  • A short un-scripted explanation of how I make these prog documentaries.
    Before they're all wiped by the copyright bots!
    Seriously, if you have anything you like repeatedly watching, I suggest downloading it using a RUclips ripping site - here is a good one:

    A little bit of impromptu fun here to explain some of how I make these videos. I forgot to mention that some people very, very close to the bands (friends, family, management and people involved in the actual production of the albums) have contacted me over the last year to say how much they enjoyed the videos, and like YOUR comments, this all means a lot to me.
    Hope you enjoy this short 'home-made' video until the next real (rael) one.

    Speaking strictly for myself - when your videos appear on my YT dashboard it is a good day. Like a bolt from beyond telling me to take a time out and rediscover something that I’ve been listening to for many, many years. I love them.
    And yes - it would be an incredibly surreal feeling to go to the mailbox and pull out something written in the “Duke” font. As if the album and the story of the album just took a weird turn into the present and you’re part of it. Well, actually, you ARE part of it now.

    these are the best prog rock documentaries on youtube, quite unique stuff, never seen this kind of format, the multitrack mixes are awesome, I see a really new video language / format here, very consistent, like shining new lights to each classic album or piece of music history, feels like listening to well known classic albums for the 1st time again.. amazing job ! thanks!!

Gracias!!

      Just looked at it. I agree, it's incredible, but for me, it would mean (1) I have no challenge and (2) I'd miss the art aspect of it. Pushing pixels around on a screen manually and making decisions about it is like ART for me. It's very relaxing.

    Hey Rael! I love these videos and hope you can keep them up and growing! I have a special playlist I've made up so hopefully if the worst happens, I've got copies of them! I save your vid of a particular album and then follow it with the full album. Then I can watch you explain all about how it was made then listen to the album again with "new ears!" It really enhances the enjoyment of the album!
    It's also great to hear a fellow Scouser providing a background to some of my favourite music! It takes me right back to the 70's and early 80's when we could actually afford to buy tickets to see these bands! (Unlike today when it costs hundreds of pounds to see bands in a field where you are half a mile from the stage!!)
    Keep up the good work, sir! I'm looking forward to seeing where you take us next!

    You mentioned cleaning up the images you use, and colourizing a lot of them. Do you use Photoshop for that? Photoshop's Neural Filters have both Restoration and Colorize functions, and they work remarkably well, and perhaps more importantly from your point of view, very quickly. This is Ai of course, or what Adobe call Sensei, and it is making the sort of work that people like myself do from decades of experience, available to everyone. I can tell you that your hard work is much appreciated. I have only just found your channel, and I am working my way though your entire catalog.

    • @TrevorDennis100
      @TrevorDennis100 8 месяцев назад

      I made the above comment part way in to this video, and I am now hearing that you add background to change aspect ratio of some images. Photoshop's Ai now has something they call Generative Expand that automatically fills in the image when you add canvas. Unfortunately, I think if you have the cheap Photography Plan, it limits what they call Generative Credits, and you only get something like 100 goes per month.

    The “Mashup” term or a disclaimer should be used rather than stamping it as authentic Genesis, for example. It’s like painting a copy of a Monet and signing it with a Monet signature. That’s a problem.

      Not quite. The copyright bots are just automatically scanning a waveform pattern, not reading the disclaimer. What Im doing is producing a doc on Monet and not being allowed to use his paintings in it, something that could still be educational, but not half as good.

    You could use "stable diffusion a1111" for image enhancing. There is no shame in using some AI for doing at least polishing work.

    They’re brilliant these vids mate. Would it not help if you put a link to the original music and a disclaimer in the description? That might keep them happy

      I show it in this video. It was an audio only upload. A reimagining of the Genesis Tresspas album, called 'The Sheperd'. Obviously my upload denies them the millions they would earn from royalties from it....😏

    Hello just a quick message I really enjoy your videos how long does it take to make one? bye for now

    • @progrockdocs
      @progrockdocs  Год назад +1

      About 2 months. A month doing the script and images then 2 weeks each for the soundtrack and the actual video editing.

      @rael nyc Thanks for the message. Please keep the videos coming. One of my favorites is the making of Relayer by YES. A few of the bands I've seen live. I was at the first Relayer tour in 1975 at Queens Park Rangers football ground and Genisis Lamb tour, I think it was at Empire Pool around the same time, bye for now, Melvyn Parkin
