On July 25th 1991, I lost my girlfriend . she died in a plane crash in a forest of kaoris in the mountains of Santo in Vanuatu . Cassandra Clunies Ross was 25 years old. She was a VSO volunteer working in forestry.WE found her camera ,processed the film and her last shot was of a kaori tree.I also had a cd by bruce Cockburn with this song on it. Probably listened to this song a 1000 times and every time I cried not only because I was devastated but also because this is a superb song.

Bruce Cockburn has one of Canada's most beautiful singing voices! I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Bruce many years ago in Dawson City at the music festival. He asked me if I was one of the people who prepared the wonderful food and I told him I was not. I was another performer at the festival. He said that the food was great and I agreed. He was so nice that he wanted to compliment someone on taking such good care of us! 🥰

As the Amazon today burns, Bruce foretold us 30 years ago of the coming demise. Nobody listened then , nobody listens now. See the forest fall, ...and with it, ourselves.
I listened last night when I saw him live. Everyone there seemed to connected to his message. I hope humanity can move forward with more intelligence. Art is a powerful way to share and he does this so beautifully.
it would be great if there was a way to revive this video through an international environmental protest action whereby people planting trees is mixed with the imagery of the original video...short clips of people doing the same thing...
I worked in the big palm oil plantations many years ago. But I remember the frightened ,sad look on the face of the Orangs that we dispatched to the spirit world.

Bruce Cockburn who gave an exceptionally brilliant, authentic message of hope and inspiration to the Laurier University Teachers College and Music Grads yesterday (June 14, 2024) as he was given an Honourary Doctorate of Music! Degree
A consumate musician with a humanitarian conscience. Something that this myopic money hungry world abandoned half a century ago. Unsurprisingly, all that follows is the end!
I watched with my Mother and her Sister my Aunt Aggie Live at the Forum along with Martha & the Muffins in the early '80,s sitting on the Lawn very few people there at that Time yet what a musical pleasure to behold.!!!
Saw Bruce at a church on Bloor near Spadina in like 1981-82. He had was accompanied by Guatemalan refugees. I then realized it was a part of a fund raising campaign for the refugees. We emptied our pockets. He performed many songs and I think it was the first time he performed "If I had a rocket Launcher" live. Good times!

I have seen the best of the best in my time. That probably doesn't come close to what was. This man is not only the best songwriter I've ever heard..hes the the best guitar player I've ever seen. Truly, and what a gentleman. I floated back to my camper trailer at the Winnipeg folk festival 2006....sober and had the best sleep i ever had.. I am 54 years past, and my son is 3. He loves Bruce as much as me. EXTRAORDINARY.
This song is an indictment of big business, with a message 38 years old now, and yet there are still deniers. I spent hours with my Telecaster trying to get that chiming tone. Lotsa Boss effect later…. A great song underpinned with a great riff.

This guy is great and too smart for the common folk. Any artist who lyrically forces you to think, question things and go against the grain never gets his shine or gets to smell the roses. Sad really

When I heard this song in 1988, I knew that our planet was in serious trouble. Now 30 years later, have we really made any progress. Simply NO! The relentless burning off fossil fuels and the greed of the world’s greedy commercial system is destroying this planet - it’s all about money, profits - at the expense of animals, humans and the climate.
i just like the song always have considering im a bushwacker , i would rather live far away in the forest alone than cut it down, if you have a good stereo the picking in this is awesome
This is a video everyone on Earth should see! Greatness in every aspect of music and video production to truly get a message across ... and to boot being a vegetarian (at least I was from the age of 17 and 3/4) leads to a healthier existence and makes it easier on the planet, the environment and everyone. I'm sharing this baby on Facebook everyday! You should too!
I'm sorry to have to tell you but it will never change! Governments and corporations will do what they want as they always have - and that's just the way it is.

I'm not an environmentalist by any means however Bruce Cockburn's song addresses an actual problem and calls attention to it by elevating it to an almost heroic artistic act of concern.
People like you should try to get more eco-friendly. Instead of going the run of the mill way straight into corporate control and a facist military state. When are you going to realize without healthy forests there is no fish, birds, insects, water, mammals, or oxygen?
@@rmlfilms123 Meanwhile, Europe culled seals who were devouring the fish that people ate. Left them to rot. Shame about Canada's Indigenous People using the seals for sustainable furs (unlike the plastics used in synthetic materials that PETA loves so much that clog up the ecosystem) and food.
I don't know much about this bloke, but this song is about nature and a political statement. Midnight oil from Australia are also sing the same agenda Great music
He's one of our Canadian treasures. From Ottawa moved to my home city Toronto where he did most of his work. This "protest song" was almost uncool in the greed soaked 1980s. It was way ahead of the times. The world needs to hear it now and weep and ask for forgiveness.
We hippies have to relive our youth and the revolution continues. The sound track was laid down in the 1900s and the heavy lifting will continue til we get it right. Til then, the band plays on. ShakeUp

Bruce Cockburn is THE BEST political songwriter.
Sounds like hyperbole at first, but if you think about it, you are right
@Peter A. I disagree. We especially need more political songwriters (of the progressive kind, of course).

