No, this is not a bad recording, no, the sound in the Barbican, live, was that lame, complete lack of high freq., huge reverb, that piano sounded like a cheap 2nd hand, some mid-high notes came out way stronger than the rest, everything was junk. And yes, half of the concert was Herbie talking, at one point I thought I went to a standup. Yes, the quitar sounded that lame (see minute 20). Yes, the bass was that lame (see minute 57). Then 1h21-1h27... Boooring. And the piano... What piano? Exactly, you can barely hear the piano. From 1h11 to 1:17... What the F was that? Maybe just Herbie being old, who knows. I challenge you: play from 1h39 and try recognize that last song (hint: it's supposed to be Chameleon). Worse jazz performance ever, lamest performance of Herbie ever. (and the next day it was exactly the same)
Well I was recording using an Iphone se which is definitely not a good device. For me the sounding was indeed not perfect, but not that bad except for too much reverb on trumpet. Many music present on the show were out of my expect. However most of them were interesting and worth listening to.
@@jizhou7262 I quote enjoyed the effects on the trumpet. Reminds me of modern jazz production which was nice to see given that they could have easily got away with playing the old stuff. I liked seeing the cutting edge of jazz and fusion.
Herbie Hancock piano, keys
James Genus bass
Jaylen Petinaud drums
Lionel Loueke guitar
Terence Blanchard trumpet
What an amazing night
We saw this group last Tuesday, 9/20/23. I am still stunned. Every one of them.
👌🔥
Who wrote these arrangements, Terence? So fresh!)
I can't remember them exactly but I think some are arranged by Lionel
1:16:00 Song?
Looking for this one too. If I find out l’ll let you know. Shout back if you get the answer too! Anyone else know?
Did a little digging and found out it's called Secret Sauce. Apparently it's a new tune don't think it's been recorded yet
@@DaBaronSamedi - awesome. Thanks for sharing 😎

I disagree with everything except the thing about the occasional note ringing out a bit.
i saw him last night… Herbie was fantastic. The drummer outrageous and the sound was fine.
