Our next early retirement travel stop during our freedom years was also our 50th state, North Dakota. We take you on a 350 mile adventure across the state as we joined the Best for Last Club in Fargo ND by making North Dakota our 50th state visited and show you other things to do in North Dakota.
We visited Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, ND, although we still like to call it Teddy Roosevelt National Park. Did you know the Teddy Bear was named after him?
While visiting some North Dakota attractions in Medora, we went to the Pitchfork Steak Fondue and Musical. Both of these were wonderful events and highly recommended.
After Medora and the National Park we drove to the Enchanted Highway. It is a 32-mile stretch of country road to Regent, ND with 8 large metal sculptures created by folk artist Gary Greff. It is definitely worth the detour.
We made stops in Center, which is the geographic center of North America and Jamestown to see a Frontier Village and a giant buffalo.
Our final stop was to collect of Best for Last Club T-Shirts in Fargo, ND at the Fargo-Moorhead Visitor Center.

As the #retirementtravelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become #travelvloggers and start a RUclips channel. But, that is what we did! In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

Best for last club, I love it!😂. We did all 50 states, June 2021. (50 by 50). Our last state was Alaska ( we're from MN so ND was #2) and my former co-worker & her son greeted us at the airport with a Congratulations sign. 😍. We are recently retired & going for round 2. Happy Travels to everyone out there.

So, have you seen anyone else wearing the "Best for Last" shirt anywhere else in the world you have been? I really enjoyed seeing the art on the Enchanted Highway. How cool that you got to meet the artist!
We've never seen anyone else wearing a shirt, but it was fun going through the ceremony! We had a nice time in North Carolina.

At the age of 83 I've managed to visit all fifty states and many countries in all the continents of the world. Yours is the only North Dakota video tour I've watched that interviewed the enchanted highway sculptor and got a Best for Last Club tee shirt. Your production values are excellent and I love your choice of music. Keep on truckin' !!!
P.S.: I entered North Dakota first. I was born there and resided on a farm near Tioga for 17 years. My grandparents on both sides were homesteaders in Williams and Divide County. I think I got a great education there and found the people to be the best of the lot. But the wanderlust took over and I ended up taking a trip to California in my 1957 VW bug where I went to college at Cal in Berkeley, and the rest is history. I go back to ND for my high school reunions as often as possible.

Just found your channel. I actually live now in Moorhead, Mn. I did live in ND many years. I retired to Florida but after Hurricane Irma I decided I had enough. So I’m back in the Midwest. I actually grew up on the East Coast but after service I visited a brother in Minot. I was hooked. I actually prefer the Eastern side of ND. So seeing you visit a state where I truly like better then where I grew up. It’s the people, that’s the secret of why it’s amazing. The Western side has found oil but seriously the jewel of ND are the people. Nice video. 😎👍🇺🇸

North Dakota is definitely on my list! I am a Teddy Roosevelt enthusiast, so want to go to the national park. David McCollough has a book called Brave Companions that has an essay about Roosevelt and Medora. Congratulations on 50 states!

Thank you for a respectful N.D. interpretation. I-94 really doesn't represent us well. Our prettiest places are crossed at the narrowest spot, instead of followed.White Earth river valley. Big muddy valley. Pembina river gorge. Medora rightfully gets a lot of attention. If American Indian culture is interesting, N.D. has a lot. Winters are vicious.

That's the thing that might keep me from moving there- the winters? Do you have backup generators?
@@fremontpathfinder8463 of course. Not necessarily because of winters. They get used more often for primitive camp sights and rural non-energy area building sites. Backup generators are just a plus.
@@billortloff4215 I want to move right up near the Canadian border if I don't get permanent residency there in Canada. That's why I am considering ND. I love Canada so much I just want to be as close as possible and ND has affordable housing just minutes from the borders
@Fremont Pathfinder northern n.d. is very sparsely populated and has nothing but barb wire fence between n.d. and the north pole... just sayin. Good luck.

We're hope to visit ND next summer. That steak fondue is going to be one of our stops, just don't tell my cardiologist. Loved the music while on the Enchanted Highway. So cool that you were able to interview the creator. That's some cow! Save the Best for Last Club is such a great idea. 👍

Born in Devils Lake. Grew up in Bismark and Fargo-Morehead. What memories. The winters in N.D are BRUTAL and ice fishing in Minnesota is nice. What a great place to grow up, Eh!

Theodore Roosevelt National Park for Mountain biking on the 100 mile Maah Daah Hey trail is fabulous. The restaurant in Medora has changed since I was there 20 years ago! It was great back then, but pretty quiet. If you drive through the park, and there are Buffalo on the road just keep going- they will get out of the way.

We met you last year in St. Augustine, Fl night of lights trolly tour. You both were dressed up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. It was so much fun. We hope you come back this year and help us celebrate the birth of Jesus.

I live in Maine and I am heading to ND soon for my first travel nurse assignment! I ll be in the middle of nowhere but hope to do lots of exploring in both ND and SD

In 2022, I traveled coast to coast, as far south as San Antonio, TX and as far north as the San Juan Islands, WA. I have 8 states to hit all 50. I plan on adding ND, SD, and MN this year. My final state will be a cruise to AK.

Looks a great state to visit in the summer time but come winter time wow those temperatures are so low and it lasts for so long too, you have to be tough to survive through that time of year but clearly lots of people do survive its hard winters as its a growing state.
Lots to see there found it really interesting thanks for the video.

You didn't go to the North Unit? Or do the South Unit loop for the wild horses? There's lots to see in the northern and southern sections of the state too. Kenmare was one of my favorite little towns.

@@RetirementTravelers He's right. Our last trip we saw bald eagles nesting and herds of wild horses that came right up to the road; loved the bison and prairie dogs, too. Bismarck has a lovely museum and there's a nice small dinosaur museum in Dickinson. I hope you do go back. (Just not in winter!)
