Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the RUclips music library
this entire hobby has got to be the most quintessentially british activity to ever exist.
Sometimes I play your videos to calm down before sleep. Something about your narration, scenery and the sound of the diesel tapper put me right at ease.
Yilmaz Arda same with me I find them so relaxing
I absolutely love how you include things that don’t go according to plan. Thank you 👍
continues to be my favourite channel....Top notch.
Excellent; thank you.
9:20 The rare CtC video that has you spitting out your tea & Digestives and swiftly purchasing tickets for the next "We love the 90s" local eurodance event
Keep up the good work David! A very enjoyable Sunday evening watch :)
Thanks Ronnie!
14 mins of bliss... : ) Thanks David, your a great chap!
Haha, thank you!
I came back, I forgot to thumbs up... : )
I am constantly amazed at your canal system and all of the locks required. Simply amazing!
I only just found out you can pretty much transit the whole country south to north, east to west via the canals. An amazing system
Bangin choons at 9:19..! I'm totally with you on the single handing though of course, closing those lock gates can be an absolute pain, always a sigh of relief when another boat is approaching the other way.
Darn right. Always bangin choons on my boat ;-)
I do like it where you speed up the action on the repetitive sections like the staircase series of locks on this section. You make the entire Blog a pleasure to watch.
Rewatching this in Janury 2021 and enjoying the sight of the sun and calm.
You did a great job even though the boat didn't cooperate. Another great adventure! Thanks for taking us along with you. You are living out a wonderful dream and letting us share it with you.
Thanks Darlene!
Another great vlog,David. And good on you for showing when things go wrong due to your mistakes. Plenty of others would have left those parts out.
The only people that don't make mistakes, never do anything.
I like that slogan - cheers!
Those locks are a lot of work, but it seems worth it for the scenery, and for facilities you eventually made it to.
Thanks for taking us along.
Cheers
I’m really enjoying the vlogs, 98 down 113 to go. Big fan of fast forward lock footage with music along with your excellent voice overs!
I'm glad there's so many as I've grown weary of TV and prefer these slow paced, quiet video's.
Never mind the messing up at the lock. It's only gone viral on the internet. Another lovely jourmey. Great video. your commentary was superb
Wouldn't be a Sunday night here in Thailand without a relaxing ep of canal life!
Hello Thailand!
Lovely filming as always & you made me laugh out loud with that fine wit of yours so thank you for that too :)
Excellent, very pleased to hear it. Thank you :-)
A good watch, thank you
Thank god for that “Lock” sign at the lock.
Safety first!
I love the way you always include the animals :) x
I largely prefer them to humans!
Me too!!!!! absolutely :) x
I am absolutely amazed at the history in England. To have something that happened in 1096 to be documented and then get updated 300 years later and still be 700 years ago is almost incomprehensible to me.
I assume that you are American
Talk to some of the native people of your country. You'll be surprised how far back their histories go. Far further than our records in the uk.
Warren Field in Aberdeenshire, Scotland is the site of the world's oldest known calendar monument yet discovered dated to around 8000 BCE. Much before that and you are into the last ice age which is where the history of modern Britain begins.
@@colinsutherland8965 incredible. Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to enjoy checking it out.
Poo happens. No need to get flustered. As for that propellor? Ouch!
Damage like that makes a great case for a propellor shroud.
Another marvelous video, full of aggravations, and wonderful, friendly help. A good microcosm of Life. I’m glad you got through all those locks at last.
Thank you again for posting these incredible videos. You've made my morning after a bit of outpatient surgery.
Crikey, hope you're OK?!
Bread with Ham and cheese A nice cup of tea and David for company... Such a lovely way to start a day! Even after all these years!! Gosh have it really been over 5 years since I started watching your channel.... Daaaang time flies! :P
😀
@@CruisingTheCut I put on one the Cruising playlist and watch one full episode each morning while having breakfast as I said such a wonderful and peaceful way of getting the day started XD.
wonderful a working mans day on the Trent and Mersey i love work i could watch it all day cheers
Thanks Steve!
As always, very enjoyable, lots of scenery, history, etc.
