Hey y'all, I wanted to quickly let you know I've seen your comments and wanted to reiterate some of the most commonly seen points: 1. I am aware Optimus not being inHasLab was an assumption made by the designers, not a rule. 2. Evan, one of the Hasbro designers, has seen the number of people wanting a Splendid Convoy repaint and has stated that nothing is off the table, implying it's a possibility Hasbro could consider repaints in HasLab. There's a lot of "ifs" in this response, but the fact they've acknowledge it at all is very interesting. 3. I'm completely aware that HasLab was probably the best way to create Omega Prime. It would have been a gamble on Hasbro's part to take up two Commander slots for two consecutive years and hope Magnus sells enough. Not to mention the scale HasLab has for both characters, allowing better engineering and stability across all modes. The overall bang for your buck with the whole package being in HasLab is irrefutably stellar. My hopes it'd be in retail comes from a person who is both a fan of RID2001 and a casual collector, so you can see the complication. 4. I want to be completely transparent and let y'all know I do not think Omega Prime is a BAD thing for HasLab. His existence creates an interesting discussion, one of which I wanted to offer my two cents on. Despite the title and thumbnail, I think the future of HasLab is VERY promising for fans of niche series if the quality on this is delivered. It's just that RUclips's an algorithm and I'm a smaller channel. Thanks for reading! We'll be back with more Transformers and no -Transformers content within the week. Stay tuned!

I don’t see a problem with this haslab . Yes I understand hasbro said Optimus prime will never be a haslab but this isn’t for Optimus prime it’s for omega prime . Sucks that Optimus needs to be part of it but it is what it is . $250 isn’t even that bad of a price tag. It’s gonna be even worst if prime and magnus gets a separate release and I bet you that collectors will pay even more just to get both figure due to scalpers . So I believe that hasbro went with the best option for everyone especially for RID fans .
Turns out it wasn't Hasbro who said HasLab would never do an Optimus Prime. It was an employee who simply assumed they would never do an Optimus Prime. Which means a Powermaster Optimus Prime (with Apex Amor) is back on the table!
Yeah, I think the HasLab is great, but it does sting that Optimus is in it. As a huge fan of RID 2001 though, I am very excited to finally have this considering the original toy is hard to come by in great condition and complete for a fair price.
Correction- $250USD is the price in the US. Here in Australia, where Gamestop, or more specifically EB Games, its official Australian distribution partner, is handling the backing, the price is $750AUD, which works out at roughly $525USD. Incidentally, that's exactly how much they were charging for Unicron out here.
No assuming needed about the “no optimus primes in Haslab” rule being changed, the designers acknowledged it already Edit: Evan has also said a few weeks ago that he’s seen the many requests for a splendid convoy repaint, and responded “Hopefully we can figure something out”. Also, this Haslab follows a precedent set by Victory Saber, having an extremely popular Autobot leader coming packed with a sidekick to combine with. I really don’t see a problem with it here. Side note: if you weren’t able to get SS102, Pulse’s Friday restocks have been sporadically adding him, that’s how I got mine. I really like what they did with this Haslab overall, one cohesive package with everything you could want (maybe except for Bluebolts’s 2 while missiles, but I can model and print those myself).
It's awesome to hear Evan is seeing the community and possibly trying to get Hasbro to co sider repaints; I was not aware of that. Even though I said I think this could have done at retail, I'm completely fine with the HasLab. I can recognize the pros and cons behind the line, which is why I'm still backing it despite not a fan of the FONO- albeit even if it is a naive point of view on my part.
*Technically* this isn't Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. It is Fire Convoy and God Magnus, as they were only renamed in the english dub. Personally I am happy to see these two, as I am excited for the prospect of finally getting an MP quality Gigatron.
"nothing is off the table' is Hasbro's go-to line to describe basically anything. Having a hard time coming up with anything they've given a hard No on Evan's also the one that said there'd be no Optimus in HasLab, and here we are
Bruh something similar happened with PlayStation and spider-man 2, when Spider-Man 2 went on preorder, the collector's edition was only available on PlayStation's website (which was a bad idea) but IDK if it was bad as what's happening here
Oh yeah, I vaguely remember something like that. Collector's Editions for games lately have been handled pretty poorly for some reason. There's no reason for things like that to not be sold through other retailers.
