I bought my leather jacket from the H-D dealership in 1980, before the price explosion. Was only $175.00, same style now is almost $500.00. I have taken good care of it over the years, but I have had to repair the inside of the collar because of years of wearing it. Still fits great and it has been everywhere with me.

My wife bought me a new leather about 20 years ago I wore it until 14 years ago when I lost a lot of weight and it's now to big for me. She said she's not buying me another one. So I keep my eyes open at the second hand stores. I still got the leather coat I've had for at least 30 some years I bought it used at a flee market for 35 dollars. My wife paid like nearly 500 dollars for the one she bought me and it still looks almost as nice today as it was when she bought it for me... I will wear leather till I leave this old world...

Leather jacket and leather chaps saved my a$$ when I hit a deer at 50 mph. I like the feel and nothing beats the smell of leather. Safe riding.

My first leather jacket was from Berman Buckskin, founded in 1899, as Berman Brothers Fur, Wool and Hides founded by David, Ephraim and Alexander Berman, Purchased in 1979 at Crossroad's mall in St' Cloud MN. I believe the price was $135.00. I basically wore it out. Rotten threads and very cracked leather. Like Itchy I had to get a replacement due my girth. Don't laugh to hard. If you live long enough you'll get there too.

Still have a leather jacket that I can't even get into anymore. What I wear in cool weather is a classic leather jacket and chaps I've had for close to 40 years now, they still fit. During the summer months I wear a mesh top that has armor in the shoulders and elbows and a under the pants mesh that has armor in the shins and knees. Of course there are always boots and gloves. Stay safe, Mark.

Yep. Heavy leather with removable liner pretty much every time I ride out of town. No patches. Usually alone, and I don't mind identifying as such. I have a leather bra on my tank, and the pocket lid gets my military insignia.
I'm just glad to have put some miles on my bike over the past few days.
    Itchy, thanks for posting. RHDF!!!

Living in Louisiana I am now wearing textile jackets with a liner, easier to pack and lighter. Still have my original leather jacket from the 70’s but of course doesn’t fit. Fox Creek leather made in the USA expensive but well worth it for the price and is the leather jackets I have been wearing for years. Still wear both, just depends on the time of year. Be safe

I always wear my leather. My local H-D shop only has made in Malaysia or Mexico and such. Not one made in America. I bought my last one at an outlet store, $800.00 and made in America. It's a very good coat and it doesn't smell like a wet dog when I get caught in the rain.

All my leather jackets and 1 pair of chaps are made by Milwaukee Motorcycle Clothing Co. I buy them through a western wear clothing outlet online called Sheplers. They have a section under Men's motorcycle coats ,boots and apparel...gloves, saddle bags etc....made in Americia and prices are very reasonable, quality is excellent. Leather is black or brown....never had a returnable.

I got a original leather jacket made by Langlitz it was probably made in the late 50s, found it in a second hand shop in Canada in the mid 70s,when I asked about where they got it they said some Hippies found it on the road in Mexico, probably fell of some unlucky bikers Bike, so I paid 20 bucks for it, its been rebuilt by Langliz, its now hanging in my garage in Mexico, with my denim vest, the jacket still fits but now its like putting on a suit of armor, ha it even has a side arm pocket, friend of mine lifted the jacket of the wall a while back, and said hey you got a gun in there? If that jacket could only talk, Langliz said they would display it in there museum, right now its happy in my museum but the salt air here is taking its toll,

Old School brother…. Leather jacket (still got the first bug I ever hit on my jacket… lol), leather cut, leather chaps, my old HD boots (same style boot, second pair/first pair I wore out)… have endured brutal all day rainstorms, blowing sand, 118 degree temps (sure it gets hot), and some 30 degree riding weather as well. Wouldn’t ride wearing anything else.

    Hay Mark,
Well it was 80 something here today in the St Louis area, a little too hot for this time of year.
I was thinking ( dangerous I know ) lol, but how about taking your old jacket off the bike and putting Vee’s on it back there, that way she’ll be with you always.
    Just an idea ????.

My best riding buddy has a leather jacket that's brown now. It is a super high quality jacket that doesn't fit anymore like you. But it's years of use when it fit him has turned it into the most beautiful brown with small accents of the black dye it was when he bought it. My cheap assed jacket of 30 years shows the cheap quality of Grey where it's aged. Mine still fits though. Jayman...