Thanks :-)
The last music sounds like Pink Floyd. Cool, relaxing vlog. Thank you so much.
Thanks David for a most entertaining start to the week :-) Really looking forward to getting on the cut :-) Such fun, keep up the great work loads of information and tips as always
Thanks. Hope you have fun when you get there. Take it slow!
So look forward to your vids, a highlight to my day. Thank you.
An able skipper if ever I've seen one David. It was funny though! Thanks for the laugh.Ken
Glad to give a laugh every now and then :-)
Was NOT expecting EDM in this vlog, but I’m pleasantly surprised 😊
Are you familiar with this particular piece?
Another fun video - I've watched all of your vlogs except for about two I think - they had something to do with engines or something :-) I especially appreciate your dry sense of humor mixed with just the right amount of sarcasm - just my style LOL! Watching the relaxing, calm cruising parts makes me forget that narrowboating can really be quite a lot of work too :-) (And yes, I did raise my hand as well) Thanks so much David - as always, I look forward to the next one!
Normally people don't watch the ones about poo! Yes, it's surprising how much work boating can be :-)
I woke with a migraine today and thought to watch one of your soothing river boat excursions; all those locks were stressful (music jarring) you must have been exhausted by the end of your day. And, you are right, it does seem that there is always someone watching when we screw up! But, guiding a long boat like yours must be very difficult; I'd have been all over the place and saying, "Sorry!" all day! You do very well as a solo boater; thank you and please keep sharing!
Nah, you'd get used to it very quickly. Most people do after a couple of days. Then it's very straightforward apart from the occasional silly error as shown here. Cheers
Most enjoyed as always David , great vlog
Thanks Glen
I thought you'd said 'wee' lock and thought it was an appropriate place to empty the Elsan, until I saw it was Wheelock! Made me chuckle in places, especially the pulling off while still tied up. At least you didn't have an audience, as is usually the case when something goes wrong. Great vlog, as always 👍
Cheers Dulcie. Haha, imagine a wee lock, yuck... unless that's a Scottish small lock!
Wow I'm exhausted watching all those locks! I know you won't agree but I'm glad you sometimes struggle a bit because that's what gives me the confidence to go out on the canals. Now instead of worrying I just think even you don't always get it right. Thank you, your videos are always great.
I muck it up all the time; you should see the stuff I leave out ;-)
Have you ever thought about a bloopers video? Just think how it would build our confidence!
Alright, there aren't *that* many ;-)
Always always always run a “shock” coupling in the prop drive shaft to absorb the hard hit of objects into the gearbox ! It’s like a large rubber universal joint !
Having grown up in Wheelock it's great to see it on RUclips!
:-)
I love when you are so honest when something goes wrong.... Makes you Channel special. From the States so I love the British sayings...
The quality of your older vlogs and current ones are so good its a real testament to your production skills! How on earth do you keep that handheld camera so still! Brilliant! Here in Canada its a joy to watch a journey each night after dinner.
The camera has an excellent stabiliser!
Thank you for sharing your amazing video, what a day. You don't need a fitness center to work out
It is very good exercise, certainly!
So glad I found these videos. Helps to pass time and relieve a little stress during this lockdown. I’m looking forward to checking out Vandemonium.
I wait until I need to relax and let my cares drift away before watching your Vlogs. As I enjoy your daily adventures even if they my seem trivial to some, the little niggles that are encountered reflects upon everyone's journey and being able to relate to our own short-comings or lack of patience in other areas. Misconceptions of those that are still holding on too tight to life's up and downs I can relate to. Thanks for the warts and all and self depreciation of your post's. In short your Vlogs are very enjoyable.
In short - thank you! :-)
Excellent vlog again. Great to see that it is possible to do errors and to show them too! So great to watch your work.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
When I saw the bent prop and the title , I thought , " I knew he was turning the camera off and recreating the canal chase scene from the movie , The Italian job". But I have a vivid imagination , glad you and your boat are ok , thank you for posting , cheers.
Slightly naughty of me to post that title, I know!
