grinding' until she was on SNL. Do not let the World define you at age 30 x!
@@anonamouse.p4115 The world doesn't define anyone at age 30. If you haven't figured out how to be a useful member of society at ANY point, it is that person's fault. Noone elses. Noone is guaranteed success in this life. You barely look a day older than 20 yourself, are you sure the world is secretly conspiring to keep people over 30 from flourishing?
I love how this really made it sound like a mini (yet not generic enough) blueprint for comedic success. And really this could apply to success beyond Comedy because I like how everything revolved around gaining life experience.
I always felt that Leslie was underutilized on SNL. And when she talked about having to find jokes that fit you, that's exactly true. The writers apparently weren't working with her to fit jokes and skits around Leslie. Its like she was there just because she was a black woman and they could check off a box. However, she is a strong black woman that shouldn't be type casted. She is down to earth and relatable. That's one of her charms.
She is a black woman. That should be enough to live a life of fulfillment and dignity. Leave the 'strong' out of it. It is causing more issues than its worth.
I feel like they finally got it right on her last season, or almost, but that's when she left unfortunately. Wasted potential definitely, and the over critical haters didn't help either.
Chapelle asked Trevor Noah to be his opener on a major tour. Trevor said yeah, but - why me? "Lots of people can be funny. Very few people are genuinely interesting, You're interesting, I can't teach anyone how to be interesting, but I could teach an interesting person to be funny. Interesting is the commodity, not funny."
I found Leslie so intriguing from the first moment I saw her. She is interesting. She's very smart, far more self-aware than most, doesn't have much of an ego - I love how full of passion and curiousity she is.
Leslie's an inspiration. Really cool to hear her story more.
Such a great episodes, conversations like these are why the podcast format is so good for Conan
I love hearing her story! She is truly amazing, and this interview has inspired me to keep going after my dreams ❤
Good For You!! : )
Jamie Foxx might be the most talented American at this time. He is the best. Leslie is damn cool, too. I just want to hang around them and feel the cool
Too bad none of his talent rubbed off on her.
@@ChirpyMike too bad your life sucks and you have to rip on other people.
Loved this interview & hearing Leslie’s backstory ❤️
I'm not a big fan of her comedy personally, but she is genuine and the fact that she admits not really making it until she was 47 with her passion is inspiring.
I love this!!! Conan and Leslie have such an interesting/hilarious dynamic. More please!
I Love Leslie Jones' Performances. I Think She's Hilarious!!!
This woman is a true gem! Love youuu Leslie ❤
I love her and love to hear her story is amazing
I struggle with not being able to ignore the fact that I am not as good as someone else who does what I want to do. I always respect people who are able to ignore that and build incredible careers despite all that noise.
Practice Practice Practice Practice. That's what makes People who are "Good" seem like it is Effortless for them. Have You Ever Been To A Ballet?? I love how Sona looked so focus on her stories. She was paying a lot of attention. I can imagine she has given more attention and focus to what Leslie's saying than all the years she's worked with good ol' Bonin O'Cryin'.
She’s awesome!
Great interview with Leslie. From college to mature adult, I want to stick it out for the long haul with my projects too.
Very helpful and insightful!
One of my favorite podcasts interviews. Leslie and Conan are very different but also so similar.
Her dress/blouse really looks great on her…
Came here to say this. Perfect shape and colour for her. She looks great.
Leslie Jones would have been an amazing lawyer as well.
Never really seen any videos of her before but damn she is funny.
Awesome story 👏🏼
Love the look on Sonas face, completely in awe
where can I see the full video??? I love to watch them instead of just listening
Sometimes to hype myself, I imagine I am in this podcast and Conan insults the crap out of me.
Humbly, I’m really funny and I’ve felt this. I only assume that people around me think I’m funny. The communication class is how I know I’m not ready. I can’t stand in front of a crowd that for any amount of time
Love and miss you Leslie!
He's amazing!
So are Conan and Jamie Foxx.
He?
@@EMVelez Yeah, the Ghostbusters dude.
@@Revelian1982 That’s not a man 🙄🙄
@@EMVelez Were they born a man?
