William , could it be that you drove the car enough to reach "readiness" for emissions test , and passed , but the issues remained and just temporarily cleared long enough to pass? I think Scotty alluded to that as a way to pass in his video , though not directly . My mechanic said the same .
@@blackboxmycar Alright. Thanks again! I saw this on Ebay; "THINKCAR OBD20 Car Fault Code Reader Engine Diagnostic Scanner Code Reader OBD2" (which is only about $20). @@TheHeartCharmer Hi Zero Point, from our understanding, you cannot update the OBD20, whereas you can with the OBD100. Other than that, their features are more or less the same and it's just that in the future, you'll be able to keep the OBD100 up-to-date with any updates.
Hi Shaun, the ThinkOBD 100 does not scan/clear for SRS/ABS. But if you're looking for that feature, we'd recommend the next step up, called the ThinkCar 1S. It's now available on our website here: www.blackboxmycar.com/products/thinkcar-1s-bluetooth-obd-ii-scanner
Hi Jare, they're for software updates whenever there are any. You won't really need it that often as ThinkCar has not had any updates for the ThinkOBD100 (so far).
Well after receiving the item. I would say it's not horrible for the price but the cheap one I had does more. I'd suggest using an Innova 3020RS. It can tell you your check engine light, link to your smartphone, provide estimated costs, estimated repairs, recalls, maintenance tips. It's much better for a guy like me.
I am looking to diagnose the Transmission issues, will this device able to read Transmission codes , if not any recommondations ? my car jerking on low speed , specially when fully stopped and moving. (2009 toyota corolla)
Hey Siva, you will not be able to read Transmission codes with the ThinkOBD 100. Since it's Toyota specific, we recommend the ThinkDIAG as you need to look into the manufacturer-specific functions. Hope this helps!
Most vehicles from 1996 onwards should be compatible. If you are having trouble you will need to reach out to ThinkCar. If you purchased from us, you can email our support team at info[@]blackboxmycar.com and they would be more than happy to help you
Several people have asked for a manual,, and you give them all the same answer, referring them to a simple one-page blurb entitled Quick Start Guide. THIS IS NOT A MANUAL. .We need a body of information telling us what all these terms mean and what their associated numerical values mean. It mystifies me that you do not seem to understand these requests. You have provided no information to accompany this apparently wonderful device. If this is a tool for trained auto technicians only and not for laymen, you should say so in your promotional material. Otherwise you are taking people's money for a device they cannot use.
You can just google what the terms mean.. For example i didnt know what any of the live stream terms meant but immediately figured out what they were by googling the term/abbreviation because they use standard obd2 terms. I suggest just googling it. Honestly, everyone needs to learn that; doing things on your own with a scanner wont do you any good if you cant do research like that
@@philipstauffer9092 People are lazy anymore! They want instant gratification. I have saved thousands by using a scanner and doing research on how to do the work at a price under that that shops would charge. A lot of it has been simple tools and changing out parts.
What kind of freakin' answers are these? There's no manual , even an online one . That's nuts . "google it" or " People are lazy anymore! They want instant gratification"? . Yeah , I'm lazy and want instant gratification , where's the freakin' manual for this thing?
@@waldipup9010 i didnt mean to be insulting or anything like that. Its just that these are standard abbreviations that are surprisingly easy to look up. Honestly, easier than looking through a manual. And learning how to use a search engine (ie google) for things is a good skill to build. But if someone doesnt want to, up to them i guess
Yea, where's a decent manual for understanding all of the values and features? We buy these because we're DIY people. I don't understand the majority of the features, but I'm trying to find them on the net. If you're going to market to the DIY crowd, sell us something useful. I have no doubts it's a killer little tool, IF, you're a mechanic who understands the features.
I tried it with my Australian-built 1999 Camry. The car's computer doesn't support most of the data types, which is what I was expecting. For the few supported data types, it did tell me that there are no faults. A more expensive gadget obviously won't get any more data, so this gadget is an adequate entry level tool. It's cheap enough.

@@blackboxmycar Hi. Thank you very much for your response. No I did not buy it from BlackboxMyCar. I'll check if my car is compatible with the ThinkOBD 100.
I bought this scaner and wen i opend the product the obd plug isnt red and it did not come with the usb wire?
Hi Juaquin, did you purchase from us at BlackboxMyCar? If so, please contact our support team at info[at]blackboxmycar.com. That's very strange!
DOESNT WORK On Honda 2.4 2007 CRV -RE :(.... after seeing the scotty video
how do i turn off check engine?
Can you turn the check engine light off?
Hi there, you can with the ThinkDiag. You won't be able to with the ThinkOBD 100.
I saw other review for the thinkobd100 and the engine light was able to turn off
QUISIERA PODER VER LOS VIDEOS EN ESPAÑOL SI AL GUIEN LOS PUEDE PONER GRACIAS DE ANTEMANO
Hi Alfonso, unfortunately, we do not provide support in Español at this time.
Sería de gran ayuda pues no se entiende mucho
Does obd 100 require charging right out of the box
Nope, this does not! Power is received from the vehicle directly.
What are the tests? My car failed test#5
Halo can obd100 read parking sensor problems.Thank you
Hi Amkoo, as the device contains a fault code library database, it should be able to.
