    Thank you for all the recs for sturdier tripods and cable releases! The RB67 is my main studio camera these days, and it’s light enough for my tripod - and I use a cable release for it every single time. Not sure why I didn’t apply that to the Fuji as well. Definitely shoulda used the mirror lock up it has to reduce the vibration from the slap of the mirror but I didn’t think to in the moment!
    Also: I used the phrase "tilt shift" a lot in this video when the reality of the situation is I was mainly swinging. Tilt shift is horizontal, but I was mainly doing swinging, which is vertical. I talk a lot and sometimes I don't say the right thing when I mean another, sorry for the confusion and tysm for watching!

    GX80 was not designed as a ' Medium Format ' camera as we know them, but as a mini and portable studio camera using the very high quality 120 transparency film of the time for studio and product photography, hence the tilt and rise movements to alter the plane of focus and also correct for converging verticals when shooting architecture. As it happened it was a flop, since it was almost as heavy and cumbersome and expensive as a dedicated 4X5, with limited movements and much smaller film format. The F45 setting is quite usuable, if not optimal due to the large negative and is really used to increase the depth of field. When you use F5.6 with a 6X8 camera , you are operating at an aperure of F1.8 in terms of 35mm and you really have to be operating at F16 or F22 in the studio as a minimum, so I am not surprised you had depth of focus problems. Some cool shots though, so somehow it all worked.

    You might also have better luck with the camera shake using a heavier duty tripod. That Peak travel tripod is great but I gotta imagine it struggles a bit to handle the weight of the GX680 and that's contributing to the camera shake as much or more than you pressing the shutter button.

    • @linusandhiscamera
      @linusandhiscamera  21 день назад +1

  • @lucarondon

    These are beautiful portraits. I also have it and I use it for architecture instead of a 4x5 Toyo. The Fuji has a mirror lockup function as well as a remote trigger that could have helped you in this shoot. Also, it’s possible that your tripod wasnt sturdy enough for this kind of weight, especially with the center column raised. I had to replace my tripod head for a sturdier one from arca Swiss. Once again great work, I love your videos!

    I've been waiting for this video since you said you'd been trying one. To help with the focus, there is a movable magnifying loupe that can help you nail the critical focus on different parts of the frame. Not as good as putting a loupe directly on the ground glass, but would be better than the built-in loupe of the WLF.
    I'm a little surprised that you don't use mirror lockup when shooting on a tripod. A model might be confused by the sound of the mirror no longer being the audible cue for the exposure, but your countdown should help.

    Another great video, man. Don't blame you for reaching for the Pentax. IDK about that Gx680. I feel like someone would be much better off just shooting a 4x5 to do all the things that camera does. Just my two cents. Some cool shots though. Anyone who's really set on doing tilt-shift on medium format, should get an RZ67, the somewhat rare tilt-shift attachment and one of the two short barrel lenses made for it. I have one and a 180mm SB lens. It's pretty rad.

    The 680iii sure has some drawbacks - but the size ain’t it!!
    It’s almost akin to a 4x5 technical camera in capability, but the smaller frame means much faster exposures, and also 120 film so < $$$$$$
    AND SLR
    pity it’s soooo electronic.
    I gotta say; using swing/tilt+twins is cheating for THE MAN who has single handedly made double exposures into a 21C artform 😂🤭😂
