fucking discipline, that's what's football is missing nowadays. he'd bring the football to what it was back then, when he was referee, players were too afraid to dive, because they knew he would see it and they would get punished and most of all, they had a respect to this beautiful sport. what a hero, pierluigi collina. football needs heroes like him today.
Collina was one of the referees that Moggi attempted to have punished for decisions that Collina made against Juventus. In an intercepted phone call, Moggi claimed that Collina and his colleague Roberto Rosetti were too "objective" and should be "punished" for it thats the highest praise a referee can get, respect
Collina is the best refree ever and rizzoli is the best referee now. They both are italian. So italy has got the best referees (and some very good fottballers)
+Dongongodo To be honest, I also think that Italians have given football someof the best referees. I totally agree with him that Rizzoli is the best man for the job in Europe, and Colina was one of the best ever. Most British refs are solid, but tend make stupid/funny mistakes, and in England the pressure on the game is so big that sometimes they fear to take action. And the Spanish ones are just plain terrible. I watch all La Liga games I can, and their level is awfully low for one of the best leagues in Europe.
It's incredible, he was such a great personality, he barely had to speak to players to impose himself. everyone respected him and his decision, good or bad they were. I am a referee myself and gaining respect from players and people is the biggest challenge for a ref. This man used to achive this in such a simple way. Big big personality
The best referee i have ever seen officiate a football match. i just remember the 2002 world cup final between Brazil and Germany in South Korea and Japan. Pierluigi Collina will always be ma best ref i have ever seen, missing him in the pitch.
obviously Byron Moreno was bought, but years later he got busted for trying to smuggle heroine into the US and unfortunately only did 2 years when the max was 10, bummer.
Best referee i ever saw, totally objective. First time i saw him was a game in italy, i think it was a cup final or a semi final, we used to get those games in england on channel 4. Anyway, something happened i cant remember what it was, and everyone was losing their heads lots of drama, might have been fans kicking off or something, and this guy was cool as fuck. He just let people go off, all the players were hyped and he was completely calm, allowed the situation to resolve itself and then continued the game like a boss.
It's a thankless job, but he did it with pride, admiration and flawlessness. The best ref football will ever know and the only ref who ever got asked to swap shirts with a player. He loved the game and he poured that passion into his job. It showed. If he made a call then you didn't argue. It was the right call.
he is the only ref in the history whose wife is not a cheater... i wish there were more like him, correct, strict but fair, honest, funny at times and most important he is the GOAT
+mafiq1102 watch the players when he speaks to them/disciplines them. Massive respect for him they barely argue. He obviously had personality and passion for the game unlike a lot of refs today. Don't blame them though the players have made it hard for referees to bring personality to the game these days and instead they seem fearful/nervous about making mistakes.
I like how nobody argues with his calls, they just take it and walk away because they know he's right.
U still here after years

El mejor árbitro de la historia ; grande maestro ... Bendiciones sr collina
The difference with him and other refs Is that he knows his own authority and didn't take any shit
Collina is the best refree ever and rizzoli is the best referee now. They both are italian. So italy has got the best referees (and some very good fottballers)
