Paul Dano, who plays here as Dwayne, was fabulous as The Beach Boys Dennis Wilson in “Love & Mercy”. He’s a wonderful, critically acclaimed, industry award nominated actor.
Toni Collette was the actress who played Cole's mother in The Sixth Sense. Her hair is lighter and she's not wearing any makeup plus appears a little thinner here. Ps. They now make glasses for color blind people that allow them to see color.
I had a brother whose dream was to join the Coast Guard...but in his late teens he learned that being legally blind in one eye (he suffered lazy eye as a child) meant he was not an acceptable candidate. On the water, you need two functioning eyes; you can get injured in one eye at any time, so having only one good eye put the ship and crew in jeopardy. And that was before considering he also had red/green colorblindness and dyslexia. So I totally understand Dwayne's dilemma. So many amazing actors in this film. You mentioned some, but there was also Toni Collette (she was in "The Sixth Sense") and Greg Kinnear (who was in the Harrison Ford remake of "Sabrina" and costarred with Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets"), and little Abigail Breslin (who was in "Signs" and "Ender's Game"). Loving hearing you laugh so much!
I also grew up in Iowa (I'm 52) and i developed an interest in fashion when I was about 8 years old. Obsessed with what I wore and also very interested in what others wore and why. (I'd suggest mix and match ideas to my teachers based on what I saw them wearing..."try your green blouse with this for something different") My parents were not worldly people, they really only understood farm life as you described it. Lots of jokes about what planet I'd come from, but in the end my parents were extremely supportive of me and actually proud that I'd found something I truly enjoyed and could make my life's work.
22:52 Is one of my favorite scenes in this movie... Who has never had a "fuuuuuuuuuuuck" moment in life? I love this movie specially because everyone's performance is so subtle yet so heartfelt, and also the fact that a broken family finds its bonding moment in the most akward situations, very realistic IMO. James once again your reactions are pure gold, everytime you laugh a bit of sadness leaves my body! I would really apreciate if you gently reacted to some WW2 movies such as Fury, Life is Beautiful or the Pianist!
If you wanna see Toni Collette (the mom) give a fantastic performance, watch Hereditary. It will fit right into the schedule as Halloween season is coming soon. 😊
I am not a fan of horror movies but the acting and writing in that movie was so incredible that I consider the film one of my favorites. Not watching it again though…
@@JRSiebz She looks quite a bit different from that movie, and using a different accent. She's such a good actress, it doesn't surprise me when someone who is not familiar with her work doesn't immediately recognize her. 😉

The only way I even remembered Bruce Willis, was mainly because of the poster for the film otherwise I might not have even remembered that much. I don't know how old he is but I'm in my 30's, and it came out when I was 8. I didn't even realize Vincent Grey was Donnie Wahlberg (Mark Wahlberg's brother) until a couple of years ago.
I agree with your assessment of children in these types of pageants. It's wrong. However, I absolutely love this movie. Every actor played their part to perfection. Wonderful reaction!

I know it's a shame that I haven't watched Breaking Bad yet. It's on my to-watch list but I've always been a film nerd 1st and foremost and shows take a back seat to that. Thats so nice, why can't everybody be a little bit more like you? Earth would be a peaceful place... 💛 Thanks for this reaction, had fun again 🙂
Actually if everyone believed in heaven, and acted on that belief, the world _would_ be peaceful. It's when you don't believe in heaven, and life for you becomes a pointless existence to fill with as much pleasure, joy, thrills, etc until time runs out, that you start to get into the dark territory. Luckily you don't have to be that, Jesus' death and resurrection is a historical fact, and if you can't trust the guy that did that when he says there's a heaven, who can you trust with anything?
@@DiggitySlice Actually, that's not true for all of us, my friend.I don't believe in heaven as an actual place and my life isn't a pointless existence. When I leave this life I'll go on to other adventures, just like I did before this life. I hope you have a lovely time in heaven, though. 💜

There are parents out there that are desperate to live vicariously through there kids, whether as a beauty pageant winner or movie star or doctor. Some are less toxic than others, but the parents of the other girls in this should be arrested for child abuse.
