Rodolfo Gonzalez is almost certainly guilty of the *two (2)* murders that he was accused/convicted of committing. The third man, who knew Gonzalez as a friend, survived the attack and identified him as the perpetrator.
Rich your work is always excellent.. your channel is far superior to any other channel on RUclips.. it adds to my day every time you do an upload.. keep punching Rich 👊
It's matches like Gato vs Ganigan that boxing appreciates yet misses and what mma now enjoys....bring matches like these back and lets enjoy watching/paying for boxing again. 👊👊
That Gonzalez/Ganigan fight was awesome! And for Gato to come back and fight so well after that horrendous car accident is astounding. There were so many great warriors in the 70s and 80s. It seemed like every week there was an exceptional match up and I was right there in front of the TV to witness it. You bring back such incredible boxing for us Rich and it is GREATLY appreciated!
Imagine the career Gonzalez could've had if he'd never had that car accident. There's just no way such a body breaking trauma doesn't take it's toll on one's physical attributes.
Gonzales was surprisingly charismatic and natural in front of the camera in Buscando de Campeon. Should have never lost to Claude Noel, survived that car wreck or came back to beat Arredando and get multiple title shots. Wish his story had a happier ending. Thanks for this one, Rich!
Indeed, the perfect name not just for the 9 Lives, but also due to how he really did have some cat-like ways of moving about and throwing some punches in the ring, as the trainer had originally dubbed him with the nickname in honor of, and for his irresistible urges to chase birds up into trees, also the nature in which automotive traffic was his most dangerous n deadly enemy, and lastly his ability to seemlessly transition to a feral lifestyle of alleys and alcoves when a human home just wasn't where his heart was anymore. Our fierce fighting favorite Gato Gonzalez, aka El Rodolfo, truly did have the spirit of a cat as part of his soul.
Good job for the Rodolfo Gato Gonzalez who fought in the 1980s and thanks for the confusion between him and the original Rodolfo "El Gato" Gonzalez who was the WBC Lightweight Champion in the 1970s in the same era where Roberto Duran dominated that division before he moved up in weight. Keep it up.
An unbelievable story Rich, I can’t say I remember him in the UK. Great work again from the best for boxing history, nice one Rich. Would like to see you do a documentary on a favourite Mexican boxer of mine called Marcos Villasana, he had to be one of the toughest boxers I’ve ever seen, he held the WBC belt for a while at Featherweight in the 80s, No doubt you remember him Rich. 🥊
Before watching this video i seen the old man video who taught prisioners how to box the one you showed at the end, and i also saw the movie, but never knew it was gato until now wow.
That ending though, seems like a guy one could root for and I would, even considering his self-destructive behavior, if not for the fact that he constantly put others in danger with his drunk driving, that disregard really speaks about his character and tips the balance against him regarding his claims of innocence (with just the scant details about the case the video provides to go about the matter).
Yet another human being that our sport/profession couldn't help straighten out, he doomed many of his opponents and did much damage seemingly outside the ring! Boxing history always mirrors society!!! Lucky for us we have you Rich, to present living history for us to feast on! Thank you! RIP Gato!!!
I remember seeing his name in Boxing magazines as a kid but I never got to get into his career!! But was an excellent fighter judging by the video. Thanks for the video 🥊
Wow! What a life! I thought he should have gotten the stoppage against Ganigan. That ref's count!? 1 and...2 and.....3 and. He was out of it and Gato probably stops then and there. Had extra time to clear his head with that count!
@@MosesCampos-pr6ef No worries, Moses. I don't have a Patreon but I appreciate the thought. The channel is monetized and the money from Adsense is enough for me to keep producing these videos for now.
Only Rich could capture this spectacular story inside/outside the ring. I fondly remember anticipating network television bouts. There is still a lot of boxing on subscription services but when the moronic sanctioning bodies took control of the business, the sport lost most of its fan base and never recovered. Now networks wouldn't touch boxing with a 10' pole and that's a shame.
Rich, my Dad and I watched Gato vs Arredondo back in '85. We saw it again tonight, thanks to you. THANK YOU
My pleasure, Carlos. That was a good fight I had forgotten about myself.

Sure thing, Mark.
Seen him fight several times at the Olympic Auditorium in Loa Angeles
I remember watching fights on Friday from the Olympic, in NY. Loved that Jim Healy announcer.

Yes, I remember Villasana. Kept trying and trying until he finally got that belt. I'll add him in, good choice.
Yet another enthralling and thoroughly enjoyable production Rich - thank you !
Keep going and going Sir.

Thank you
My pleasure, KidGavilan.
Brilliant video Rich thank you 🙌
My pleasure, Andy.
He ended the unbeaten run of hotshot Randy Shields at the Olympic.
Your thinking of Ronnie shields and gato lost that fight. Gato never fought randy shields. You can look it up.
Ah, that was Vicente Mijares.
Those murders at the end...woww
I remember seeing his name in Boxing magazines as a kid but I never got to get into his career!! But was an excellent fighter judging by the video. Thanks for the video 🥊
My plesure, MPR.
i remember being shocked when the heavily favored Gato lost a wide decision to Claude Noel
Great channel!! Thanks Rich

Rene was always Chinny but Nevertheless a good win for Gato
