I think the "hollywood nights" special as meant as a promo for Xanadu. In this bit most of the dancers are also in the grand finale of Xanadu. Including ONJ beau at the time and future husband. Did you recognize Matt, Empress?
2 years later an unsigned Tina Turner would cover this song as well other rock songs as she reinvented away from the Ike years of rhythm and blues as well as the Vegas disco queen she had become. It’s high octane and is the birth of Tinas solo rock career. She would meet her new manager Roger Davies through her friend Olivia Newton John. I vividly remember this special on television! It was on the same evening as the Oscar’s that evening! This special occurred in her career right after “Totally Hot” album was released and just before “Xanadu!” This performance is on fire! She is ricking that body suit and although she is not the greatest dancer, she holds her own, in this performance! The track is a spirit cover of the classic Bob Seger tune! Unfortunately her version has never made it onto an Olivia album:(. This track was the sizzling opener to the television special of the same name, which remains my absolute favorite tv special from her! Empress, I hope you get to view and review the entire special in its entirety! Its is so musically varied and entertaining and has the most incredible grouping of guest stars! There was no hotter female music star than her at this time! Its fun to see her ex husband Matt Lattanzi in the clip (She is sitting on his back and slides off him toward the end!). There is a whole hour special with her singing with gene Kelly and cliff richard and Tina turner, Karen carpenter and Toni tenille. Wonderful. Love you.
