My grandfather was one of the owners that sold Ightham mote to mr robinson. I met him as about an 8 year old in 1972. My grandfather and 2 others bought it at the end of the war to save it from being demolished for the lead and the stone post war. Bought for £5500, sold for £5500
Great story. The very thought that someone could consider knocking down this historical gem is incredible. Went there today, the National Trust are doing a fantastic job.
