Ketone is called a prochiral centre as it is achiral (trigonal planar geometry), but it can become chiral after undergoing reaction like nucleophilic addition.

Why you used L*-chiral ligand in enantioselective reaction
Nice question! 🙂.... When we used LiAlH4, we got racemic mixture. So to get one particular enantiomer as major product, we use chiral ligand to increase enantiomeric excess. You can read this paper for more information:
