Emanuele Buono I experienced a hard drive failure not long after the second part of this tutorial, so I lost the videos. However, I do plan on completing this tutorial one day soon. I may work on the handle and lid tutorials again in my spare time, and upload the videos in a couple weeks.

Hi, Laura. Thank you for the interest in the video. I'm sorry for the delay in completing this series. I will upload the next video, which covers how to model the handle and details in the handle, within the next couple days. Please stay tuned. I've been very busy with projects lately, and simply didn't have time to create the final steps yet. Thanks for reminding me.

Plung Ton Thanks. I had part 3 done last year, but lost it in a hard drive fail on my previous workstation. I will have to finish this tutorial at some point. I think the first two parts are the most difficult portions of the creation.

hey john great tutorial, when is part 3 coming?
LOL, just kidding. as it seems that you are working in this 3d buisnes would you mind to tell me what the standard software is that you should at least have a good knowledge of? like max, maya, blender and so on... what is your job specialization if i might ask?
is 3DSmax still the boss in 3d software like it was in the beginning?

neskalinXP I wouldn't consider 3dsmax to be the best 3d software anymore. Not sure it ever really was, but I do believe it's one of the most powerful modeling packages, as the modifiers and polygon modeling tools it contains are still very much some of the best in the industry. Maya is perhaps the best software for animation available today, and Blender is certainly extremely powerful, and cost-effective as well. I think Blender's main strength is also it's modeling tools. Blender's fast extrusion and hotkey-driven workflow make it a very efficient plolygonal modeling app, although 3dsmax does have some features that take a few extra steps to reproduce in Blender. Maya also has good modeling tools, but most of them can be found in 3dsmax, or Blender, with even more extra features. Maya is certainly the application to learn if you intend to work in the animation field, or CG film production studios. It's been making strides also in the game creation market, but 3dsmax is still ahead of the pack there. I'd suggest begin by learning Blender, since it will give you a good foundation in a lot of professional skills and tools, and then move on to either Maya, or 3dsmax if you plan to get a job in the industry. Cinema4D is being used a lot in the broadcast graphics market, especially in the UK. So if you live across the pond, and wish to get a job in a TV or broadcast studio there, then C4D might be a good package to learn. I also highly recommend learning Zbrush. No matter what industry you get into in the world of CG, Zbrush is a major player in almost every studio these days.

hey john, thank you for the extended answer. i love Zbrush. i am just trying to get into the whole poly- and topology thing. i know Zbrush got the hard surface and polymodelling tools since 4.7 but i need some basic knowledge and understanding as i am not totaly but kinda new to that subject. i think most of the programms got quite some similarities. a friend of mine told me that if i wanna start it i should learn 3DSmax for sure as it is one of the more complicated and extensive ones. when i got that the others become more easy to learn.
anyways, thanks a lot for your answer, and ye, i am quite near to the UK. keep em vids coming !
...i am an educated goldsmith, worked for 10 years, but modelling and printing prototypes is by far more efficient whether its the time aspect or the financial aspect... and you re able to do things that are nearly impossible with the traditional techniques... your tutorials are also quite mechanical and geometrical so i hope to learn a lot from these.

Well Damn! What happened to part 3?? Oh hard drive crash - Bummer
Well at least i gleaned a LOT of things I didn't know how to do in 3ds max from these.
But damn, gotta get googling and get reference for the rest LOL

A hard drive failure caused me to lose the last two videos in this series. I'll have to eventually remake them, but I'll have other tutorials coming soon as well.