Hi Itchy retirement makes a guy grow out of his clothes. I grew out of my jacket and last summer I picked up a nice heavy one from a guy. When I hit the deer They carved it off me like a thanksgiving turkey. I bought another bike last fall. I also went to a guys house and bought his jacket for 80 bucks. It was like new and he said he paid $350 for it but sold his bike. I asked why he sold his bike. He said his wife worked at a Trauma Center and seen a guys brains. He had a small child in the middle of the living room so I think I know how that went. Today I put on that jacket and rode to the Hospice House to see my Brother and riding partner. I was there when he took his last breathe. Sadly Itchy he lost his year long battle with Cancer. We never got to take that last ride. They stopped his treatments and told him he had two weeks. I have had nine lives but he only had one. He had enough and just wanted it over.

I like my leather chaps but they can be hot when its in the 80-100 out on the road, I do have a leather jacket for when its cool out but when I use to ride till it stated snowing I have a waxed canvas duster that I still ware in the winter, but most the time I put on a levi jacket and carry a flannel shirt in the side bag and switch them out when riding, the weight thing I was dong water fasting till I got sick for a month going to be back on it soon after going outside and doing yard work and notice I need to loose about 50-60 lbs being 6.3 you can tell that need to push away from the table lol but the water fasting works great and it has some healing to it too I had lost 30lbs on it and felt great, I took out both bikes this weekend and plan on alot more this year if weather permits , be safe and ride safe

Mark, Leather yes, but it's not a heavy jacket. I have a sleeveless leather Vest instead. I also have a denim cut with some patches. A front zipper type long-sleeved hoodie is my favorite, now that I cut the hood off. Bargain at Walmart or BJ's I can't remember. Has an Indian head war bonnet patch on back, which is fitting since I ride a Vintage. My opinion about buying from the motorcycle dealer is in sync with yours. They're way too exorbitant in price. Generic/aftermarket clothing is fine with me. Took your advice and my Ride today, Monday 4/15, was 145 miles. Did I know my destination as I started out? No. I just thought of 3 friends who moved up North to N.H. about a dozen years ago so I put on my GPS & headed that way. I called a mile from their house & they said: "Come on over." I'm really fortunate because these friends are ok with me just dropping in. They're informal like me & comfortable with it. There were lots of riders out today. Must have passed at least 15 and another dozen, riding group or club, who had pulled in at a hiway gas station. If I remember right another 3 bikes passed me with the rider & his lady on pillion. I can say, I'm happy for them because I know they were having a great day. The pit stop I made as I just entered N'H. gave me a nice experience too and not unusual at all. A couple walking next to my bike stopped to admire it. When I got up to them I joked- "I don't charge people to look at my bike". Got a good laugh over that. We had an pleasant conversation for a few minits. That sort of thing lifts your spirits as we all know. Stop & smell the roses they say...... and along the way take time to chat with folks to help make their day as well. Thanx for your vid. AND Itchy, get Out There & Ride! We know what it does for us, even if the jacket doesn't fit like it used to. 😎.

Just ride with either my FXRG leather jacket or my leather vest on hot days. I bot the jacket back in 2003 for a long trip. I love it. Only thing I do for it is to use Doc Baily's leather conditioner on it every year. Keeps is looking good and water proof. As far as your weight, we're both about the same age, I'm 71. If you are walking 3 miles a day, you just need to cut out the carbs and add protein. And check out RUclips, there are a lot of great vidios on that. Couple months and you'll be back in your jacket comfortably and happy.

I outgrew my first leather jacket. I bought my second leather jacket about twenty yrs ago. Two yrs ago I bought a kevlar/nylon type jacket. It has a liner and it's much much lighter than my leather jacket. Now for the last two yrs my leather jacket just hangs in my closet. I wore chaps ages ago. When it get cold outI put on my rain gear. Much lighter than my leathers. I have a couple of leather vests and I wear those over my denim jacket. And have a denim vest I wear. My denim vest is full of patches of where I have been. I had leather boot way back in the day but now I wear canvas/leather military/hiking boots. They are lighter than the leather and dry out faster when they get wet. I am leaving tomorrow from central Ohio and riding to Georgia, North and South Carolina and Florida. It's gonna feel good doing another long trip. Glad Spring is finally here.

I've been wearing a leather since I started and I will always wear one, I don't care how warm it is....I don't wear these fruity lace up leather trousers or blue oyster bar chaps.... But as far as a jacket goes leather is the only way to go... I still wear my old school diamond padded jacket which I've worn since the 90s......you wanna lose weight? Quit bee and drink whisky r

Itchy dude leather jackets have always been cool and always will be period. If you don't wear a leather jacket you can't be cool it's that simple. What's not cool is a big guy in a teenie tiny little leather jacket. Get a new one asap just saying. I know I know they are pricey just do it and don't look back. Get one you can grow into not out of. You will be more comfortable and most of all you will be able to breathe. Please don't fool yourself and squeeze into that teenie tiny little leather jacket in public just being helpful no disrespect. You almost passed out putting it on and dam near fainted on video right before my eyes just saying.