I wholeheartedly believe that Omega Prime is only a Haslab for the toyline's available slots for commander class units. We've seen Deathsaurus moved from commander to haslab, because of Victory Saber's success, instead of a heavy retool of Grimlock. Was DS worth the... 70 USD markup to have it done right, for ONE figure instead of the two(?) of VS? Can't say. As a side note- Last time we got an encore release of OP, the pack was 280 USD, this is already a bargain for having an engineering overhaul while retaining nearly every single feature of the original pairings. I'm expecting that if we get megatron/galvatron from RiD, it's not going to be a haslab, just for the sake of having both color schemes. I've noticed that the TF Victory line had basically combiners as their haslabs, which leads me to believe the next will be something in the ballpark of G2 era. Good video, valid concerns. Other comments already pointed out a high chance for a Splendid redeco of optimus, as nothing's off the table if it prints money (lol).
Really appreciate the compliment, and love the discussion that's come from this. It interests me greatly knowing there's many who'd Deathsaurus was worth it while others may be in the middle or disagree. What we do know is HasLab for Transformers has been doing Hasbro a service and we'll see more of it. If Omega Prime is the gateway to repaints in it, then shoot- that's a whole different discussion right there.
I unpacked my childhood fireconvoy, after moving a few weeks ago, to find out that the humidity kicked his cheeks. I also was unable to get magnus when i was a kid, so i happily set aside some cash for the haslab.
That's a bummer, but I'm glad you managed to back this! I'm very fond of RID Optimus as I had him as a child, but lost him in a move so I have similar reasons behind backing this HasLab.
I think some important things to keep in mind are that 1. This is the most affordable Haslab they have done. Yes it is unfortunate that a Prime is locked to a timed exclusive, but the barrier to entry is very low compared to the previous projects, and you arguably get a lot more than you did with the last combining Haslab being Victory Saber. 2. The last time these two figures were made available as a reissue, they were *more expensive* at $265 in 2018, which is $330 in today's economy. The value of this Haslab is insane, and I can't fault people for jumping in on this. It guarantees that Hasbro has the budget to do the best they can without having to budget around the rest of the toyline, and it cuts out 2 years of wait time for 2 commanders, one of which would bomb at retail. You could make the argument that people outside the US aren't getting the same value, especially Australia, which is an absurd $700 price tag, but this also undercuts the secondary market. You don't have to worry about scalpers getting their hands on one single component and charging $400 for it, at least now any Ebay listing would include the full set, and you aren't left angry at every Wal-Mart because they don't have a highly sought after figure in stock.
You make some excellent points, some of which I can't believe I didn't consider. I also completely forgot to mention the affordability in comparison to previous HasLabs, which is a mistake on my part. I don't doubt this will be an amazing update to the original, and the existence of it will lead to the original toy's value decreasing so fans of that mold can better get their hands on it.
@@ryebread117_ I do like your take. It is a lot more nuance than a lot of others against this Haslab. I haven't backed any projects yet, but I will declare my bias as an American who would have an easier time doing so.
I think they pretty said that he will be the only one in Haslab and I can see why they chose him as the project for the 40th. Yes it sucks for everyone who wants the other variants of prime and can’t get the figure through Haslab. I was really hoping that Cybertron Primus would’ve been the project. I see the pros and cons of its production through Haslab. If we’re lucky they’ll do another Haslab vault. And some will get another chance at him
@@ryebread117_ the originals came out when I was too young for it and I was never a big fan of the series but I was super excited to be able to finally back a project especially after meeting Neil Kaplan. I was super excited. I hope the final product is as amazing as the images we’ve gotten make it out to be
No, what sucks is that out here in Australia, going through official distribution partnership channels, the price is $750AUD, which works out at roughly $525USD. That's the same amount Unicron was out here officially.