Brilliant videos, expertly and professionally narrated. You should be commissioned fro TV. I've done these routes on my narrowboat and you're very informative; even telling me things I missed.
aww your shots are just lovely!!! you are ace David! and I love your hat
Haha, cheers Jasmin :-)
another great video,,,,its a confident and jovial man who will post his little mistakes along with the usual great views. We all appreciate those mistakes as it helps us better understand what issues come along,,,,and the assistance from other boaters you meet along the way is neat also,,,,,thanks a bunch,,,,
Excellent video really enjoyed splendid day ☺👍
Many thanks
Well done, David, I think you are a bit harsh on yourself about managing the locks, solo.😃👍👏👏👏
another great vlog thanks for delivering my narrow-boat fix, I cant wait to get back on the cut again, all the best Dave
Cheers Mike. Hope it happens for you soon.
Thanks for that video. Really Enjoyed it. I've lived around the canal for the past 20 years and walked and cycled along this stretch many times and its great to see it from an on water perspective.
Thanks
Good 'ole CRT - gotta love the work they put into Britain's canals
Great bit of story. Makes me want more. thumbs up.
More soon! Cheers
Another lovely journey. Marvelous~ 👍🙏🏻💕
8:56 "We can fix that." Plus the damaged propshaft easily done too by a good machinist. The gearbox, on the other hand, hopefully it has shearpins or couplings internally that protected the precious gears. But that has to be determined by the shop. If the gear box is common enough, then replacements gears may be on hand, be used, scavenged or new. When shopping for a boat of any kind, check the power plant and driveline for any issues that may put your ride in drydock and wind up costing a pretty coin. But the prop, yeah, that's phosphor bronze and can be soldered/beaten back into shape, easy peasy for any qualified metalsmith.
You should make some merch with "It's Been A Bit of A Palaver" on them.
This is an excellent idea
Nice episode. Good to know that the name of Wheelock was finally decided upon after nearly 1000 years of indecision...
Another enjoyable trip, Just a bad day at the office with the boat drifting like that. Another learning experience! (although I did raise my hand when you asked THAT question!)
Keep up the good work David. 🛳
Happy to oblige :-)
after your first day with your boat going across the cut, and forgetting to untie--you deserve a double G&T. hope you did get one.
If you get a chance to stop just after bridge 161, you'll find the Sleepy Meadow Pet Cemetery. Well worth a visit and rather surprisingly quite a happy place, filled with memories of dogs, cats, rabbits & horses, whose owners clearly thought the world of them. Our horse, Oliver, is buried there.
There are some resident chickens who are always happy to greet visitors
Hi. Thanks. I'm long past this now though, it was filmed some weeks ago.
Yet again Another Fantastic VlogDavid xxxxxx
Cheers Michelle!
looks like allot of fun. Good luck. PS, Don't let anyone rush you. Take your time & be safe. Vinny. 🇺🇸👍
I try to take it slow, yes. Always best. Cheers
I am inspired to attempt this journey once I retire in 6 years.... A year of travelling the Canals of England!
Thanks David, 14:05....no chimney and no cap..... I am reminded I took off my chimney when I cleaned Percy yesterday and forgot to put a cap on.... a trip to Fradley for me tomorrow.... top video as always
Yeah, I remove the chimney and cap now when going through locks otherwise I have a tendency to flip them off with the centreline when I'm holding the boat on it in the lock...
Another entertaining video. Enjoyed the use of the alternative " sped up lock " music . Well done!
Thank you
Amazing, like always!
Ta
Good video as always. Can't wait for episode 100.
Don't get too excited, it's "just another episode"!
All jokes about "Lockjaw" are probably made at this point so I`ll refrain from that. Thanks for showing the small mishap, lots of people would have left that out of the video. And it is so nice if one can simply decide that "today is enough, I`ll stay here" and your home is with you.
That is the best thing about canal cruising. Stop when you want (mostly)
with that i wish new england had a canal system.
It really isn't fair you know David...your dictation and presentation are so enjoyable and smooth that it can make it almost painful to watch some of the other narrow boating vlogs....so I always save yours for last..lol ..greetings from Michigan, USA
Haha, that's a lovely compliment, thank you :-)
Thanks for the virtual gongoozling fix, greetings from darkest Africa!
