- Harvey Martin earned a certain reputation on the field as a dominating force on the Cowboys' Doomsday Defense of the 1970s. But in truth, one of the franchise's greatest sack artists was nothing like the mean persona that opposing quarterbacks feared.

He should be in the ROH and HOF.
When I was a teenager watching my Cowboys on a black and white TV in the basement rec room, Harvey Martin and Too Tall Jones were my heroes, they were my Dynamic Duo !!!.
Harvey Martin is underappreciated. He's one of the greatest pass rusher in the history of the NFL. Give them man his due!
No way this man isn't in both
Ring of Honor & a HOF'er...
Life can be so unkindly unfair at times😶
I grew up with Harvey Martin around. My step dad sold sports stuff and he was my favorite human as a kid. He def deserved to be in HOF... I think maybe it's bc of what happened outside of football. Like with M. Irvin
Well done! I haven't had too many films that brought tears to my eyes than seeing Big Harvey!
Shout out to South Oak Cliff of Dallas County.
Big Harvey is truly a Legend 79
The beautiful Harvey Martin. One of my favorite Cowboys when I was a kid. It’s a travesty he’s not in the pro football hall of fame. One of the best d linemen in the history of the game.
I was so mad that Charles Haley, who only played for Dallas for 5 seasons, was put in the ROH before Harvey and Too Tall. Jerry doesn't know SHIT about the players who made the franchise that he bought to make him a multi-billionaire. Why doesn't he at least listen to Gil Brandt or Brad Schram about some of the alarming missing members in the ROH?
The truth bro
I remember very well watching Harvey Martin squash Quarterbacks.
This dude was the best at what he did.
I'm a grown old man crying...
One of the best to ever wear the star
If Harvey were playing in today's game he would be just as good.
Extremely Well done documentary on a true Dallas Cowboys legend!! Glad I got the chance to meet him. He's in my ring of honor and hall of fame and he will no doubt make it into the real ones one day, especially the Cowboys Ring of honor, why would he not. How bout Dem Cowboys!
Great video! I always heard of this player, but never knew the story behind his name. What an Athlete!
Best pass rusher Cowboys history
This is pure Greatness .
Harvey is one of those guys who should be in Canton but has fallen through the cracks. Much like Drew Pearson
Hopefully he gets the accolades that he deserves some day.
#79 Harvey Martin was a Super Bowl MVP, Defensive Player of the Year‼️ and leader in sacks for Dallas Cowboys. Hall of Fame worthy, based on his play on the field. Trust me I saw him play and he intimated offenses. Doomsday Defense‼️‼️
Awesome....l remember him just being consistent.....HOFer ASAP Plz
My favorite football player of all time. Thank you for this video. ROH for Harvey. HOF for Harvey.
Should be in the Hall of Fame period !!
Washington DC and both #79 Harvey Martin and #72 Ed Too Tall Jones should be in the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame‼️ It was a pleasure and thrill to see them play football.
As a Cowboys fan I just discovered this series. Just brilliant!
That was ‘Beautiful’! Thank you! RIP Harvey!
He down right deserves to be in the Hall of Fame its a total tragedy and travesty he's not in , these youngsters these days doesn't understand what a great Legend he was !
R'I'P Champion Harvey Martin #79 the late great 👍. Doomsday Defense Legend
Harvey Martin has the 2nd most sacks (e.g., 114 sacks) in franchise history, he was selected to the 70's All-Decade Team, and the main reason why the 1977 squad led the league in total defense was the dominant play (e.g., 53 sacks in a 14 game schedule) of the Cowboys front four. To put the dominance of that front four (e.g., Pugh, White, Jones, and Martin) in its proper perspective, they combined for almost 400 career sacks. Incredible. Quick rebuttal to the uninformed shots that many have taken at Jerry Jones...several members of the Schramm era Cowboys (e.g., Pearson, Harris, Wright) were put in the ROH by Jones, not Schramm.
