  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Lessig’s talk is a call to action - we must demand election funding reform or we are complicit in the corruption. “Of course it matters,” Lessig implores us.
Lawrence Lessig is the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, and director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University. Previously, Lessig was a professor at Stanford Law School, where he founded the school’s Center for Internet and Society, and at the University of Chicago. He also clerked for Judge Richard Posner on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Antonin Scalia on the United States Supreme Court.

Lessig spent a decade arguing for sensible intellectual property law updated for the digital age. He was a founding board member of Creative Commons, an organization that builds better copyright practices through principles established first by the open-source software community.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I wonder what could happen if this message made it out to every person of voting age.
Lessig is a true American hero.

How can we the people ignore such logic? Why is this idea not spreading? The evidence, logic, idea, and plan is 100% correct and is everything the "99%" has been asking for and we have been very reverent in our pleas for change. Solution.
    Spam this idea!!!

I recently watched a speaker on LinK-TV, no recall on his name, and Link-TV has ran it more than once, but it was the concept of all business becoming CO-OPs; employees owning and completely running their company. Work Mon-Thurs with Friday as the employee meeting. The employees not only have great incentive to perform well owning their share in the CO., but they also make and vote for how much the CEO should make, etc. Much more to it, but a town in Italy has been extremely successful doing CO-OPs, and now they're growing internationally to the U.S. They pay for the schools, health care-long term aging, everything the community they live in needs.

We can learn a lot from this. Particularly, in countries like Brazil, where we have the "same" system without the rule of law. Can you imagine the disaster?

Nothing better than watching Lessig's TED talks. Here is a link to Princeton papers referenced in the talk: scholar.princeton.edu/mgilens/pages/research
"Multivariate analysis indicates that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little or no independent influence"

Spot on, how this overt corruption will be unthinkable to future generations. Unless future generations are past thinking for themselves.

This is brilliant, he explains the delusion of democracy so well, this is the kind of stuff I'm always interested to hear and know about! Plutocracy.. government for the rich, by the rich, to ensure things stay exactly as they are.. In American politics, Only Money Talks! Not the people! Not Cool!
"not the rich, more than the poor."

These ideas, that are so ably presented here, are worthy of Our productive response. But We, the "99.95%", should go further than Representative Democracy" and become the policy makers of Our Own Nation. This is the worthy goal of Our Nation's Destiny.
So. Let Us learn to WORK together to promote and realize the ideas in this presentation, so that We can do even More as the Many.
Only through more education and a willingness to WORK with each other, can We accomplish this ultimate goal.
My gratitude to "T.E.D.-x" and Lawrence Lessig, for bringing this valuable message to Us.

YOU have to be the change you want. YOU have to be one to step up and step out to do it. YOU, YOU, YOU! I see so many here (commentators) asking where they can go, where this is happening. If no one is doing it, what do YOU do? Then YOU have to start it. YOU have to organise.

So. Where are the specific ideas for solution to the mess We have? Where are the overwhelming and "progressing" discussions (that include Our votes for what We are to do?) where We are demonstrating Our growing awareness of Our Plight and are increasing Our Resolve to actually begin to do More and More about Our Dismal New World Order Mess?!?!
Please direct me to the place where this is happening?

Specific Idea For Solution: "A Volunteer Force of American Citizens that builds Message Pathways (Citizen Media Outlets) to Ourselves...OUTSIDE OF CORPORATE and NEW WORLD ORDER CONTROL!!!!
We must build these vital arteries for Our Nation's Evolution for Free. We The Many can do this!

probably never, this is part of the political strategy of politicians that they get people upset but not enough to actually do anything but to cause the citizens to become apathetic.

There are meny people's who have been "wronged" and/or enslaved throughout the ages why is he focusing on only one of the many things that have/are happened/happening and that had happened over 150 years ago?

    • @daniellangdon9418
      @daniellangdon9418 8 лет назад +2

+CommanderLVJ1 Because it is an exact parallel to the current situation and nobody would even attempt to arguee that it was right to act like that back then. Hence it is equally not right now.