I LOVE this movie. It hits all of the emotions. Another excellent Steve Carrell dramedy is Dan in Real Life (I may actually like it more than this, to be honest). Also, the mother in this, Toni Collette, played the mother in The Sixth Sense as well, which is another you've reacted to.
I also felt the creepiness of making up those little girls to look like sexy adults. I think it's to show the irony that the people running the pageant think that's okay but were offended by Olive's strip-tease act.
Such a great reaction to a wonderful film. I was thinking it would be funny if you had used the horn as the censor bleep, lol. When Diegesis reacted to this, Arianna and Maple said it "sounded like a sad fart." 🤣
Maybe didnt recognise because she used a diffret accent andnher hair was different but Shryl(The Mom) is played by Toni Collete who played the mom in The 6th Sense.

I didn't find out until I applied for a job, past all the selection tests, got tested before signing the contract and they said they couldn't accept me bc I was partially colorblind.. To this day, sometimes I'm still thinking about that, wondering what if I'm not colorblind and got that job, bc it was a good career opportunity in a big company.. oh well.. 😅
Yes! Crazy, Stupid Love is great!!! It should be reacted to...another fluffy title with serious subject matter and stacked cast--Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Julianne Moore and more...really great movie!
ESSAY TIME!! I watch reactions simply for the sheer variety of humanity. I live in the 'burbs so I think the lifestyles here can afford a bigger slice of attention to outward appearances. Just like Jack said, Rose looks like an indoor kinda girl. The first beauty pageant I saw that I remember was hardly much memory-wise. I was impressed by one lady during an interview section. All the contestants sat pretty with legs crossed at the ankles in a row. The one lady that impressed me the most was answering ALL questions, sitting back and legs crossed at the knees. Some of the other ladies were lucky IF they could an answer in. I like the talent portions as well. I haven't made any effort to keep up though. Beauty pageants are shallow enough for me to forget them. I'm aghast at child pageants too. They should be playing tag or something. Mom was married before and Dwayne is the child from THAT marriage. Grandpa is only Olive's grandpa.
Love this film. If you’re interested in great classics, I have many I could recommend. The Little Foxes with Bette Davis is highly regarded film from 1941.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I originally watched this movie. I bought it on DVD back in the stone age when Netflix was still doing dvds in the mail. Absolutely loved it then and love it even more now. Your laugh had me on the floor laughing. I'm requesting.. *Three Men and a Baby* please please please
I have always dyed my hair because I love how it makes me feel. Its like it wakes up parts of my personality. I do it for the same reason I got tattooed and pierced my nose - not because I care what anyone thinks, but because they make me feel more like myself. I don't know how to better explain it. (BTW: blondes don't have more fun- redheads do.)
I'm so glad you have that much fun with your hair. My comments were more about people thinking society is making them do things vs things that make you happy.
James…I grew up in Cleveland and we didn’t have cable til the 90’s I think. I moved away by then. We however had a movie house a couple blocks away. My mom also loved movies and going to the drive in. We would pile a bunch of family kids in and go. But we went to the library regularly and would walk out with as much as we could carry. The rest of the time we played board games or just played outside. So despite the time and longitude (similar latitudes 😉) we grew up similarly! 😁
Just discovered your channel. Especially appreciate your last comment. Honesty is beautiful and you’re very considerate. Please continue NOT censoring yourself.
The tail end of the video is why I could never be offended by any opinion of yours ( in which I agree in this case with the pageants because I find them very VERY creepy ) since you reiterate that it's not coming from some malicious place and it's just your opinion and shouldn't be a big deal to someone who doesn't know you personally.
Got a kick out of watching you and your reaction even more than the movie itself!! (Have seen the movie before and I do love it but enjoyed watching you more this time)
That's no fun. Consider scheduling a game night. Just a reason to get the family off phones and having a good time together. There's a lot of fantastic modern board games vs things like Monopoly.
