Why does the pedal voice sound so high?

Because as it is written at the beginning of the score, the pedal must play with a 4-foot register, which is made up of halved pipes that play an octave higher.
If the pedal played as written, it would cause harmony errors, because the foundation of the chords would change compared to the part of the left hand, which supports the harmony.
This way of moving the upper part of the chant in the pedal is widely used in organ literature.
      Thanks for listening.