Just want to qualify myself and say hi and thanks for your post ! Im 50 from Boston and a huge Patriots fan !! But as a little boy during the 80 NFC Title game my grandfather said "Bryan - this is Americas Team - it's God's team - my team and now Bryan it's your team " And let me tell you it was !! I loved my early 80's Cowboys just as I did my Larry Bird Celtics or Ray Bourque Bruins !! I was devastated every year as a kid and wish I was born just a couple years earlier to see them play in a Super Bowl :( I still collect tons of Cowboys memoriabla from that era and still to this day if I could have any game back in any sport it would be "the catch" it still bothers me just as much as when the Patriots lost any of their super bowls. My wish we be able to go back in time and watch the Cowboys beat the Bengals in Super Bowl 16 with my grandfather Danka ! Now as time passes ( and as a kid 5 years is a long time ) my allegiance to my local team the Patriots grew while come 86 or so my love for the Cowboys began to decline and by the time Landry was fired I had nothing to give emotionally to the Cowboys. By 92 I had zero love for that version of the cowboys. It wasn't the same for me. I remember the 84 thanksgiving game between Dallas and New England really tore me up !! But like I said during early 80's the Cowboys were on TV almost every week and the Patriots were laughing stocks. So by 86 I was all Nee England. But I love the old cowboys and love your post here of #79. I have a framed poster on my wall of Harvey Martin and Randy White crushing Craig Morton :) Anyways I rambled on - thanks again
Harvey Martin my favorite Cowboys player of all time and he should've been in the NFL Hall of Fame 🏈💪
GREAT VIDEO!!! This is definitely one of my favorite Cowboys videos. And The Beautiful Harvey Martin is one of my favorite Cowboys. The fact that he, along with about 8-12 other Cowboys should be in the HOF, but won't get there due to bias against Dallas, really pisses me off. Especially after the guy was the Co-MVP of the Super Bowl, not to mention the fact that he had more single season sacks than Michael Strahan.
Exactly right , more sacks than Strahan and the NFL season was only 14 games when he did it !! 🤷🏽♂️
BEEN AN COWBOYS FAN SINCE 1975, ITs AN CRIME THAT MARTIN #79 IS NOT IN THE RING OF HONOR & HOF! THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE QUICK! WHAT AN JOKE! LETS GO MR JONES.
I used to eat at Harvey Martin's BBQ, Harvey was my idol through the 70s and I wore his number as a defensive lineman in Jr high and the beginning of high school
PS...Jerry please put Harvey in the Ring of Honor....the man is a legend...greatest sackmaster in Cowboys history, loved him!!!!
WORD ! 👍
Harvey Martin was my favorite cowboy of all time I had a picture taken with him at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia after a game the players would load on the bus and you could see every player up close unfortunately somehow I lost the photo
What a bad ass !!!
Yet another in a growing list of Cowboys ignored by the hof. Shockingly they FINALLY got it right with Drew Pearson.
He and Ed " Too Tall" Jones should be in the HOF
Are you listening Jerry Jones? Get Harvey Martin and Ed"Too Tall" Jones in the R.O.H. immediately.
Martinized!!!
Too tall jones and Harvey martin should have been in the roh and hall of fame along time ago!
Incredible that a player who helped define the 70’s Cowboys is not in their Ring Of Honor...
NFL 1970’s ALL Decade Team as well ! 👍
I would think he will be inducted into the Ring of Honor this year since I believe it is the Cowboys who create these Legends videos, so would make sense they would right their wrong and put him in the ring.
Jerry wake the hell up and put seven-nine in the dam ring of honor alredy man!!!!!!
Should be in the HOF
How Long going to take for Harvey Martin go Ring of Honor
It’s a damn shame that he’s been forgotten by the Cowboy organization cause he’s definitely one of the best D lineman in Cowboy history !!
Why Harvey ISN'T in the HOF is probably the same reason Darren Woodson isn't.... they're Dallas Cowboys....that's the reason
Should have been in ROH 30 years ago.
Need to be in the Hall of Fame and the ring of Honor shame on Jerry Jones and the nfl. ( Don't forget about Ed too Tall Jones
Is a damn shame that Harvey Martin wasn't in the pro football Hall of Fame and it still pisses me off that great who is the all-time leader sacks but not to be in a Hall of Fame disgrace
Why he not in the hall of fame ?😢
It’s a travesty that Harvey’s not already in the Ring of Honor.
WHY THE HELL HARVEY IS NOT IN THE HALL OF FAME AND IN THE RING OF HONOR… SIMPLY RIDICULOUS.
WHY ISN"T HARVEY IN HOF AND RING OF HONOR? THEY JUST PUT JOE KLECKO IN OFF OF 1 YEAR, HARVEY DID IT EVERY YEAR, PUT MY GUY IN THE HALL.......
23 sacks in 1977 sheesh in my opinion the most underrated cowboys player ever
how the FFFFF K. is he not in the hall of fame..and guys like dan deirdorf is..lol
someone needs to have jerry joneswatch this..jesus christ..wtf. 🤬 RING OF HONOR NOW!!! JIMMY JOHNSON HARVEY MARTIN.