Color blind doesn't mean you don't see colors (for most), you can see a whole rainbow of colors, but the brain just interprets some colors a little off.
No, you're absolutely right. It's creepy. Kids should be kids. Putting little girls through that is highly inappropriate, and is a signal for sickos. I would say it's inappropriate for teenage girls, let alone children.
Just wanted to say I really appreciated your comment about religion halfway through the video. If you believe, great. If you don't, also great. Just be a good person.
Great film. Great reaction. IMO, no normal person thinks these pre-teen beauty pageants are anything but creepy. I think they are abusive and exploitative... not that I've given the topic much thought. LOL! I didn't learn I was color blind until I joined the Army.
@AwesomeUSMovies Not at first, I could tell the difference between red and green. A few years later I applied for Warrant Officer Flight School. I was hoping to fly helicopters. My application was denied after they reviewed my medical records. I wasn't surprised.
I don't want to make women feel they should dye there hair or anything like that. Just do what makes YOU happy not what you think society wants you to do.
33:22 It's actually not uncommon to find out that you're colorblind in your teens. I was 17 when I found out in Driver's Ed. You tend to assume that the way you precieve the world is the way everyone preceives it, and never bother questioning little things that don't seem to matter. Why'd my brother call that toybox green? Must've been a weird lighting thing. Why can't I tell the red team from the green team in my game? I've got bad eyesight, of course I can't tell them apart. It's only obvious in retrospect
My mom would buy board games from time to time and we would play them together. It was nice. Everybody is stuck watching a screen these days and it has changed society.
Saw this pop up in my feed and I know this is gonna be a fun ride with James! Especially when we get to Grandpa 😂 see y'all on the other side 😇 thanks James!

Toni Collette was the actress who played Cole's mother in The Sixth Sense. Her hair is lighter and she's not wearing any makeup plus appears a little thinner here. Ps. They now make glasses for color blind people that allow them to see color.
I love this movie! So happy to see you catch some of the best lines and recognizing the child pageant kids are gonna have trauma
I love dark comedies, this is one of my favorites. Alan Arkin is hilarious in this!
I thought it was "Cant touch this" too, the beginnings are so similar between that and "super freak"
I think my favorite line is the panicked, "Everybody, pretend to be normal!"
(I'd suggest mix and match ideas to my teachers based on what I saw them wearing..."try your green blouse with this for something different")
My parents were not worldly people, they really only understood farm life as you described it.
Thank you so much for watching. I'll make sure these are on my list. BTW, here is a link to the list: letterboxd.com/AwesomeUS/
25:43 “Did you choose this?”
I love how they hint about whats to come! Grandpa had great taste 😂🤣
Surprised he didn't recognize her from the sixth sense
@@JRSiebz She looks quite a bit different from that movie, and using a different accent. She's such a good actress, it doesn't surprise me when someone who is not familiar with her work doesn't immediately recognize her. 😉
@@JRSiebz I didn't recognize her from The Sixth Sense. I was a child when I saw it, so I basically just remembered Haley Joel Osment from it.
@@vly9257 So many movies--In Her Shoes, About A Boy, Muriel's Wed
ding, Knives Out and so much more. Great in EVERYTHING
I agree with your assessment of children in these types of pageants. It's wrong. However, I absolutely love this movie. Every actor played their part to perfection. Wonderful reaction!
He's the pre-eminent Proust scholar. Proust was a classical author -- a fact I only know because his name and career werementioned in a Monty Python skit.
I like your attitude on belief in the afterlife. To each his own.
I adore this movie and I love your reaction! You have a great laugh!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I learned to drive on a VW bus and I can verify all these quirks, including the horn getting stuck. 🤣 I loved that thing!
OMG, love that
@@AwesomeUSMovies Remember my sister and I driving in her Yellow VW bus -- upstate NY, winter, freezing and NO HEAT, no back seats. Great memories running to all the antique stores in all the quaint towns...we just bundled up!
