Wow. Thank you for actually saying this, Ant. I keep having to explain to people that Patreon is not a "fan club" and it doesn't base itself around an idea of "exclusive content". It's the opposite. It's an incredible eco-system which allows people with the means to support and contribute to me and my team, so that people who cannot contribute can still access the content for free. I hate paywalls, I abhor corporate sponsorship, and I don't ever want to put my art on a shelf that only the rich can reach. What I love most about patreon is that everybody who uses it, GETS IT. I almost never see patrons complain to me that they want more "exclusivity". It's not about that. It's about supporting the artists you love so that EVERYBODY can have the art. So thank you for saying it. I know it'll mean a lot to the patrons who know it, but don't often hear it.

I once was having a conversation with my friend and he mentioned he'd seen something on RUclips about Lucy Lawless. I said it was too bad she wasn't allowed in the U.S. anymore. Hook baited, he sincerely asked, "Wait, what? Why isn't she allowed in the U.S. anymore?"

I need to say this. This may be one of the most inspiring and honest interviews I've ever seen. I'm sitting here in silence after watching this still processing everything that was said by you and Neil.. And I've suddenly realised that despite the isolation that I along with so many others around the world have experienced I havent allowed silence to be a guide.. I don't know if I'm making sense but for the first time in years tonight I'm letting that speak. And it's so good for the soul.. And it's because of you two. Thank you. Just thank you.

Lucy is a true gem. What Amanda described as her mamma-bear nurturing is so true… her sons came to my son’s birthday party in 2006, which coincided with a very hard period in my life. She was just a champ, with the lightest, most uplifting touch. She’s an amazing human being. It warms my heart and brings tears to my eyes to hear Amanda talk about how she helped lighten the load and guide you through the darkness. That was a supremely wonderful thing to watch. I still think Amanda & Neil have truly earned aplomb as the royalty of the internet.

Yesterday was my birthday. So this was just a treat. I'm a brazilian, so... yeah, watching this was kinda bittersweet, you know? Like... Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Amanda and Neil talking, but man... watching those 1200 people together on this theatre? Without masks? That hurts. That hurts because it shows me the reality of most places, where the pandemic was taken seriously. It's 2 in the morning now and I have no idea why I'm writing this. Anyways. I love you guys.

When you didn't know who your friends voted for in elections, cause you didn't even think about politics at all. Or was that just me? Cause I miss those days.
Bring back the days of people keeping political views private. The world would be a much calmer and better place.

@@thedeadd.c.207 One of the signs of intelligence is debates. Debates and discussions about politics is how change happens in the world. I worked for an NGO that succeeded in getting a law change to happen(The decriminalization of sex work act 2003, New Zealand) This was only able to happen because over the tea cups a group of friends started talking to each other about how we could make the world safer for sex workers. Those discussions lead to an MP making it a private members bill, that was picked out of the ballot and then many years and a hell of a lot of work and polictal talks with all walks of life, we accomplished the law change to happen. That is how democracy works. I am sorry that you have not had a positive experience with political conversations, I hope that chances for you one day. It is so interesting to hear these sides of NZ. I grew up and live in Wellington, full of liberals with a rainbow street crossing. It shocks me sometimes when travelling around NZ just quite how different the views are in some smaller towns. The way an old farmer type spoke about women in a country pub in Southland..... but then you can go to the Coromandel and it is like you are in a 70s hippie camp. New Zealand might be small but it is very different depending on where you are.

One of my former partners and I were both writers. We both wrote short stories, and both of us had the same editing ideas -- we didn't like being too verbose. The simpler the sentence, the better. That was just how her mind worked. And for me, I was heavily influenced by spoken word and some authors who were able to let the absence of words speak as much as the presence of words.
Outside of writing, we couldn't have been more different. My musical taste is wide. Hers was very limited. She needed order, I was happy with anything goes. Our differences ultimately meant we weren't a good match. Some of those bridges couldn't be built. But where bridges were built were some of the most fantastic parts of the relationship. To date it's the only relationship I've had that ended on good, mutual, terms. There were definitely parts that we could have made more effort in, but I don't think either of us regret the outcome.
The relationship between what you have in common and what you don't is always a bit of a wild ride, but it's a damn fun one while you're on it.

You should really take a moment to reflect. If Amanda's guiding you then your destination is hellfire. Seriously, she's a polarizing figure in the industry for good reason: she used money her fans gave her for a show and used it to pay off personal debts, she expected local musicians to accept beer and hugs as payment for their time instead of money, her patron knew of her divorce to Neil Gaiman before _he_ did, she stalked and harassed a reporter to the extent you'd expect to see from a male executive, she repeatedly recites pseudointellectual drivel, and that's not even half of the skeletons in her creaky closet.

I disagree with Amanda about art being unnecessary. It is necessary. It is necessary for the artist, it's also necessary for everyone else. Stories for example, we need stories to understand ourselves, we are the only creature (on this planet anyway) that does the magical thing of telling each other stories. Understanding ourselves is necessary and thus stories are necessary as an avenue for helping us, to understand the kind of animal that we are. We also do the same thing with comic books, movies, music, TV and stage plays, we also do it with paintings in many ways. So she is wrong there. As without art we would be very lost, unintellectual and dumb.
I do get the point she was trying to make, based on her own personal feelings and thoughts, but art and it's creation and everything in the head of the artist is necessary. It's as necessary as procreation, why? Because we need to make children for the continuation of the species, but also to continue creating and appreciating art. Without Art we have no culture as a species. And without culture, we are not human.

I think she meant necessary in the strict utilitarian, Food, water, shelter sense. And in that sense she's right, art's absolutely unnecessary, but that's perfectly fine, lot's of things are "Unnecessary" by those terms and are still incredibly important. What she's saying isn't automatically an insult to Art. 1:05:00 ish + or -

Exuberant enthusiasm is not something we do in Aotearoa, I think it's something (among other things) that has lingered from the English. It kind of drives me nuts sometimes, like when I'm somewhere it is very much warranted, but there's just crickets. Having been to the US a couple of times and seeing it on display there is an experience. It made me realise how truly repressed we are lol.
