Ive just got a rk002 and it works great with a Nord Lead 1 synth and Kaosillator. Plug the orange end into the In of the Kaosillator and the black end into the Out of the Nord.
Actually that's a good point, because it's not 'classically' monophonic. What I meant was that it can only accept one note at a time from the controller. Some of it's internal sounds appear chord-like and of course there's lots of delay and tail in some of the sounds which generates harmonies and layers, so there is a king of polyphony to be fair. But strictly single-note melodies from the controlling source as far as I am aware at this time.
@@gearfacts thanks for the clarification. when i watched the video i thought u were playing chords at a few points but i just watched again and i see that you were only playing one note at a time. thank you again!

Did your mod wheel just work too? Got my op1 connected via an rk005 but i have no y axis control. Still no worries as the notes play and im also connected via an arpie midi arpeggiator too. Love the retrokits stuff
Hi, I would need some help if you can... how should i set up the cables between keyboard, kaossilator and audio interface? and... how then the sound will play into Ableton10? Audio channel or Midi channel? Thank you for helping out!
You could record the audio direct into Ableton by connecting the 'line out' or 'heaphones' socket to your audio interface. Or you could connect the MIDI out on the Kaossilator to your computer with a USB/MIDI interface if you have one. If you can make it record through MIDI, you will have more flexibility to edit what you have created. #gearfacts
Hi, I purchased this recently.....now I have a basic midi keyboard but I'm not able to change the sound and tone.....is it because I don't have a modulation wheel on my keyboard?
@@gearfacts yes I did....I have a Yamaha psr 260, without any mod or pitch wheel....connected it to the kaossilator....I can play it and sound is generated from kaossilator while playing from the keyboard....the only thing is that, with each preset and patch there are different sounds on the 4 different corrners of the kaossilator I'm only getting sound/tone from one particular section of the kaossilator....cant modify or manipulate the kaossilator to get the sound from other parts of the pad per preset....hope you get.my problem.......in your video you were using the mod wheel to change the sound of a preset....how can I do that with a.midi keyboard that doesn't have pitch or modulation jog wheel?
Okay, I understand what you mean. I can't see any way to do it without some kind of controller. If there were assignable knobs on your keyboard, maybe they could do the job. But if your keyboard is just keys and not much else, I don't think it can be done...
I have recently purchased the RK002 for the kaossilator pro and am attempting to control it with an Arturia Keystep. I was advised by the retrokits customer service that the keystep controller should work, but I am still having problems. I have the kaossilator set to chromatic scale, 4 octave range, and xy cc to default 12 and 13 settings, but still no luck (saved global settings so when powering on these are the default). Is there any insight you could provide on settings that would make the cable work with the keystep?
I've never used a keystep before sorry JM. I'd google the question and see if there are any other users who are getting results, or if there's anyone contactable who has the same setup. Sorry I couldn't be more help
Thanks for the bid, just wondering if you could answer a question for me. Does the RK-002 give the KP polyphonic capabilities, or is pressing two keys simply simulating the effect of using two fingers on the touchpad? Thanks for any help mate!
I found it was more like two fingers on the touchpad. I couldn't get much polyphony happening at all apart from sounds that had really heavy release times. So no, as far as I can tell it stays monophonic. GF
@@gearfacts Thanks so much for the reply man! I thought that's what seemed to be happening. I'll probably not get this cable then, I was realistically just looking to squeeze a little polyphony out of the KP without needing to layer loops. At this point it looks like I'll just be buying a Volca Keys though.
@@gearfacts Hey man every challenge has a solution is the motto. Keep trying to hack the programming you'll crack it! I'd love to know if the solution is found. Cheers!
what kind of keyboard is that because i bought one of these RK-2 AND tried this same setup except my midi keyboard is an Axiom 25 M-audio but i cant get it to work and how can i make it work any advice?
I connected an op1 to the kaossilator via the rk002 and a rk005. Thats how i get power into mine and everything works great. I only have control of the x axis so i get the notes but none of the y modulation as the op1 doesn't have a mod wheel
Clearly the cable is great, but I'd like to know exactly how it works. Does anyone have a link to implementation details for what MIDI messages are being sent to the kaossilator to get it to play notes? Custom MIDI software can do the job of that cable.
OK I just confirmed how to do this without the cable. The cable is a great solution but it works by translating note messages into cc messages. The x y pad is on cc #12 & #13 but you must also send #92 to 127 to activate the pad or to 0 to deactivate it. Note that the x value is not the same as the note number, and it depends on the kp’s scale and note range in order to pick the correct x value. I believe this would affect how the cable works. Having said that, in theory the cable or any midi translation logic could account for the program and system settings as I believe those things can be derived over midi. I played notes using ableton envelope automation on a clip. Also program changes work. I think Max for Live may be a method of doing the midi translation.
This is good information - thanks chromo. I'd really like to enable polyphonic play but I have a feeling that's a limitation of the Koassilator. Any thoughts?
It's monophonic but the 4 recorded loops are audio, so chords can be recorded with successive recordings on a single loop recorder bank.
true - good point there :)
And of course some of the presets are chords, sometimes split into major and minor vertical halves. e.g. maj7/min7
That's very cool, often thought it'd be nice to use the pro as a synth. Thanks for this.
How is there sound while there apparently isn’t any cable connected to the output of the kaossilator??
Good question! The headphone output is just out of view at the lower left of the unit, I was recording from there.
I wondered that too

Has anyone tried using the RK-002 with a midi keyboard that has pads and triggering the drum sounds from the Kaossilator Pro+
did you figure it out yet?
will the RK-002 work with M-audio Axiom 25 keyboard controller and Kaossilator pro?
can you show how you set this all u? like i said i baught the cable but im not getting it to play with my keyboard =(
TO be honest mate, I just plugged it in and it worked. All I can suggest is contact Retrokits. Sorry I couldn't be more help
I don't get it. So you have to use the mod wheel to get any sound to come out?
No, you can just play the keyboard that is connected. Modulation still works.

where can i buy one
Retrokits has a website, it's online only.
Do you need that cable for the Kaossilator pro plus too or can you control the pro plus with a regular midi cable?
You will need the retrokits cable to do that.