Are you still alive?
This Artist is an icon along with Joni Mitchell.....Canada Heritage at its best......rick.
OMG..... The second coming of
Very important music everyone must hear ... Awaken America!
This is exactly what the world has come to, this is a sad end for Earth.😔🌍🌎🌏
100 O/O Correct ❤.
Yes. After being involved with conservation for fifty years. My hopes are gone 🥲
@@jacobfinder7476 I sadly agree with you 👍🙏
@@jacobfinder7476Ignorance and apathy are the greatest pandemics and there is no cure, since it requires instilling people with intellectual curiosity, ethics, empathy, critical thinking and patience to read. All those traits are dying quick deaths in current society.
And no one cares, because there is money to be made...(for a very few, the others have to suffer... by design; capitalism 2.0)
He's making a lot of sense now isn't he, our planet is finished with us, very soon!!
Most well meaning lyrics and earnest musician. True gentle soul.
Another masterpiece from Bruce. What a stellar song!
1988 but where have we gone from here with this songs message? We are still destroying the planet 🌍
7/13/91 Darien Lake, Bruce opened up for Bob Weir and Rob Wasserman. What a great day/night.
“Forever” gets me every time. 😢

One of the best guitar hooks, so tight and catchy, up there with the best of Nick Lowe or Elvis Costello. He is so underrated as a musician.
Love them .excited to see them in August.😊
Never heard this track before til today. It's almost Lou Reed meets Zappa or something. This is strong.
First time for me now, too. I would say Lou Reed set to Country-Rock. It is very strong.
First time here too.
This guy is great and too smart for the common folk. Any artist who lyrically forces you to think, question things and go against the grain never gets his shine or gets to smell the roses. Sad really
Holy shit this is magic. How can anything modern ever hold a candle to this? This man knows how to whammy bar.
Bruce is a living legend. Inspiration for me becoming a vegetarian
He Bruce should inspire yourself to be a Beautiful Human Being and Respecting Humanity as well as Nature.!!!
why does some of the best music on youtube have the least hits
Asphalt - so much of it - creates urban heat islands that raise the temp by more than most ppl realize. Forests, vegetation, etc actually reduces temperatures
And now sinkholes happening!!!
welcome to southwest Florida...
outrageous down here.
and nobody gives a shit.
I love this song ,,i hope people listen

When I heard this song in 1988, I knew that our planet was in serious trouble. Now 30 years later, have we really made any progress. Simply NO! The relentless burning off fossil fuels and the greed of the world’s greedy commercial system is destroying this planet - it’s all about money, profits - at the expense of animals, humans and the climate.
Yep.
I ran to a tree that fell got out of da Wood
Can not wait to see you tonight in Flagstaff, Bruce. Right On! Power To The People!!
Love this song. Bruce is so in touch with our world.
Yes. If I had a rocket launcher, some SOB WOULD die. I would retaliate, not hesitate!
i just like the song always have considering im a bushwacker , i would rather live far away in the forest alone than cut it down, if you have a good stereo the picking in this is awesome
I love Bruce Cockburn his a very good Singer of all time God 🙏 him
I should go plant trees now 🎶
A great song and the video clip brings a tear to my eye. Did anybody hear you, Bruce?
Brilliant man who was way ahead of the curve.
chilling.2021 i hear it scream.mother save us.father give her grace.
A voice for the trees......listen......
I remember when this song came out over thirty years ago. Thirty years! Why was nothing done? Now are we facing the end?
Thanks for your honest and sincere love towards my work,we have you to be most thankful for . 💓🙏
@@jamesc4812 What now Bruce? We trashed our home.
I'm sorry to have to tell you but it will never change! Governments and corporations will do what they want as they always have - and that's just the way it is.
Yes
Great song!

Grrr, wish I'd written this SMFH, thanks Bruce Cockburn for being a global conscience for the masses!
Bruce - a great Canadian and an even GREATER song writer
I have a metric tonne of respect and admiration for the man, always have. 🇨🇦
Its good Canada has such a unique artist as Bruce Cockburn
Shame about the annual Seal hunt though.
Ya
Rita-Marie Lawlor... shame on you.
Only natives to the land that do a seal hunt. They were doing it long before the white man came and they do not waste the resources that come from it.
@@rmlfilms123 Meanwhile, Europe culled seals who were devouring the fish that people ate. Left them to rot. Shame about Canada's Indigenous People using the seals for sustainable furs (unlike the plastics used in synthetic materials that PETA loves so much that clog up the ecosystem) and food.
great songwriter about nature with suburb lyrics
Still love this great track!
I don't know much about this bloke, but this song is about nature and a political statement.
Midnight oil from Australia are also sing the same agenda
Great music
I love Midnight Oil!!
I live in Oz and midnight oil is highly reguared 😁
He's one of our Canadian treasures. From Ottawa moved to my home city Toronto where he did most of his work. This "protest song" was almost uncool in the greed soaked 1980s. It was way ahead of the times. The world needs to hear it now and weep and ask for forgiveness.
We hippies have to relive our youth and the revolution continues. The sound track was laid down in the 1900s and the heavy lifting will continue til we get it right. Til then, the band plays on. ShakeUp
its so hard to see where we as a people have come from and where we are today sacrificing tomorrow for the profits that can be made today at the expense of all the tomorrows yet to happen. the earth and the generations still left to inherit our raping of nature will be unable to undo the damage done.and this song is an old one from bruce.he along with others have spoken for 2 generations about whats going on.and yet we still dont learn.love his music
Even today in 2019 we still don't get the message...we are still in denial
GREED
GREED
GREED
and MORE GREED
The song is so true about those day now sad we are killing mother earth 🌎 for money 💰 that the truth
