I’m a 58 year old Bronx born Dj currently working in Las Vegas. I only play house 🏡 music and 80’s music. House music got its name because back in the 80’s personal computers just got enough power to produce music at home!
100% agree on having the right people criticize your music. I can send my tracks to all my friends and they'll say it sounds good, but only one of my friends criticizes my tracks and tells me what to fix. That has been the most useful feedback for me.
Yes I love it when people criticize my tracks. I have one friend who always tells me if something is bad in my music. He tells me the second he doesn't like something and he also gives me praise when he likes somethig. Most people don't want to say they don't like your music when they are friends with you.
Thank you so much I really needed to hear this today, my passion since a child was always to produce my own music. Rewind last year was very tough for my family and I financially, that I had to pawn Majority of my gear just to stay on my feet. I been working very hard on myself and been working very hard to get my gear back so I can get back on track with my vision💯💯 IYKYK
My fire goal is to have a recording studio on the Italian Riviera that is close to the beach. I want to have a bed and breakfast included in the studio so that musicians can record and stay the night at the studio in case they have travelled a long way or need a few days recording.
my fire goal is to launch my own sound production and mastering studio Why, its a dream of mine since early teen age years when I was shown how to loop beats and samples using two tape decks and a 3sec sampler.
My 🔥fire goal🔥 for 2023 is to release a professional sounding song onto Spotify, Apple Music or wherever and possibly an EP or album! I've only been making music for about 10 months now and while I think I've improved pretty well throughout this year I still can't produce the level of quality and emotion I hear in my favorite songs. I really want to make producing EDM and Pop my full-time job and I'm confident that 2023 will be the year that things will change for me! However, I have found that getting motivated and actually getting out of that 8 bar loop is difficult for me sometimes, as I imagine it is for all producers, so I might take a look at joining your course! It seems quality and all the reviews from your students are great and their music especially sounds incredible! Your videos have helped me very much in my growth as a producer! Stay awesome Will!! ✊😄
A great video full of kickass guidance. My goal is to make a huge fortune on the back of others more talented than me. Buy a playboy mansion and be surrounded by fit babes. 😄 Really, I will be happy to stay healthy into my 70s. Have a great holiday young man!
Staying healthy is a great goal, and will be a part of my new year resolution! (Not that I don't like your other goal but I can't seem to find any time for that one, while I am spending hours each week creating videos to release 🙂)
That's interesting Will. But I completely lost my motivation cause all of this goals... you know, in this business you don't have any guarantee or algorithm to be successful. Only less % of people really have a chance to do that. So i'm affraid to waste the time and as result being nowhere like a loser.
I am definitely struggling with number 3. I have so many ideas that one day I decide to do a trance, the next day deep house, the next classic house etc...
@djchemie I am with you on this, I really enjoy listening to too many genres (in a sense) but need to take a deep dive and decide what to produce. Thanks Will, great content as always.
same shit bro... i really don't know what to do with that? it's impossible to mix all the genres i love in one project and i can't run 3 projects in same time. any thoughts?
@@MrX-bh1ij I don't really know but I think the best is to really set yourself a goal and stick to it for a start. Hi Will, thank you so much for sharing tips and valuable advice for all music producers. I would share my goal: to find a community where to share electronic music tracks that members and I make (downtempo electronica and progressive electronica). I hope to achieve in 2023. Thanks again for all your work. Muchos éxitos para tí también este año. Un abrazo
Some great tips and advice here. Though I don't know if I personally believe in sticking to one genre. As someone that's highly creative - and as someone that listens to a plethora of different genres - I just can't stick to one genre when it comes to producing. I do mainly produce uplifting trance but I also like to delve into techno, synthwave and other styles that dont have a name haha. I think producing in a few different styles is okay.
Im the same, I need to produce in a few different genres, but I have different profile names for those, chicago city for slap house, for example. however Im starting to agree with him, I cant focus on getting slap house done right because Im working on all these other genre techniques, not easy.
Hi Will. Can you make a video or explain to me personally how to define your genre of music? I started writing music a long time ago but I didn't do it seriously. Now I want to try to delve into this but I don't even know which reference tracks to focus on.
@@18Hands I'm afraid it would be extremely surprising to hear something like this in DJ sets. 🙂 In general the point is that I don't even know which reference track to take for mixing. Probably I'am still so poorly versed in the mixing that I have not grasped the essence of this process. 😂 (That's why I'm on this channel.) But thank you for participating. The idea of releasing tracks independently is quite reasonable.
