    🔵🔵🔵 SHOWING SUPPORT FOR ROWALONG 🔵🔵🔵
    I've been asked a few times about the best way to support what I'm doing. Honestly, the best way is just to watch and subscribe using this link: / @rowalong )
    More views lead to more views - and I'm really just interested in getting more people on board to RowAlong with. (Make sure to click the notification bell to be alerted when I upload new workouts)
    That said, I know that there are some people who want to show their support financially, and as much as I've shied away from giving out links to this before - I've been advised to at least provide the links - to stop someone spoofing me!! So....
    Patreon: / rowalong
    PayPal: www.paypal.com...
    But seriously - just keep watching, that's all I ask!!
    🔵🔵🔵
    This workout is provided as usual WITHOUT MUSIC. If you want music, why not load up another RUclips tab, or maybe Soundcloud and pick your own tunes. As always, follow me for stroke rate. And I'll keep you company for the row with training tips, technique tips, and my usual general waffle.
    For more information about drag factor, the plans and what this is all about, head to www.rowalong.com For more about indoor rowing in general, go to www.indoorrowinginfo.com
    See you in the next video.
    ℹℹℹℹℹℹ - 2K training paces are based on your current best performance to row 2000m. Set your monitor to 2000m and row it as fast as you can. When you're finished either look at the memory screen for that row, and note the Average /500m pace - or just divide your time by 4 to find that out.
    For instance - if you rowed your 2000m in 8:20 - the average pace for 500m is 2:05. It doesn't matter if you started at 1:50 and then slowed down to 2:20 by the end - your average across the whole row is 2:05.
    So when I give a pace guide saying "2K + 18 seconds" - that means that you take your 2K time, and add 18 seconds to it (in the above example, 2:05 + 18 = 2:23 pace.) Just be sure to set your monitor so it displays your /500m pace so you can stay on target.
    Every time you think you're getting faster, rather than just arbitrarily changing the pace guide - do another 2000m test to find your current 2K average time - and then work from that. ℹℹℹℹℹℹ

    Agree with the "shorts, shirt & shoes" part. For me reducing detractions is most important to keep going (no need to set up the machine, but have it ready to go; no commute to the gym, etc). Especially if you have a rower at home, there is so little you have to do to start a session. Fall out of your bed and instead of hopping into the shower directly, make a stop over at the rower. Ideally have a rowing plan so you don't waste time to think about what to do today.

    Welcome back! Covid hit my family a few weeks ago, and though I wasn't affected, I stopped rowing while taking care of hubby and kids. I finally hit the gym yesterday and I plan to begin rowing soon.

    Great to see you in a good shape!
    My personal motivation is migraine. Thanks to sport and intensive aerobic sessions like rowing or cycling my attacks disappeared. I have not had migraine attack for some 9 years now. So every time I feel lazy and unmotivated, I recall how a migraine attack feels and in no time I sit on the rower or a bicycle.
    During John's recovery break I used his library of trainings and liked to take, of course, bottom-tier workouts. But during workouts I pushed the pace, just for fun and it resulted in a decent mid-tier workout ;-). Moreover, I remember how I felt when I had some 5 years of zero physical activity. Nightmare. Even everyday life was exhausting. Sport is just as necessary as food and sleep. That's why I bought a rower, despite the fact, that it was quite expensive. But it was the best sport purchase for me.

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 года назад

      I thnk that line says it all "Sport is just as neccessary as food and sleep". You're completely right. And the great thing is, it's always there. It's just a matter of either continuing to do it, or coming back to it.

    I'm 74000m away from 2 million meters, should be done by the end of the month and all done in 10 month. I didn't expect to get near a million in the first year of rowing. Also about 15Kg / 2+ stones down and I got signs of "guns" too, which I never had LOL
    All because of your motivation. Thanks John.

    Thank you for this awesome video. My rowing machine didn’t look like the ones in the video it’s just that I haven’t been hitting it consistently since I got my booster shot before new years. I was going 4 to 5 times a week and I went down to one or two so tonight I found my shirt my shorts and my shoes and I just went on the tower for 30 minutes. Felt great! Your timing was impeccable thanks again John!!

    Great to see you back!! Losing my rowjo a little due to putting in max meters for the VTC. Made my 2 million season meters today, but it was a grind. I’ll keep plugging away until the 31st…..but wondering if I’m actually sabotaging my fitness goals by rowing even when I’m tired. I want to race….but then these challenges come up and I get caught up in putting in lots of distance over working on my 2K time. Thank you for your continued content….I rarely row without you.

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 года назад

      Two sides to this story. 1) You need to take a rest when you're tired. Not only will your body thank you for it, your brain will too. Or - if you're going to plug away for the full 31 days in hopes of maximum metres, promise yourself a couple of days off at the end of it. Do something to celebrate. Look forward to a reward for your hard work. But. 2) All of this rowing WILL be helping you. You may not be working on your actual speed, but the 'bowl of power' you have available to you when you ARE working on speed will be getting bigger and more refined with each of the rows you're doing right now. It's still important not to drain all that power - which is why you need rest days, or to make sure and back of the intensity for day at the very least - but your engine will be improving with these rows.
      And then, it's just a case of adding in some specific speed work tailored for the distances you want to race - and you'll find you've given yourself a turbo boost.

    Welcome back, John! Hope you’re feeling better. Now, I haven’t lost the motivation to get on the machine, but I have rather plateaued in terms of performance. I really want to crack that 7min barrier for 2k but I just can’t seem to do it. I’ll be 50 years old next year and at 175cm and lightweight (less than 70kg at ‘fighting weight’) I wonder if age and size are against me… any tips to boost the power endurance?

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 года назад +1

      Can you get to around 1:45 but just not hold it for the duration of the 2k?
      Or is it a confidence thing?
      The 1,2,3,4,3,2,1 session is great if it’s a confidence thing.
      The 8 x 2 with 2 mins rest at 2k pace or better is great for endurance.
      But as always, I’d look at technique too. Making sure to properly drive out the front with the legs.
      And look at stroke rate vs drag factor. You can get away with a slightly higher DF if you have a higher stroke rate for the 2k sometimes.
      How close to 6:59.9 are you?

    • @rowalong
      @rowalong  2 года назад

      @@bensugden3009 probably. Yes. The truth is, a 2K is never easy. It's hard work - but that hard work pays off - you will go faster eventually if you put in effort and consistency.

      Life finds a way... And usually it's to get in the way!! If you just consider what your actual priorities are, especially if you're looking to get back to running, then just look at rowing as your maintenance. Your go-to where you can fit in 30 minutes that will give you all you need that day. It's tough I know. And I'm about to go through this myself when I get dragged kicking and screaming away from my home desk and into the office.
