    like others have said, it’s a great product, but without a manual, us non professional mechanics have no idea what the readings mean and are just jumbled up numbers with o idea if they represent a good running engine or one that needs looking at

    I bought this scanner because of Scotty’s recommendation. But here’s the thing: my “check engine” light came on, so I plugged it in, got it going, selected “read codes”, and it told me there were no fault codes. I was looking at at my lit up CEL.
    Okay, turned off my car, unplugged the scanner, plugged back in, turned the key, scanner started doing its thing, “read codes”, and again, told me there are no faults code. My CEL is on.
    This is the second time this has happened. The first time, it was the end of January, I got frustrated and went to Advanced Auto and used their code scanner, which gave me a code. My shop took care of it.
    I’ve contacted the company and so far, they are of no help. (Telling me if my light was on, got cleared, and came back on, I should go to the shop. Uhhh... gee, thanks. But could the scanner, ya know, tell me the codes?)
    Any ideas what could be going?

    Like nunov said he's right you mention everyone should have one in their car what good is it if there's no manual to it I understand it mainly for a certified mechanic then say so don't mislead us to buy one

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  3 года назад

      Hi Jose, we're certainly not trying to mislead anyone here in buying one, but that said, the ThinkOBD 100 is straightforward enough to use without the manual. While we don't have the full manual available, you can simply Google the fault codes that the ThinkOBD 100 discovers when you plug the device in to your vehicle. A number of our customers have found a use through that method.

      William , could it be that you drove the car enough to reach "readiness" for emissions test , and passed , but the issues remained and just temporarily cleared long enough to pass? I think Scotty alluded to that as a way to pass in his video , though not directly .
      My mechanic said the same .

    Several people have asked for a manual,, and you give them all the same answer, referring them to a simple one-page blurb entitled Quick Start Guide. THIS IS NOT A MANUAL. .We need a body of information telling us what all these terms mean and what their associated numerical values mean. It mystifies me that you do not seem to understand these requests. You have provided no information to accompany this apparently wonderful device. If this is a tool for trained auto technicians only and not for laymen, you should say so in your promotional material. Otherwise you are taking people's money for a device they cannot use.

      You can just google what the terms mean.. For example i didnt know what any of the live stream terms meant but immediately figured out what they were by googling the term/abbreviation because they use standard obd2 terms. I suggest just googling it. Honestly, everyone needs to learn that; doing things on your own with a scanner wont do you any good if you cant do research like that

      I tried it with my Australian-built 1999 Camry. The car's computer doesn't support most of the data types, which is what I was expecting. For the few supported data types, it did tell me that there are no faults. A more expensive gadget obviously won't get any more data, so this gadget is an adequate entry level tool. It's cheap enough.