Hey Will great content! I’m struggling with mixing vocals in my tracks this is my weakest spot I’d love if you can share a few tips about mixing vocals while synths are playing in the background . Will, concerning feedback. Where do you seek constructive feedback, well you are a pro, but anyway? I used to hear feedback about my tracks like your mix is muddy. Well, ok, and the critic never says how to get that fixed. I think that your videos and channel are the best critic as you explain how to fix stuff that isn't working well.
"How to Succeed in the Music Industry in 2023" - That's no real goal, Will. I guess you'll know Cameron from Venus Theory. He's a reasonable person and ... honestly: There are only very few artists throughout a year, who seriously get a chance to earn money with their music. And this number even shrinks much more, if this success is supposed to come from the "music industry". Our business models don't support "small business" and ... to make it short: Either you really hit the jackpot and make something awesome enough and know the right people to get a chance for publishing such tracks on a large scale basis, or you simply can dream of such a "career" - and frankly spoken, Will: Given the knowledge of "big money"'s methods I'm not even little interested to act as a very tiny gear in a huuuge gearbox, only living under a massive stress for being able to stay "competitive" and in the end being used like a piece of toilet paper or a cigarette. It is much more motivating to get music made, get it played (perhaps in some party room) and learn by doing it. And it would be much better to not light up such "dreams" of careers, which might look "bright", but this is only the illusion, which is created for the consumers in order to make them buy these artists products - to fill up the stockholders pockets... Music should be something like in the 70's and 80', when small bands made gigs... filling up party basements/rooms and help bringing people together. Especially in our days this would be much easier, as one only needs a mobile computer (laptop or even a powerful tablet), some midi controller, perhaps a little more hardware and... voilá, the party can begin (...at least almost). That is a way better and much more constructive goal than chasing a dream like crazy, a sick dream at that. Would be interesting to read your thoughts to my statements and views.....
You’re a realist and you value the learning process more than worldly success. You also like to share your music with others. You feel that trying to “make it” conflicts with your ability to enjoy making music purely for the joy and learning process.
Success means different things to different people, Kurt. For some it's playing in front of thousands of people, or being released on Anjuna, and for others it's to finish a first track, or make music that can move others... Some people produce because they truly love it or it's their escape from the mundane every day life. My point being that you and only you define what success means to you and can create goals based on what you see as a success for you. These goals is something that can help you navigate to the success you envisage for yourself. Without goals, people tend to procrastinate or for months look for a perfect kick, spending money on endless sample packs, or buy endless third-party plugins, hoping this last one will fix everything, never finishing a single track.
@@EDMTips I understand your statements of setting goals, being productive ... and when you have read thoroughly you should have seen, that I don't disagree with those parts of your statements and your recommendations. I see these recommendations even very helpful and a real support for those, who make music - in different "states" of personal development. What I simply dislike is the feeding of dreams to become a "star". You are surely intelligent and experienced enough to know, that such "striving" goes to a wrong direction. You try to motivate someone to "fight for a jackpot in a lottery", what a career in this business usually is in the end and what every reasonable person will identify as an entrance point into a very bad spiral, which almost never lead to a sustainable success for those in the spiral. Making someone go a professional way in developing and enhancing own skills, helping and motivating people to develop continuity in music production (what surely needn't be done by mentioning a star career as a kind of "motivation magnet") and helping people to feel good with their art (making these people self-confident thus be interested to develop further) is - radically and ... realistically seen the ideal way to make them be prepared for a big success. But this success then comes from their "heart" instead of their greed - what shows up in the art they produce. The difference in my opinion is, that motivation is based on the interest of individual skills, in become a real artist, instead of "only" a producer of god-knows-whatsoever. I mentioned, that music has changed throughout the years from many real artists to many people, whose basic interest is the sale of products. Be these products chewing gum, newspaper or music - doesn't matter. Only interesting is a big (=financial) success. And look around in our music world today: Many completely colorless, pale and "thin" "artists", whose main ability is looking awesome in front of a camera, ... although they are the "stars" of the music industry, they are in respect to their real art work nobody's. You make a very good job in giving guidance in building such skills, but... that's much more constructive than waking up dreams, which - mostly - will remain a dream forever... and - as stated - you are way too intelligent to really believe in such dreams. Of course they will become true for a hand full of people. But it is much more important to strengthen people's self-confidence and self-esteem than to let them run after dreams that become reality for a handful of people (and I claim here provocatively that these people would also get to the "top" without much help!), but ultimately remain pipe dreams for the great masses, which at best leave behind the great frustration. So don't misunderstand me: As "trainer" giving Hints, tips, guidance... you make a very good job and surely will help many people a lot. But... regarding goal setting for motivation you ... sorry, don't convince me at all.
