    The blame is entirely yours, Tim. I'd never heard of Schuyler at the start of the year--now I have 3 of their bibles: a PSQ ESV, a Treveris ESV, and the RSV Quentel. It's been difficult avoiding full disclosure to my wife of what I've spent on these beauties! Many, many thanks!

    Thanks for the review Tim. Schuyler did tell me that after the 36 gsm is gone in the remaining NIV’s that they’ll be going to a 28 gsm like the rest unfortunately. I went ahead and bought 2 of them while I could to get the thicker paper. I just think that the ghosting on the 28 gsm looks horrible. I’m really not a fan of this new fad of having to make Bibles thinner and thinner to appease the little girly men that can’t carry a real Bible. I mean who wants see-through tissue paper in a $200 plus Bible?? To me a thicker paper just says quality. I think their wide margin 40 gsm is perfect. Superior quality and readability. Hopefully Schuyler see’s the light someday soon. That’s just my opinion.

    I have a few Schuylers, bought the Schuyler NIV Quentel for my wife and love the 36gsm paper, the Bible does not feel too thick. I also have a CSB Quentel with the 28gsm paper and I love the layout, not crazy about the thinner paper. I do have ESB and NIV PSQ's and I'm fine with the 28gsm paper on them. Beautiful Bibles from Schuyler, I just prefer 36gsm across the board on the larger ones.

    I own a Schuyler Treveris KJV, but it's not my favorite. It's brick red and not real ruby red like I was hoping. It is goat skin which I love, but it's a 6x9 size and in book form which I found out is not my fave at all. I don't care much about cross -references either. Now, after reading what your friend wrote😄 about Bible colors, I'm more fond of purple KJV's instead. I love studying the Word of God and I'm glad we have you to review Bibles before we buy them! 😃

      Swell overview Tim: My understanding is that SCHUYLER will be publishing hopefully in 2024 a Canterbury Series Edition of the AUTHORIZED [KING JAMES] VERSION which also includes the AV/KJV translations of the books called Apocrypha. If so...I hope SCHUYLER makes it available in a "red letter edition" that not only recognizes and attributes the words of JESUS in the New Testament, but also to words that can be "reasonably referenced" to Our LORD in the Old Testament and the Apocrypha...! Wouldn't that be "awesome"...?
      Continue to keep all of us "Bible addicts" [...LOL...😂...] updated...!

    As always, I enjoy your Bible review videos. I can't count the times I have been to Evangelical Bible to look at their Schuyler Bibles, but I finally ordered the Quintel NASB Bibe in Firebrick red. I went for the full-size vs Personal size because of the larger font 11 vs 8.5 point. I have been looking for about a year. I was worried that the 1995 translation might be replaced by the 2020 one so I decided to order now. I still will read my ESV study Bible, but for just Bible reading I will use the Quintel because of its smaller weight. Thanks again for your videos that helped me make my decision.

    I heard so much good things about them that I bought a full yapp Canterbury a while back, a costly purchase considering the freight cost over here to Norway added to the cost of the Bible itself, but oh boy, it was worth it! I don't think I could choose between that and the Cambridge Turquoise, and that is really saying something!

    • @destinycoach5
      @destinycoach5 6 месяцев назад

      Which do you like better between the two?? and why?

    • @WeldingForJesus
      @WeldingForJesus 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@destinycoach5 Between Schuyler and Cambridge in general or the regular size Canterbury vs the Turquoise specifically?
      Short answer is that I like both publishers, but for different things. I like the scanned plates in the Turquoise/Concord/Cameo, it gives a vintage feel to them, but unfortunately that was also the days when they did self-pronouncing texts which I find to be a pain to read. The boldness of the font, paper quality and construction quality also goes to Cambridge I'd say.
      For Schuyler (I only have the Canterbury, but I have two regular size and just ordered my second personal size), I love love love their calfskins! And the dropcaps are beautiful, and the fact that they include a glossary over archaic words and ones that have changed meaning over time.
      All-in-all, I'd say Schuyler for joy of reading and esthetic pleasure, but Cambridge for durability. Ease of reading is a tie since Cambridge both have bolder font AND the annoying self-pronounciation. But you'd be hard pressed to be unhappy with either.

    • @WeldingForJesus
      @WeldingForJesus 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@destinycoach5 PS: If I only had one Bible and had to use it for the rest of my life, I'd go Cambridge Cameo, probably one of the blue or green edgelined goatskin versions. It is very readable (minus the above mentioned self-pronounciation) but not cumbersome to carry, and it is as close to bulletproof as a book can get. But that might not be the size you are after?