@andrewrichards312 That's awful. I can't believe products skyrocket in other countries simply for not being the "main" ones like the US and Japan. I'm sorry y'all gotta pay literally double just to get something like this.
I think haslab should do mini crowd funds for repayments. Make it just optimus make the amount of backers needed cut in half of the original make the wait time for the deadlineway smaller. Maybe make it even a poll of what repaint they could do with renders only to show off the colors.
You know, smaller campaigns might actually be pretty awesome. I'm sure they've thought about it, but haven't found the best use for it. We'll have to wait and see I suppose!
"Omega Prime proves that nothing is off the table for Haslab." Wouldn't that include repaints of Omega Prime? Also theres no way anyone was buying RiD Ultra Magnus as a retail commander, that is a flat out lie. Even you full on said that you wouldn't get him if given the choice. RiD 2001 is the most obscure piece of TF media for western audiences, so yes the big ticket items for it are viable. Also like... why would they make G1 titans as Haslabs when we've already gotten them all at retail?
As far as we know, repaints are off the table due to HasLab's exclusivity. That may change as Optimus Prime was previously not considered. I did say I wouldn't get Magnus, but I also said that the people who wouldn't are a much smaller crowd. I only want Optimus, but if Magnus was sold separately at retail, I would have gotten him regardless to have the complete set, like many who still seek out of the original toys do. I only used G1 titans as an example, don't take the namedrops too much to heart.
I get you point about Optimus being in haslab but the only other Optimus I can think of that might be in haslab is Cybertron Optimus along with wing saber and Leo breaker. Energon could DEFINITELY be a leader and 4 transformable deluxes and we just got a power master and God bomber not to long ago so I think we're ok moving forward. Plus the next one NEEDS to be liokaiser.
Now that the funding is done and I’ve backed this figure, I’m still kind of hoping we see a rerelease of previous Haslab figures at some point. Whether it be that they’re just a recolor or something else but having this figure be limited edition makes me feel bad for any people getting back into Transformers after the backing period ended. I certainly felt that way because I got back into buying Transformers figures immediately after the funding for Star Sabed ended.
personally I don't see the issue with them going back on the "No Optimus in Haslab" rule they had. Commander is the only price point that can work for some Primes (The Unicron Trilogy and RiD especially) and with Omega Prime in particular both Prime and Magnus would need to be commanders spread over 2 years, putting them in Haslab makes the most sense. I would love if this is the only time Optimus is in Haslab so other characters (like Devasator, other combiners and the like) can get their time in the sun, but with Omega Prime it made the most sense
I agree. If there is going to be an Optimus in HasLab, I feel like this is the extent of it. That, and I can see the issue with spreading Commanders across years just to get the full effect over just bundling the whole set in one.
Exactly. Optimus would sell at retail but Magnus certainly would not. Especially if not a lot of people were to get Prime then they wouldn't buy Magnus next year.
@@FireFury190 especially with only 1 mainline commander a year. Imagine not only knowing one will bomb at retailer, you have to wait an entire year to get the other half.
Yeah, I recognize that, trust me. Even I said I wouldn't pick up Magnus- only reason I wpuod is to have the complete set. I understand bundling everything into one package is the best value and way for fans to get it, I just wish there was another way is all.
@@ryebread117_ Haslabs at this point are made to order pre-order items disguised as crowdfunding. But Hasbro isn't confident enough to just have them be made to order unless they reach a certain number. Hench why they just say it's a crowdfunding thing.