Hello Africa! Wow.
Your just human
Things like that is what makes great memories.
I've been watching cruising the cut when I first seen the long boats I thought it was the stupidest thing I've ever seen you always give something a second chance. the more I watch it the neater it is.I it's the way you described everything and such pretty Countryside. keep it up, I'm still watching go figure. I live in the United States.
love the lock music xD
:-)
Great vlog as always David :-)
Ta
Fantastic as usual. 👍🏼
Ta
Greatly enjoying your vids, David. Also enjoying following along on Google maps, to get a better idea of where your are (have been?). Love your work.
I found your channel a few days ago and watched every episode. Very compelling, thanks for making them! I've never known anything about your canal network, truly fascinating. Cheers from the US.
Thanks for tuning in and undergoing such a viewing marathon!
Great video as always. I think I have seen them all. You clearly put a lot of effort into them very professional. Oh well back to the office tomorrow. All the very best.
Thank you. They do take a fair bit of work :-)
re "Boaty McBoat face" If I ever bought a boat I think I I'd call it " RTFM" or possibly "Of Course I still Love You 2"
RTFM read the ffing manual or .. ?
Given that this stretch of canal has been around for well over a hundred years, I'm amazed that the offending rock inflicted its very first bit of damage on a prop, unless it had been tossed in recently by vandals? Either that, or it's happened many times before, in which case one wonders why it hasn't been removed.
Excellent upload, as usual - thank you David.
I'm not sure why the rock suddenly emerged to cause chaos, I'll have to ask them. Cheers.
Having watched many of your videos I have added a centerline rope to my gunel's on my 24 ' cabin cruiser I am building as I will be like you a single hander. I figured it would make life easier docking up at the boat launch near me!
It's always the wind and it's always when someone is watching!
Nice work though, single handed is something I only tend to do when Jess is making food or tea. 20 locks is huge!
Keeps me fit!
Great video as always so interesting, I have to admit☺️I did laugh which is not good manners😳 but once you giggle sorry it just hit the funny spot. Love your video👍🏻
Laugh away! :-)
Whew! When I saw the image on your RUclips page I thought it was *your* prop that got smashed. Once again, greatly enjoying your videos. Almost sad that I'm starting to catch up!
Slow down!
Nah, just do the whole series again, now with google maps open ;)
Omg, Boaty McBoatFace. 😄
Thank you showing your demonstration video on why you do not tie up the boat at a lock. It could have been a lot worse, you could have damaged the boat or worse done that at a pub full of gongoozler’s with cameras. Lovely couple who helped you with the locks too.
Right on sir!
Enjoyable as always. I discovered very quickly myself that the wind can be a right royal PITA. :)
It really, really can. Usually when winding... or any manoeuvre in a marina.
CruisingTheCut Is that 'winding' or 'winding'? ;)
:-)
CountryHouseGent It's 'winding' ;)
You sir are a champion... I find it truly amazing that you respond to every comment... no small feat... well take a brake on this one mate... and have a cuppa on me...
Boaty McBoatface!
Most comments anyway :-)
Dank U voor deze video :-) 👍
Well David, I think that you're really doing pretty good, even with the wind bothering you, as you only started narrowboating not all that long ago.
You've learned a lot in a short period of time, and your vlogs are very nice and entertaining.
Thank you; I do feel that overall I am feeling more competant (usually!) and confident than I was when I started.
Great vlog as always David.
Ta
Great as always, that prop though, amazed they didn't have to replace the stuffing box as well as what you stated!
They may well have done, I don't have the full details (we only spoke briefly)!
Oh no I'm sorry the wind blew your boat away from the tie up at that lock. Hats off to the folks that helped you with the second day of locks.
nice cruise! and, you're human. ..we all have those types of moments....still impressed😏👍
Cheers Julie!
So true, everything goes wrong when people are watching! If you are chuffed you did something perfectly, you can guarantee there's nobody around!
Every time!
since this is my second time watching, i'll have to put my thumbs up here.👍