25:05 "Well, frozen yogurt" No. Miss California there said she loves ICE CREAM
I knew you'd love the horn. I have tears in my eyes watching you react to it. It's so anemic.
It's a great gag
As a fellow reader I recommend you to definitely investigate the work of Marcel Proust.
His "Remembrance of Things Past" is widely regarded as one of the most influential novels of the 20th century.
You may find it not to your taste, but it's interesting to learn how he wrote and how he inspired the work of so many others.
One of my all-time favorite movies. Both funny and touching at the same time.
Agreed
i LOVE this movie!!!! definitely in my top three favorites :) i know you'll appreciate it!
It's so good!
I started eschewing lots of makeup and hair styling in high school. I would say I care what's in my head, not on it.
Wow LOVE that
One of my favorite movies! Hilarious how Bryan Cranston and Dean Norris were both in this movie and then Breaking Bad just two years later; one of my favorite things about watching RUclips reactions to this movie is seeing if they’re also BB fans 😂 it’s always awesome!
I know it's a shame that I haven't watched Breaking Bad yet. It's on my to-watch list but I've always been a film nerd 1st and foremost and shows take a back seat to that. I 1st saw him in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Malcolm in the Middle, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch! I didn't ever realize Malcolm in the Middle ended the same year this film came out!
"If you believe that there is a heaven, then there is a heaven. And If you dont believe that there is a heaven, we are just a body and when we die, our existence ends , then believe that."
Thats so nice, why can't everybody be a little bit more like you? Earth would be a peaceful place... 💛
Thanks for this reaction, had fun again 🙂
@@angelagraves865 Well said friend 😊 💛
James, the mom Sheryl was Toni Collette, who was the mom in "The Sixth Sense." And Olive was the younger sister in "Zombieland."
what??? Man.. I suck at recognizing people. :-(
@@AwesomeUSMovies You're still recognizing a few people, though.
Don't worry@@AwesomeUSMovies That means she did her job with great aplomb. I've seen Paul Dano (Dwayne) in several movies. He looks about the same for all of them and I still don't recognize him.
@@celiashen5490 I love Paul Dano. He was great, as always, in There Will Be Blood and Prisoners, and apparently I'm the only one who saw him in Cowboys vs Aliens (2011), which I liked a lot. Lol
@@angelagraves865 I loved Cowboys vs. Aliens too! It was so fun!
R.I.P Alan Arkin
(1934-2023)
Steve Carrell and 'Olive' running fills my heart with immense joy! And, another movie with 'Olive' is Signs, starring Mel Gibson and Juaquin Phoenix. It's great - please add it to your Must See list!
What an awesome centered funny movie. Do you have a great heart and your focus was on being kind of a little girl in this book! Do you have a good heart and if that influences some people believe in them selves… Good for youLoved your positive reaction special!
There are parents out there that are desperate to live vicariously through there kids, whether as a beauty pageant winner or movie star or doctor. Some are less toxic than others, but the parents of the other girls in this should be arrested for child abuse.
I couldn't believe the airbrushing
I LOVE this movie. It hits all of the emotions. Another excellent Steve Carrell dramedy is Dan in Real Life (I may actually like it more than this, to be honest). Also, the mother in this, Toni Collette, played the mother in The Sixth Sense as well, which is another you've reacted to.
I also felt the creepiness of making up those little girls to look like sexy adults. I think it's to show the irony that the people running the pageant think that's okay but were offended by Olive's strip-tease act.
Someone wanting to join the Air Force Academy wouldn't have an F/A-18 on their wall. That's a Navy aircraft.
Oh nice, good point
Such a great reaction to a wonderful film.
I was thinking it would be funny if you had used the horn as the censor bleep, lol.
When Diegesis reacted to this, Arianna and Maple said it "sounded like a sad fart." 🤣
I remember in junior high doing the color blind test, two boys failed it and they didnt have a clue there was a problem.
I live right by those over passes. It’s the 60/202 change. Drive under it all the time hahaha
Best movie dance scene of all time!!!!