Omega Prime is a perfectly fine addition to Haslab. HasLab isn’t meant for re-tools, re-molds and such. It’s meant for serious collectors who’re looking for amazing display pieces for their collections. And since the campaign has literally met ALL it’s current goals, the results speak for themselves despite the fan backlash of people being pissy that it won’t appear in retail. IMO, if it were to go to retail, you’d have to compete with scalpers, over-stock of one character versus another, and a much BIGGER price-point than what is being offered by HasLab exclusively. And for Hasbro, that’s a no-go because they’d essentially be losing money, which is the opposite of what they’re trying to do lol. At the end of the day, it is what it is. People will be upset, but there are clearly more people who want this figure set versus those who don’t. So… Womp Womp?
interesting is no one talking about the fact that, hasbro asked money disguised as HAslab, when.... they should the prototypes already done. which means, engineering was already done, and as we see, it means they just needed to send the molds to factories. which also begs the question, that they already made it and showed it, as opposed to all other haslabs, that was needed money to do anything. i only wanted optimus prime...and now its locked on this BS.
I LOVED RID but for some reason I was never able to get my hands on either Prime or Ultra Magnus so this was a no brainer for me. The Haslab set is objectively better than the original in just terms of quality and durability alone. (Hopefully)
To me. I cannot afford something like a haslab figure. I could have gotten them seperately over the course of a year if they were retail. my only gripe if that the haslabs are a one and done. I wish maybe the could make a retail version, maybe a slightly cheaper than the haslab version interms of paint deco, doesnt come with the haslab bonus stuff and maybe sell them seperately as 3 figures. Keeping the haslab versions as a higher quality version and the retail versions an afordable version of the figure.
My biggest problem is that this character is literally being forced into being a haslab project. First things first, unlike most othe Optimus Primes, Fire Convoy is really no a big dude. in base form he's like a head taller than a Carbot (average deluxe size), so in order to be in sacale he should be roughly as tall as WFC Primal, growing like two inches for Super mode, in other words, barely a Leader. But lets be generous, Lets asume he was as tall as Siege ultramagnus in supermode, that would mean UM would have to be the same size, Two leaders. Lets be even more generous, to ensure nothing goes wrong, Optimus could be a commander class, keeping the size but ensuring he does the heavy lifting when it comes to the Omega combination. Lets be even more generous, make them both commanders, hell they are already making Magmatron from Beast Wars II (the one no one watched). Anyways, there's nothing we can do now, but damn, it really sucks to think they can keep making A list characters through an incredibly exclusive mechanism.
I think the only other tf character for the next haslab project would be RID 2001 Gigatron/ Megatron do the fact that he's a multichanger and amount of altmodes they can engineer him into.
I understand your perspective. I don't agree with your conclusion. I don't think Omega Prime being in Haslab is "bad for the future of" either Haslab or people's ability to get this character. Since Hasbro has made it evident they wish to hold on to the 80's in the fact that the transformers series is merely a vehicle to sell children toys this was the only way us collectors were going to get this character, or these characters as some might prefer. So far as I can tell Haslab appears to be the new business model for the Masterpiece line. Higher detail more niche characters targeted at the collector demographic. Sure this could have been a couple commander class figures but since the Legacy line is really more focused at selling toys to kids, because let's admit that even though these are higher detail than old figures we used to get, these are still toys. Like the original toy, had this one been sold as a toy it would have suffered budget cuts like the original did leading it to be the floppy mess that it was. Being a Haslab it can be set at a higher price point and find out if the interest is there or not. If there isn't it doesn't cost Hasbro all that much money. If you only want one of the characters then you've got time to find someone to split the price with and keep whichever one you want. In my opinion this was our best way at getting a high quality collector version of this character that we never would have gotten in the toy line. Also, as most people have already said, this isn't Optimus Prime. This is Fire Convoy, Ultra Magnus, and Omega Prime.
mI think you're right on the money. I didn't consider it, but it makes complete sense HasLab has allowed Hasbro to provide high-end versions of niche characters for diehard fans of the respective material. I don't think Omega Prime is necessarily bad for the future of HasLab. but for transparency sake, it grabs attention despite how much I hate framing it that way. I do think Omega Prime raises concerns, but the same is true for new opportunities in HasLab.
