This movie really feels like Miyazakis final goodbye.... The realization at the end, that there is no heir to the old men ( Miyazaki himself ) ...

Yea I made that connection too! I think that's why I love the great collapse so much. Thanks for commenting 🙌🏻

Watched a wonderful take on the movie, where it described the protagonist as a representation of his ‘audience’ over the decades. Essentially as ‘Us’. The realisation left me in tears.

I guess you can say that in a way. What I got out of it was:
There'll at least be some sort of someone to take at least a building block from your works. Whether it'll for their own stories, improvements, innovations, applications, desires, its up to them to decide.
There'll alway at least be a person to take something away and figure out what they should do with it.

@@jaredf.6532 that is a really intriguing take on the ending! Even though miyozaki is finished making movies we are all able to take different things away from it.

I’ve only just finished seeing it and dear god you’re all right. You’re all so right. The little nods to things he’s passionate about I can’t believe I didn’t realise it sooner. Those plane canopies are for aircraft which is one of his great loves and here they are in a film that has nothing to do with aircraft. It really is all his final way of saying goodbye, to us, to his passion for animation, to his love of aviation to it all. It’s all one big metaphor, god that makes this film so much better and it was already good.

I like the great collapse so much but the original is so short. Thank you for making this extended version.

Pero como esta obra maestra no está nominado al Oscar?? Es la banda sonora mas ecléctica de Joe de toda su carrera, no digo que se merezca el Oscar o no, pero mínimo merecía estar nominado, es una obra maestra!!!

I'm going to say this, and please don't be mad at me.
The soundtrack doesn't live up to the story.

@@ezzaxxh heck, english isn't my first language, so I'm bad at describing it.
The story feels very loose, the world isn't very well built, the motivation of no character is revealed, except maybe the one of the grand uncle.

@@kensukefan47 Mh for me, I think the motivations of the key characters are all really well presented - through their behavior and actions. Naturally Mahito and his family members are the most obvious/clearly presented.
But I also just saw the movie for the 2nd time in the cinema. That certainly helps.
I also got one step closer to the core interpretation I think. Simply incredible. I was again brought to tears multiple times.

I'm not mad at you. We are all free to like or dislike a movie for various reasons. I have a friend who doesn't like "Lord of the Rings"and "Harry Potter". I'm not a fan of her favorite movies ( mostly romcom) . We are still friends and mocking each other with our taste in movies.
Have a great time wherever you are. 👋