I have one of these scanners but am disappointed in that after getting all the emission readiness showing OK and passed smog I got a fast idle pending...no big deal. I went in an cleared the code. Then went to check my emission readiness and found that all but three readiness indicators had gone back to INC. Why would a scanner tool do that? Glad I did not do any clearing of P codes before getting it smogged. The drive cycle is a pain in the but and now have to be done again if needed to pass smog. Why is this happening? I happened on two cars. Ford Expedition and Chevy Express
Hi William, sorry to hear that you're having issues with your ThinkOBD 100. This may be a system error - the best way to get some help would be directly through the ThinkCar team. We'd recommend emailing them here: support[at]thinkcarus.com.
@@blackboxmycar Just sent them the same message. Curious what response I get. Am willing to buy a better scanner but only if it does not clear I/M readiness when clearing a fault code
Hi William, absolutely. We do offer a number of other models within the ThinkCar lineup, so do reach out when you're interested in moving forward.
William , could it be that you drove the car enough to reach "readiness" for emissions test , and passed , but the issues remained and just temporarily cleared long enough to pass? I think Scotty alluded to that as a way to pass in his video , though not directly .
My mechanic said the same .
Hi, what if my car won't start? I need to diagnose why it won't start. Will this still work? Thanks
Hi Zero Point, it definitely should for basic features, but we'd recommend the ThinkDiag if you want more OEM-specific diagnosis.
@@blackboxmycar Alright. Thanks again!
I saw this on Ebay; "THINKCAR OBD20 Car Fault Code Reader Engine Diagnostic Scanner Code Reader OBD2" (which is only about $20). Can you tell me is is any different to the "Thinkcar ThinkOBD100 "(which is about $10 more)? Appreciate your wisdom and knowledge :)
@@TheHeartCharmer Hi Zero Point, from our understanding, you cannot update the OBD20, whereas you can with the OBD100. Other than that, their features are more or less the same and it's just that in the future, you'll be able to keep the OBD100 up-to-date with any updates.
@@blackboxmycar That is very helpful. Thanks for explaining. I understand now. Cheers
Hello, it will work for my peugeot 307?
Yes, it is compatible with all cars from 1996 onwards!
Will this tell me what my keypad code is to unlock car?
Thanks
Unfortunately not ^ that will not be possible.
@@blackboxmycar ok. Thanks. I’m getting one anyway
I bought and try to use it on my 2008 Ford F-150 but it always reads “communication Error” when doing diagnostic. Can someone help me
Hi Jonathan, we recommend reaching out to support@thinkcarus.com as their support team will be able to help you.
Turn the key on.
How do I find out what all those lists of items mean and what is acceptable amount shown? I need an OBDII manual for idiots!
Hi John, Try Thinkcars website, as they might have something on there. If not they have a support line which I am sure you could use to get answers!
não aceita todos os protocolos 😔
Does it scan/clear for srs and abs?
Hi Shaun, the ThinkOBD 100 does not scan/clear for SRS/ABS. But if you're looking for that feature, we'd recommend the next step up, called the ThinkCar 1S. It's now available on our website here: www.blackboxmycar.com/products/thinkcar-1s-bluetooth-obd-ii-scanner
what is the USB cord for?
It's used for firmware updates
can anybody tell me what is the USB for? at the bottom of the ThinkOBD100 theres a plug USB..what is that for?
Hi Jare, they're for software updates whenever there are any. You won't really need it that often as ThinkCar has not had any updates for the ThinkOBD100 (so far).
USB charge cord
i WAS WRONG IT'S TO PLUG INTO YOUR COMPUTER AND UP GRADE YOUR CODE LIBRARY.
Can it diagnose a a/c heater?
Sure can!
@@blackboxmycar awesome thanks
I bought one based on Scotty Kilmer's recommendation. It died on its second use!
Hi Robert, that's not good. Did you purchase from us? If so, please reach out to our team at info[at]blackboxmycar.com.
@@blackboxmycar Thank you for your concern. I purchased the scanner from Amazon directly.
mine doesnt work on my peguot 207?
Most vehicles from 1996 onwards should be compatible. If you are having trouble you will need to reach out to ThinkCar. If you purchased from us, you can email our support team at info[@]blackboxmycar.com and they would be more than happy to help you
The video was all marketing, you should have given us a code and diagnosed it
Several people have asked for a manual,, and you give them all the same answer, referring them to a simple one-page blurb entitled Quick Start Guide.
I completely agree.
Nice nails.
Bmw ?
It will work for BMW.
Just trade it in.
get the scan going, make sure the car has a chk engine light. 2 much blahs. forget the high school definition.
sorry.
Those nails are cringy trying to watch her use it

Does this item alow you to reset oil changes on euro cars like Porsche.
@@1walterhenrique Hi Walter, please reach out to us at info[at]blackboxmycar.com with your order # and we'll follow-up with you.
Traction control light permanently on. Scanner states “This vehicle has no fault codes”. Any ideas?
Yes....would love to interpret many more of the readouts and what they mean by virtue of a comprehensive users manual. Is such a thing available?
Will this work on my 09 Subaru forester??
Yep, it should work for any vehicle after 1996.
@@blackboxmycar so is this sold by you guys?? If I have issues can it be returned? All I need it for is to clear a check engine off the dash
Will this scan a 2016 LML 2500HD duramax?
Yep it should work. For a full list of coverage you can find here:
www.mythinkcar.com/coverage/checklist 😊
Would this work on my 2000 Celica Gts?
We haven't specifically tested it on a Celica, but it should work as far as we know. We have had a good track record with Toyota vehicles.
