Once I started experiencing the benefits of yoga and Tai chi during and immediately after my sessions with these activities, I was able to find ways to have similar experiences during other activities, like weight and resistance training or hiking. This made these activities calming, centering, and depression relieving also.❤
In addition to mental health benefits, I know that tai chi has physical benefits like improving balance and coordination, so thanks for the reminder to try incorporating this activity into my routine!
Great video. I am trying to learn yoga (I have a mat now! ) as well as ten -20 minutes mindful meditating. I am bipolar and it really helps to slow down thoughts and sometimes find some peace. I also think as well as pills, talking therapy, keeping connections and eating/sleeping, I find playing my guitar and singing is good. Even basic mixing on turntables. I find music to be a powerful tool to unlock memories. I am 100% behind everything you say Dr as ever.
I first tried yoga after suffering brain damage from an overdose of thyroid hormones by my endocrinologist, which put my brain in constant fight, flight, or freeze mode. It was the only thing that helped my brain activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Yoga continues to save my sanity and my life. I practice Hatha and Yin yoga, both of which involve body awareness and tying the breath to the movements. Thank you for explaining the science behind why this practice is so beneficial to mental health.
Interesting, because the only yoga that really works for me are hot yoga classes. The intensity of that is what really allows my mind to shut down & get me to focus on my body & the experience. (I have ADHD with a super chatty brain, so maybe that’s it.) But thanks for the reminder about why I love it (and hate it at the same time ‘cause it’s so darn hot & it’s like I have to fight myself to stay out of fight-or-flight sometimes, but to calm myself enough to continues seems to be part of the point for me).
I disagree. Yoga is just some dumb position mixed with stretching. Just get rid of the dumb positions and do stretching. Much more efficient and much more healthy.

I am more the hiking type. That helps me the most

Thanks so much Paul. Playing music sounds very relaxing. And yes playing music is a great way to decompress (listening too 😊) ❤️

I’m going to incorporate this into my weekly movement routine. Thanks!
Sounds great!
3:24 - I don't think it's going to help me normally talking to a girl that I am attracted to... 😂
Say Dr Marx, who is that in the cover photo? 🤔
Oh I thought that was her! Very impressive 👏🏼
An unrealistically sexy version of me. 😀 I'm working on it though. 🤣

Good thing you’re not a doctor then
