Can custom.scss set custom classes that are applied in line like [text]{.class that changes to bold and color} I've been trying to implement this in my quarto doc but cannot seem to get it to work?

Hi IPowl, glad that you like the tutorial! You can use themes and customize them with scss. Just list first the theme and then the scss-file in your yaml-file. More infos can be found at quarto.org/docs/output-formats/html-themes.html#theme-options