@@AlanCarson726 That's it, you got it. And... be honest: It would help not only in one aspect, because more satisfied artists making an artwork they're convinced of - their very own personal art. And it helps to make people really become artists, instead only of "producers". This would help the quality of music considerably.
@@AlanCarson726 This: ruclips.net/video/Q2VEg02xNV0/видео.html is a link to someone, who was really very lucky.... what helped him to escape a near-fail (he struggled heavily). Interesting, because this guy was l u c k y - that's something like a lottery, which is known to end without profit for the majority of players. Rvrn though some are lucky - the vast majority is going to give up before because of a lack of resources, Schools, on the other hand, always gain, because no matter whether someone ends up producing music or simply sell hot dogs - he pays money to a school before. So the schools are a similar type of winners basically like the lottery organizers - they gain always and reliable.
My fire goal is to play my music around the world for thousands of people, the thought gives me chills! Thanks for this tutorial Will, definitely something I needed! Do you think that you may be able to make some progressive house like deadmau5 - Bridged by a Lightwave?
Glad you liked it, Judge! To be honest, I've done a tutorial on Deadmau5 before and there are so many other artists to cover so I am rarely coming back to the same name. Let's see what 2023 will bring :)
I think the latest videos in your channel are overdoing it with the stock videos\effects. Having them once in while can help to change things up a bit, but I find it much more distracting and more difficult to focus on your content when almost every sentence has some new stock video.
"Industry", "production", "success", "marketable", "equipment"... Music is an art form yet "art" is not being mentioned here too frequently... Maybe once... This video is like recipe for starting new company, selling stuff, marketing, business-related chores. Sorry but it sounds just like that. Music is about... "providing value"...? "Providing?" Really? The best music is created when don't give a shit really what are our "objectives", "dividends" and what we "provide". Can music be just... music. Without "industry" ? Please...

This would help the quality of music considerably.

is a link to someone, who was really very lucky.... what helped him to escape a near-fail (he struggled heavily).
Interesting, because this guy was l u c k y - that's something like a lottery, which is known to end without profit for the majority of players. Rvrn though some are lucky - the vast majority is going to give up before because of a lack of resources,
Schools, on the other hand, always gain, because no matter whether someone ends up producing music or simply sell hot dogs - he pays money to a school before. So the schools are a similar type of winners basically like the lottery organizers - they gain always and reliable.
The passion bit hit deep for me. I know I've got it. Time to do the work with the knowledge I've acquired... 👍
Edit: process-based goals, love it.
Awesome! Now onto setting those goals for 2023 :)
Your video always motivates and so useful for me. Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
You're welcome, David, glad you found it helpful! 🙌🏻
I want become a full time hardstyle DJ and Producer
It's a lot of work but it is possible!
This is true, I totally understand. Have a Merry Christmas!

I think the latest videos in your channel are overdoing it with the stock videos\effects. Having them once in while can help to change things up a bit, but I find it much more distracting and more difficult to focus on your content when almost every sentence has some new stock video.
Thank you for your feedback, really appreciate it!

I don't think I did but people will always see what they want to see 🥱
@@EDMTips the guy in the clip maybe looked similar, i thought it was a genius roast
I think the tip "choose your genre" is pointless. How can you make music you don´t like? Of course you already "know" your genre.
If you like multiple genres it’s a bit trickier
"Industry", "production", "success", "marketable", "equipment"... Music is an art form yet "art" is not being mentioned here too frequently... Maybe once... This video is like recipe for starting new company, selling stuff, marketing, business-related chores. Sorry but it sounds just like that. Music is about... "providing value"...? "Providing?" Really? The best music is created when don't give a shit really what are our "objectives", "dividends" and what we "provide". Can music be just... music. Without "industry" ? Please...