Maybe didnt recognise because she used a diffret accent andnher hair was different but Shryl(The Mom) is played by Toni Collete who played the mom in The 6th Sense.
totally didn't recognize her
That honking was hilarious. Like the rest of the movie. So much good sarcasm :D
such a great little gag
This is such an amazing movie, can't wait to see your reaction to it! Hope you and your family are doing well and that mom is doing as great as can be!
It's so good!
Always loved this movie. And LOVED your reaction.... laughing again along with you. Thanks.
Glad I can make you laugh
Already did it, go check it out: ruclips.net/video/swQ4k9WKhoE/видео.html
Cute movie!!!
Didn't you recognize the actress? She's the actress from hereditary, she's amazing.
Never seen it sorry
Thanks for that. valid points
hey James.. Love to your mom..Hope you enjoyed the show..
Love this film. If you’re interested in great classics, I have many I could recommend.
The Little Foxes with Bette Davis is highly regarded film from 1941.
Loooooved your reaction!!!! This is one of my fave movies of all time 💜
It's so good!
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Oh yes, you'll love that one 😊
The pagent disturbed everyone. It was supposed to. That was the point.
OK good so it's not just me
I have always dyed my hair because I love how it makes me feel.
I just wanted to add that you got me to tears when you spoke of loving yourself the way you are. It’s so true and you said it so eloquently. ❤
Just discovered your channel. Especially appreciate your last comment. Honesty is beautiful and you’re very considerate. Please continue NOT censoring yourself.
Thank you so much!
You are so sweet I love your reaction to this movie it's one of my favorites❤
Thank you so much!!
❤❤❤---That was fantastic! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My husband discovered he was color blind while we were dating. He was in his forties.
DANG! That sucks
(Have seen the movie before and I do love it but enjoyed watching you more this time)
Glad you enjoyed
Toni Collette the lead actress you saw her in The Sixth Sense she was Coles mother!

That was Mayor McCheese not Hamburgler...

Let kids be kids screw these pageants!
The parents should be ashamed of themselves
Also, Steve Carell is a genius
Must be pretty nice playing board games a lot growing up, I have so many board games my family just doesn’t want to play them with me
That's no fun. Consider scheduling a game night. Just a reason to get the family off phones and having a good time together. There's a lot of fantastic modern board games vs things like Monopoly.
The cop that pulls em over and goes through the dirty magazines..is Hank from Breaking Bad
Yeah I said that
The mother from The Sixth Sense?
32:21 It's a VW Bus. A VW Beetle (Bug) is different
I know, i know.. I just call them all bugs
I love your reviews!
I'm so glad!
Color blind doesn't mean you don't see colors (for most), you can see a whole rainbow of colors, but the brain just interprets some colors a little off.
👍
This film is a bit of a litmus test. I'm so glad you passed!
It's great
No, you're absolutely right.
I just really try to stay positive
Great film. Great reaction.
IMO, no normal person thinks these pre-teen beauty pageants are anything but creepy. I think they are abusive and exploitative... not that I've given the topic much thought. LOL!
I didn't learn I was color blind until I joined the Army.
That's so crazy to me. Was there any repercussions in the Army?
@AwesomeUSMovies Not at first, I could tell the difference between red and green.
A few years later I applied for Warrant Officer Flight School. I was hoping to fly helicopters. My application was denied after they reviewed my medical records. I wasn't surprised.
I don’t know what you said that you think would be offensive? It’s certainly not about those horrific child pageants.
I don't want to make women feel they should dye there hair or anything like that. Just do what makes YOU happy not what you think society wants you to do.
Sugarman... Lindhagen...
Can u watch JOE DIRT? Think youll get a kick out of that!
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
No need to apologize for a having and sharing an opinion.
Thanks
Dying your hair is fun.
Can be, it's all about what makes YOU happy not doing what you feel is "necessary" from outside influences.
@@AwesomeUSMovies that's fair. Could have worded it better. No worries.
I’m with ya on the pageant thing. Don’t like ‘em.