@@Revelian1982 Lol. NO.
I like her a lot. She got surrounded with a bunch of crap, and I don't agree with everything she's said and done over time. But she is a great entertainer. Thanks for having her on.
Couldn't do CS cuz couldn't pass microeconomics? Uhhh...
Imagine being able to go to college, and you settle on "I wanna be a DJ."
♡
👍🏻
wow crazy how did she jump from computer engineering to microeconomics?
good video.
I could see Leslie being a vet DJ
*gets into college at 18-19*
"What do you want to BE?" (As in, like, for the rest of your whole entire life...)
Leslie Jones is like the Jimi of sketch comedy. And if you don’t agree, you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t think she was funny. #lesliejonesisfunny.
Sona: 🧐
*Just dont need to cuss*
I'm guessing from the look on Conan's face, that he isn't a huge fan of playing the F-word on repeat.
Industry plant. Easy.
it would have been really funny if Jamie told her to quit
But he didnt, so....
Jamie Foxx is a year younger than her, so how was his advice to get life experience? She’s older than him, how could he have more experience than her at that point?
You don't need to be older than the person to be more experienced or at least understand they need more experience.
quantity does not always equal quality.
Yeah that all makes sense.. I’m just saying you can’t say he was better than her at that point only because of life experience. I’m sure that’s what she needed.. But if he’s a year younger there’s no way he can point to life experience as the reason for him having a better act than her. By that logic she should have been better because she’s older. He might’ve had more experience with comedy but not in life.. I agree with his advice, it just wouldn’t make sense as an explanation for why he was better than her at that point. I’m sure he had natural talent and just cultivated it and educated himself in the world of comedy at a younger age, but he wouldn’t’ve had more experience in life than her.
It's just a one-year difference. For all we know, Jamie could've been doing much more than Leslie at the time. He could've been more outgoing, maybe he knew more people, had more conversations. They likely had completely different lifestyles.
Doing more yields more experience.
I don't mean to be cruel or disrespectful, because I'm sure Leslie is a sweet person in real life. But unfortunately, the truth is that her "black woman who cusses a lot" sense of comedy is a stereotype that even black people find annoying. I believe the only reason she lasted so long on SNL was because of the entire Milo/Twitter trolling scandal. While I thought Milo was immature and mean-spirited in his tweets regarding Leslie, I have to say that I agree with the point he was making - she's not funny.
Why yall acting so holy about cussing in these comments???? All these potty mouf comedians, but suddenly Leslie is thee worst foul mouth of them all. It's giving anti black. Foh
@@Ray-pp5qb I never said nothing like that bro. It's all good man, if you don't understand what I was sayin about her not being funny then you must be one of them corny dudes who think cussin in every sentence is funny too. Matter of fact I knew you were corny as hell after you said "It's giving anti black". If that's how you really feel, then take your ignorant ass up to one of Leslie's shows and stay off my thread homie.
Hey Leslie swear more. 20% and you're a certified fucken Dock worker.
Oh, THAT'S why her comedy specials are so popular...oh wait..
zing
Take two weeks off, then quit.
Here’s the best advice for her. Don’t do it. You’re not funny.
Yeah? let's see your 'tight five' set. Let's see what you got.
@@DanJackson1977 Why would I have to do it Danny?
Thank god you’re not the arbiter of what’s funny
@@classictalkies there is no such thing, but she’s about as funny as a prolapsed hemorrhoid.
Now Conan is pretending this person is funny??? At least she knows she shouldn't have been accepted to college...
I dont find her funny at all...
doesn't matter. other people. hence, why she's where you're not.
@@brooklynebony so you attack me to defend someone you dont know :P, I didnt even insulted her I said I find her unfunny and you took it personal, i hope you are like 12 years old
Being loud and obnoxious doesn't make you funny. Some black comedians think differently. Get real
If it ain’t your thing, keep scrolling.
That’s a man right? The voice is confusing me haha
Cringe af 🤢
Hi Jay
didnt seem to help
I remember her as Big Les back in her early days! She was funny and did not gaf, like we know her!
