This kit is really nice. Great design and quality fabrication from what I can see. And they did their homework to ensure that everything is torqued correctly to ensure proper loading. Definately over built to last many seasons. Only suggestion if it hasn't been tried would be to include a thin vinyl sheath or vinyl tape to cover the prop shaft threads to reduce the risk of seal damage. Coming from an engineer, this is a throughly engineered and well built kit. Can't go wrong with this product. I'll be saving my money for one.
I bought the first 10 hp SWOMP Lite 2 1/2 years ago. This is a great long-tail MM system that seems to be unbreakable at this point. Good Work Backwater!!
I often wondered why the Thai long tail boat never became popular in Western countries, and now you guys have done it. A really nice slick thing. Now we just need to pout a V8 on there like the Thais do LOL
maverick hayes, SWOMP is the model line of motors built by Backwater Inc. It's an acronym for Sand, Weeds, Obstacles, Mud Propulsion (or alternatively Shallow Water Operation Motorized Propulsion).
Here is an interesting situation. The final lock nut is the narrowest one, and this is wrong as when he tightens it other thicker nut is lifted off its face which had been taking the load and so the whole force is now on the narrowest lock nut. I believe the final lock nut should be the thickest and not the narrowest. Just think about it!! Many put the thinest nut as the final lock nut and this is in my opinion very wrong.
I have a 18 horse Briggs motor I'm thinking of buy a backwater kit for it next year. The motor is 12 years old. We are currently running scavengers backwater setup. I wont dis this the scavenger setup at all just looking for a change in mud motors. I would like some input from the backwaters people. Think l I've been watching alot of your videos in the last 5 days. I really like your guys setup. And what's the best setup for a 1436 jon boat thanks.
trying to hook up a long tail kit to a predator 420cc motors but they sent the wrong mounting bolts can you tell me the size/thread of the bolt holes that are the second set of holes if you start from the shaft going out.. or maybe the middle set of bolt holes... thanks man.
Poorly designed handle, it will be a pain to have to unbolt the handle each time you must change the oil. other than that really nice design and simple installation. two thumbs up!
Hey Jake! Thanks for helping me make my purchase on my new 22hp swamp light kit. Looking forward to using it. TN boy here
This gives me reason to keep my 83 Bass Tracker. This will be so much better for me a Duck boat. Glad I ran across your video.

Well done
All the best

This seems like it would work great with a 406cc 10 Horse Diesel.
you didnt get the bolts tighten before mounting the engine to the boat-that is the bolts holding the tail to the engine .
Somewhere between 15:30 and 16:30 the bolt appears to have mysteriously tightened itself.
Well done
If threads at tail shaft end were slightly small than shaft seal would be installed easier.
What's the cost? When you tilt the motor does it starve for oil?
Can a clutch be added/is it useful?

Thin nut is a nylon lock nut ,it needs to be last 🛠

It’s called, foot pounds per inch. Not lbs per inch.
I need the information so I can order one!!!!!
what is wrong youtube clips do not load
Don't wanna sound foolish, but what about neutral and reverse with this type of motor?
For Neutral you just lift the prop out of the water and reverse where waders and turn it around
Are there any saltwater surface drive mud motors?
Escribo desde Colombia a orillas del río Magdalena deseó saber cuánto es el valor del acople del motor

That's a lot of weight on the thin aluminum crankcase cover.
I think the weight is carried by the tubular case that holds onto the shaft

+Jake Chandler They could have easily put the handle under the motor to make oil changing easy.
Most engines have oil drain on both sides.