    • @destinycoach5
      @destinycoach5 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@WeldingForJesus thank you Welding. That was very helpful. I don't believe I have looked at the Cameo so will give that a look. Isn't it interesting that we just can't get it all on one. Cambridge has bolder font which is good for older eyes. But esthetics is Schuyler. It's always the way isn't it.
      Ok... Just for kicks n giggles let's add in another shall we??......
      HUMBLE LAMB Shepherd which has incredible specs:
      32gsm paper (over the 28 of other two) 6x9
      9pt font which is tad small. I Prefer 10.
      Blue letter which I love over the red.
      Single col which I've never used so I have no idea if id prefer over 2 col. What I do like tho is the extra white on page for I'm a note taker.
      Lots of maps and of course the paintings.
      I'm curious what did the shipping cost you to get to Norway. I'm in Canada so have to do international shipping also.
      Appreciate your input Welding. Thank you.

    • @WeldingForJesus
      @WeldingForJesus 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@destinycoach5 Yes, if only we could customize our favourite Bible from the various traits of the publishers and models! What a beautiful dream that would be.
      I have never heard of the Humble Lamb before, but 36 gsm and blue letters sounds awesome! The size is a bit of a turnoff for me though, 9x6 would be about the same as the Canterbury regular and Turquoise and I find myself only using them at home by a table since they are too unruly to hold laying down and not very pocket friendly either. Does it come in a personal size or compact?
      Then you might find the Cameo font size too small, it is only an 8 point, but it is extremely crisp and with both bold letters and very opaque paper it reads more like a 9,5 in my subjective opinion. Look it up for fun, it is not extremely uncommon so you might find a physical one to look at? If you decide to go for it, be aware that there is a difference between the black edge lined one and the blue or green ones. The latter two has leather liners but the black one has a polyurethane one. I personally never had one fail me, but others have experienced them degrading over time, which is why I recommend the blue or green. And afaik all calfskin/calfsplit options have paste-down, so I'd not go for those either.
      Now you're going to have a laugh, but the only option over here from Evangelical Bibles was FedEx, and it cost me 96 USD! 😳 Which is why I usually would prefer buying at least two Bibles when first ordering (couldn't afford it this time though and didn't wanna miss the pre-order). I guess the cost will be way lower to Canada though.
      And I love talking Bibles, both format and content all day, so it is all my pleasure.

    Beautiful Bibles but for many of us, the 11 point Milo font used in the Quentel seems absurdly large. I understand we all have different preferences but I find the 10 point font in the NLT and RSV Quentels to be much better. It’s unfortunate that Schuyler has apparently said they will only use 10 point font in a Quentel when they introduce entirely new translations to the product line (like the NLT and RSV). I hope that changes, Check out the NLT Quentel - it’s fantastic.

    I just learned so much in this video presentation, thank you, about how Bibles are formatted. What I learned serendipitously though is that those who make these either don't read them or have a weird sense of humour: I would rather own a sheep or lamb skin than a goat skin any day :-O :-D

    • @filobiblic
      @filobiblic Год назад

      Historically and pragmatically goatskin was used for Bibles because it was cheaper, plentiful and more durable. Sheepskin is very soft and doesn’t suit Bible binding. Calfskin is becoming more available due to advances and techniques, as well as demand. 🤷‍♂️

      @@timwildsmith I'm not. I've never seen a Schuyler Bible in person, and will probably never see one. I might save up for an Esv Psq in the new aniline leather that will be coming. If not, I'll stuck with my Esv large print compact. It works OK. Too much ghosting though.

      @@Creationhorse I was waiting about a year to actually find a Schuyler in person, gave up, good luck! I recently bought a couple and they're flawless AFAIK, worth climbing the escalating commitment ladder though .....
      NLT is hard to source anything nice so yes I did "need" a couple for me and my pastor that leans NLT, but I wouldn't buy more Schuyler without specialized usage needs. I prefer ESV so I'll likely get an ESV or two, likely a zippered PSQ because who else makes premium with zippers for EDC?

    • @nobodyspecial1852
      @nobodyspecial1852 Год назад

      @@Creationhorse the hardest thing about justifying full premium ESV is the usual quality to cost disparity of Crossway products. They're well bound and less ghosty than the competition, IMO better formatting ... and ESV just reads good. I'll likely try some buffalo bound this year.

I have one question. I know you don’t do this but you might help me understand. Why do some people on RUclips scribble all over the pages of the Bible. Some cover the entire page. They are illegible. Please answer my question. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I’m ignorant. Maybe that’s a new fad. I’m old and having a hard time trying to keep up with new ways of doing things

    I've heard Schuyler won't be offering slate goatskin so much anymore. I think that will be sad if its true. I think its a great design. That slate Quentel you have there looks really good. I'm glad I got a PSQ in slate.
    Also, something I thought of after you revealed all new Quentel typesettings will have a 10pt size text, what will happen with the PSQs of those typesettings? Scaling down the page with the text as is will result in a text of less than 8pt...