It bothers me because I really need updated versions of the characters but if they don't do it at retail I can't afford it. These are a bit bigger than they would be at retail and they have all the extra perks to make the price worth it but I don't need them to be this big, I don't need the extra stuff. I just need them to be affordable at a retail level. I've considered just selling off my collection and boycotting Hasbro after this Haslab because I can barely afford retail anymore as it is when all the price points have doubled from what they were just a few years ago and now they're locking figures behind Haslab. I don't even really have much of a choice if Hasbro keeps raising prices and doing shit like this.
Just a reminder, if you are going to boycott, you don't have to sell your products. You already own those and unless you wanna sell them for money, it's perfectly fine to hold onto them.
@@ryebread117_ Yeah I know but I could use the money. Plus it's annoying having holes in the collection that I can't actually fill because Hasbro has made them unobtainable.
They give people enough time to back these projects. If you are seriously struggling to come up with $250 in 2 months, maybe your priorities shouldn't be collecting toys.
Its funny that most G1 FANS said Arhhh GodFireConvoy/OmegaPrime will be flunked its suck why ain't like Titan g1 Metroplex XD. Clearly that other 2000s fans are very silent and wants this figure instead of more g1 I hope that Haslab will not become a trend that all of our past beloved characters will become HaslabExclusive. Its funny that we are almost at 15k who backed this figure . my guess is Gigatron aka RID MEGATRON I hope though
That's another thing- I hope HasLab doesn't become another G1-filled line. It would be awesome to see more niche characters with this level of engineering. G1 already has Masterpiece for collectors and CHUG is continuously getting better as it is.
I think the issue, from Hasbro's POV, is Magnus and not Optimus. RID Prime/Fire Convoy IS pretty popular and would almost certainly sell well at retail, especially after the slam dunk that was Armada Prime. The issue is... RID Ultra Magnus is a STUPID looking goober borrowing the Ultra Magnus themed without his commanding and iconic look. Only fans who really want Omega Prime would buy him because... he looks bad as a stand alone design. Armada Jetfire and Overload (if they ever get made) are much more popular even as stand alones, so there's less risk in making them someday. I think this Haslab was the safest way to get RID Prime out AND satisfy RID completionists without the guaranteed bomb of retail RID Magnus spoiling their success.

And some will get another chance at him
I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles with HasLab, or any exclusivity for that matter. Regardless, I'm excited to see the final product.
"Omega Prime proves that nothing is off the table for Haslab."
Wouldn't that include repaints of Omega Prime?
I really want ultra Magnus fig its my holly grail one of my favorite designs of magnus
Ill also take the prime i also love him as well
I get you point about Optimus being in haslab but the only other Optimus I can think of that might be in haslab is Cybertron Optimus along with wing saber and Leo breaker. Energon could DEFINITELY be a leader and 4 transformable deluxes and we just got a power master and God bomber not to long ago so I think we're ok moving forward. Plus the next one NEEDS to be liokaiser.
You're definitely right. Cybertron Prime was the other runner-up for people's guesses, but beyond him I don't see the need for another.
All we really need is that weaponizer.
Bluebolts supremacy
personally I don't see the issue with them going back on the "No Optimus in Haslab" rule they had.
Primus,, we went through this already: Omega Prime wont sell properly as a retail product. >_
The Optimus rule was never a rule to begin with. It was just a false assumption.
I’m with you on only wanting Optimus. I want him and his super mode but don’t care for magnus & the blue whoever’s
I think the only other tf character for the next haslab project would be RID 2001 Gigatron/ Megatron do the fact that he's a multichanger and amount of altmodes they can engineer him into.
They wwre able to pull it off with the original toy, so I'd be inclined to see what modern engineering can do for that iteration of him.
I have another idea for another haslab project legacy/studio series prime Optimus prime vs megatron 2 pack
@ryebread117_
Very cool information about Haslab
Hoping HASLAB will read it and receive this message for improvements

Yeah, I've heard pricing for other countries is ridiculous, which is really unfortunate for an exclusive of this caliber.
This will be the trend for Haslab now.
It's possible, but despite what I said in the video, I think the new opportunities are simply a double-edged sword. I think it'll be cool to see what they do next, but I do feel for those who don't/can't buy into HasLab.
